  • Junkman, So glad you advised us of the 5" counter-weight, which is to be used only with a 5" backing pad and how you have to change to the 6" counter-weight if you use a larger pad.The issue comes with the fact that Adam's backing plates now seem to be 5.875" which is surely close enough to 6", however, in your video, you can see that the screws that hold the counter-weight in place are of a special type. How do we change the counter-weight?

  • @UtzChips2009 You have to get the tool that fits those screws. However, the weight of the back plate has its factor in the equation and the new Adam's back plates are very light. They will work with that 5" counterweight with no problem.

You can find that tool at any parts place like Auto Zone or Pep Boys, however, I wouldn't change it if I were you.

  • @Junkman2000 Thank you sir! I asked U right after I e-mailed Adams customer support. Haven't heard from them.

  • @UtzChips2009 You will, and they will tell you that my video is old so just ignore it. :)

  • @Junkman2000 Well, it may be old, however, you still taught me that you can't use a smaller gauge extension cord. I have a yellow industrial extension cord, however, I'll bet it's slightly smaller than the one that comes with the 7424. U did save me there!

  • @UtzChips2009 In the material that comes with the PC, it clearly states what size and gauge cords you need to use with the PC. Very valuable information. A lot of people never read it.

  • so whats the deal with the tag on the towel?? why cant you use it?

  • @gtastuntcrew302 Because it says "Made in China", which is where the worst microfiber on the planet is manufactured. That crap will scratch your paint to hell and back. It is no where near the same league as the microfiber that I use.

  • Hey, JM, i've been watching some of your videos and your very informative yet entertaining. Was just curious on this gauge thing, you were talking about. I live in Australia. If i just use a normal adapter at the end so i can plug it into the socket, would you know if it will be oright? Thanks in advance

  • @PhilKusanagi Thanks for watching. The gauge does not plug into an outlet. It is battery powered and hand held. It fits in the palm of your hand.

  • You are easily the best detailer I've come across on youtube. Thanks for the awesome videos.

  • @internetsftw That's one heck of a compliment my friend, considering that I am only a peon in the detailing game compared to some of the guys on here! Thanks for watching! :)

  • @Junkman2000 Sorry Junkman, but the gig is up!! Saw your special "Junkman's" sale at Adams. You're being compensated in some way.

  • @UtzChips2009 Dude, welcome to the present. That kit has been on there for over 2 years. I travel the states representing Adam's at numerous car shows and detailing events. You just now figuring this out? I think you're the only one who doesn't realize that!

  • @Junkman2000 I'm just now moving into the present. You see, I've never paid more than 3k for a car & just ran them thru the carwash, but my wife bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee & expects me to keep it up. By the way, I fully enjoyed your trip around the racetrack with the young lady ONLY because of your narration during the whole deal. I had to show the vid to my wife, who also enjoyed it. My wife (and I) says KUDOS on supporting Breast Cancer Research!!

  • @UtzChips2009 Tell your wife the honor is mine. As we say, anything to save the ta-ta's!

As for the cost of the supplies to properly take care of your ride, only you can justify that. I just put out the information. If you want to do it right, the cost is what it is. You see what my paint looks like, you ain't gonna get that look while shopping at Auto Zone. I can only open the door, but it is you who has to walk through it.

  • That MF towel that comes with it, would be good for the interior.

  • Thank you Junkman, I just received my PC 7424 XP, opened everything to take a look. After watching this video I wanted to attach the backing plate, the washer had fallen out of the bag, I emptied everything from the box it shipped in, no joy. Finally I looked inside some good micro fibre towels, and it was inside the folds. Thank you again

  • @SlicerBry Good deal.

  • What kind of screwdriver tip is needed to get those screws out of the counterweight?

  • @rmcrom I think those are torx bits. I would have to go look to make sure and it's really cold outside!

  • CONTACT ME I HAVE NEW PRODUCT FOR BLACK CARS THEY LOOK WET HOW CAN WE COMMUNICATE WITHOUT YOU TUBE .I WILL SEND YOU A SAMLPE OF MY PRODUCT .....KING OF KLEEN AKA TONY

  • @BUDDIESII Contact me at Adam's Forums under the user name of Junkman2008.

  • OK, i got all my info from the adam;s forums, sorry for being a royal pain in the ass. I'm i still aloud to watch your videos lol.

  • @MrJayRSX

That would be the best place for you to watch these videos. The questions you are asking have already been asked by someone else.

  • @Junkman2000

It came with the 5" hd backing pad, and all 5.5" pads, + a 6.5" foamed wool pad.

Also where do you buy your counter weights from, because i checked adam's and autogeek with no luck, unkess i"m blind.

Also, my local acura dealer gave a me a few 7" pads, he gave me a green a blue and a wool, are these oads to big for the pc7424xp, or are this still ok to use assuming i ge a 7" backing plate and counter weight.

  • @MrJayRSX

You've got to read the question that I'm asking you. Which counter-weight came with your polisher?

The counter-weights are not sold by detailing companies, they are sold by the companies that sell the PC. Also, you should stick with the size pads that Adam's sells or smaller. A bigger pad is not going to do anything on the PC but slow it down. It is not that powerful of a polisher to begin with and the 5.5" pads are ideal for that machine.

  • @MrJayRSX

Also, the wool pads that you have can mess up your paint big time if you are new to this. I have never had to use a wool pad and I suggest you do the same. Instead of trying to create confusion within yourself, why not just do what you see me do in the videos? That is a template that has been proven to work and will yield you some positive results. You need to visit the thread where these videos are posted at Adam's forums for more clarity.

  • @Junkman2000

Sorry, dont know why that reposted twice, but i forgot to mention the kit came with all 5.5" pads except that wool pad, with a use 5" pad only counter weight, yea i'll check out adam's............so i have to go somewhere that sells the pc, and order a counter weight through them for a 5.5' pad, or is there no 1/2 sizes?

  • @MrJayRSX

Okay, you still haven't answered my question! WHAT COUNTER-WEIGHT CAME WITH YOUR POLISHER???

  • @junkmass2000

Hey junkman, so i bought a pc/menzerna kit, it came with a 5" backing plate, but 5.5 ccs pads, is this going to be an issue with the counter weight? Oh and it came with a 6'' foamed wool pad.

  • @MrJayRSX What counter-weight did it come with?

  • Wooooow thanks for the gauge thing

  • dang just bought my pc and with a 5 inch ccs cacking plate but a 6 insch pad

  • @TheLucky796

That may be correct. I know that the 5" backing plate that AutoGeek sells works best with the 5.5" Lake Country pads, and the 6" backing plate works best with the 6.5" Lake Country pads. I'm not familiar enough with the CCS pads to say but you are probably okay, especially if they came as a kit.

  • @Junkman2000 ok thanks man your videos are great

  • Forgot to tell you that I've taken your advice on the proper extension cord and I bought a 14-gauge 16 feet outdoor cord from the hardware store. ;)

By the way, did you manage to find out what type of screwdriver it takes to remove and change the counterweight ?

  • @nova9403

I did, but I can't remember the size off the top of my head. It's a star driver though.

  • @nova9403

    Yes.

  • @Junkman2000 Thanks! Btw, I like your sense of humour in all of your videos. Much more fun to learn that way! :)

  • @nova9403

Gotta keep it fun or I won't do it!

  • @Junkman2000 Sorry about my triple post. I'm still not use to the new Youtube layout. Grrr...

  • @nova9403

No problem. They really screwed this up with new format. It sucks.

  • I have a Lake Country backplate that already has the washer on it (Exactly like the Adam's as shown in the video at 2:52). Do I still need to install the supplied washer that came with my 7424XP?

  • Junkman =) Do thus PC 7424XP has a speed controller like what the flex have? and which is better, advisable, convenient and safe to use for a beginner? Thanks! I really love your videos!

  • @mijek

Yes, the PC is variable speed controlled like the Flex. As far as which is best for the novice user, the PC is hands down. The PC has interchangeable back plates which allows you multiple size pads to choose from. The Flex has only one back plate and it is not interchangeable. The PC is forgiving if your technique is wrong. THE FLEX IS NOT. You WILL screw up your paint with it. The Flex has forced rotation which will burn paint right off the edge of your car.

    Get a PC, period.

  • @Junkman2000 Thanks man I really appreciate it! 2 thumbs Up=)

  • how come you have to throw away the towel that has the tag?

  • @whatismynamedude

Because that made in China crap towel will scratch your paint to hell and back. If you ever use it on some flawless paint, you will see it first hand. Most folk's paint is so jacked up that they can't see the damage that they are creating for the damage they already have.

I use those towels to check my oil.

  • Man, I love your videos and your sense of humor! 0:57 Trash! Love it!

  • @badderthanyou

I'm just silly like that. :)

  • thanks for all the info, getting ready to use my PC and I am following all your videos.

  • @datamaxcorp

Be sure and check out my "slow cut" and "from clay to wax" video series that I have posted on Adam's Forums. Those videos will also assist you in using the PC-7424. Remember, the amount of pressure & product you use is key. Too much product or too much pressure will destroy the pads. Use 9-15 pounds of pressure at a setting of 5 (no higher and no lower unless you are applying wax, then use a setting of 3).

If you have any questions, look me up at Adam's Forums. I'm Junkman2008.

  • Is the Adams 5 7/8" setup for the 5 inch PC or the 6?

  • If I understand what you are trying to ask, you can use the Adam's back plate with either the 5" or 6" counter-weight. It will work with both.

  • Fantastic. I cracked a smile at the begining ;)

Your series has been very informative, especially wetsanding. learned a few tips i didnt know !!

  • Thanks for watching!

  • I just bought the ultimate detailing machine and Sonus polishing system and the 7424 comes with a 5 inch counterweight and a 5 inch velcro backing plate. it also has several different pads with different cutting/polishing properties. These are the Sonus SFX pads and are 6" pads. There is no cutout on the back side of the pad for the backing plate to fit inside. The entire back of the pads are velcro. This is a highly recommended setup, but should I use these pads or not, it was sold as a kit???

  • I'm not familiar with your setup but the pads sound similar to the Lake Country pads. You should have no problem using them although I do not have a clue what your results will be like with that product.

    Good luck!

  • Yes, i have owned a set of SFX pads, might take a little longer to get them smack bang in the middle than others would. The SFX pads were actually one of the best pad sets ive used, under 3M which are my personal favorite. I never used the sonus polishes however, only the Menzerna, 3M, Meguairs and the odd other.

  • My pc (7424)did have a 6" counterweight out the box,im going to used adam's pads,that i have to buy a 5"counterweigth???

  • No, the 6" counter-weight will work fine. The other way around may see some vibration at the highest speed setting but normally, you never work at a setting of 6.

  • I found a PC 7424XP for $109. It comes with a 5" counter weight. I want to get the Adams 7.5" Gen2 pads. Will this work? Or will I need a 7.5" counter weight?

  • If you buy the 6" counter-weight, you will be fine. It mainly affects you at the highest setting in that you will have some noticeable vibration at that speed. There is no such thing as a 7.5" counter-weight.

  • You 'da man Junkman !

Sure wish I had seen this video early yesterday cus I ordered a PC 7424XP & Pad Kit last night. The pad kit comes with a 5" Hook & Loop backing plate, and several 6.5" Lake Country Pads....and I also ordered an extra $50 worth of extra 6.5" pads!

Had me scratching my head about that? But if you read the info, they say a 5" backing plate is recommended for 6.5" pads in order to provide a generous margin of error. Being that I'm a novice, that may be a good thing?

  • Who is the "they" who told you that? The 5" backing plate is perfect for the Adam's pads because the pads are designed to fit that plate. The 6.5" pads by Lake Country are too big for that plate and you should use the 6" backing plate. The reason is because the 5" backing plate will allow too much flexing of the edge of the 6.5" Lake Country pads.

  • No problem though, you can always order a 6" backing plate for your PC. You can also order the Adam's pads which will fit your 5" backing plate better. You can never have too many pads as far as I'm concerned, especially if you do a lot of paint correcting.

To bad you didn't check with me first. I could have gotten you that polisher for $109 and 10% off your Adam's purchase by using the coupon code "Junkman"!

  • Thanks for the videos Junkman. I found them very informative. I just bought a PC from autogeek with Lake Country Pads. I have some meguiars products that I'm going to try on my black 300, but have heard good things about Adams products.

  • Meguiar's has a bunch of different products that all do different things. I hope you have the rights ones and use them correctly. The Adam's product line is a lot easier to figure out. Kind of hard to go wrong.

  • Soo many people don't check their extension cables... great tip! - Jason

  • True, and this is why guys are always posting, "Why is my PC so hot? I can't even hold on to it!"

    Now you know!

  • The problem is, once you get good with a rotary, you get spoiled by it.

Oh, as for that microfiber towel you showed..works great on the carpets :-)

  • Probably so. I will most likely never go to a rotary as I don't do this for a living. I enjoy the time I spend rubbing on my car and the safety net of the orbital is a nice perk. Most of the guys and gals I make these videos for are novice users of this kind of equipment and have no need or desire to step up to a rotary. I don't think using a rotary is something you can learn to do by watching a video.

  • Rotary isn't as hard to learn as its made out to be. But I wouldn't do my first rotary on a show car.

  • I agree.

  • You can use the 6" pads without an issue with that counterweight.

  • Although you say that and may have had success when doing so yourself, I don't want people to try doing so since the manufacturer has specifically designed a counter-weight for 6 inch pads. Now if one of DeWalt's engineers post that information on this video, I'll do it myself.

Until then, I have to think that they came out with a 6" counter-weight for a reason and thus, I'm going to keep pushing the information as stated in my video.

  • From participating in the Meguiars, Autogeek and Autopia forums, they all tell me that those counterweights only apply to using it as a sander. I switched to a rotary a while ago and no longer use mine. Not sure how long since you did these videos (you did the other side or not), but it would be cool too see you do the other side in a series using the Flex

  • I do have some videos posted using the Flex. I prefer it now as I am more familiar with using polishers now and it is more effective with its forced rotation.

As for using the PC as a sander, I think they got their scoop wrong. The PC-7335 and 7336 are orbital sanders. The PC-7424 is a orbital polisher.

  • Although people do mix them up and use the wrong tool for the wrong application, all 3 have an exact purpose. I said DeWalt before but it is Delta that owns Porter-Cable now and I'm standing behind their recommendation until one of their representatives tells me differently. I don't want to take a chance at sending someone down the wrong path. Using their recommendations is the safe way to go.
