Hollies fans..there is a new DVD that will be available next month on Amazon. It is a must! Hubby (music writer/reviewer) and I received an advance copy and watched it about 2 weeks ago. It's fantastic. Crystal clear video and audio..amazing for the age of the footage. Check it out..I think it's up for pre-order right now. Includes current interviews with Graham, Allan, Tony and others..and a superb session of the recording of "On A Carousel" Totally recommend!
What seems to be missing on this and other versions on you tube is the little guitar in-fills after 'on a carousel', each time it is sung. Listen to the original recording.
My memory of this is it all happened very quickly. The film was shot, rushed up to Manchester, synced up, edited and transmitted all in a week - and without benefit of modern digital editing equipment or effects, just 16mm film and magnetic recording tape. As someone else has noticed, in the clip the Hollies are actually miming to their own recording.
Unless I'm greatly mistaken this footage of the Hollies comes from a "World in Action" documentary made by Granada Television in 1967. The reason I remember this is because I was the poor sap who synced up all the rushes! It's good, eh?
@martynjohnday Yes, 'tis! The "Reelin' in the Years" company is putting out a Hollies DVD soon as part of their British Invasion series, and from what I understand, the entire "World in Action" sequence will be included among the vintage goodies on it.
@martynjohnday that's awesome, and yeah, there's a video of a panel discussion about the hollies dvd where some producer or something talks about the camera work on this..
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll. Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll
