I tasted the Soup as a kid. I will oppose the making and serving of that soup.
Shark fin soup is a dish in Chinese wedding & formal banquet. It is saturated with flavor of ham, chicken and crab. It is famous for its rich taste. Shark fin tastes like nothing in the soup, and no one suggested the nutritional value of it.
I guess noodle would disintegrate after prolonged period of cooking while shark fin won't. It is simply a "sorbent" to carry the flavor.
It's crazy how they serve it in restaurants and talk about it with a smile. Then as soon as you mention it in public they get offended. Is it like drugs to them. Legal to sell in the country, but wrong to talk about? I don't get it. Fucking sick!

on a more serious note, their culture is different. The people see animals just like we see a plant, you can cut it and eat it whenever you want, whichever animal it is. We have this strange morality that we can kill cows and chickens, but not some other species.
Sharks however, are wildlife. Hunting on them should be strongly regulated.

@joe80dmanizanerd I couldnt agree more. If only we humans could farm sharks, same as chickens, cows, ducks, porks, etc, etc, etc. Sharks are wildlife as u said. On the other hand, theres the money problem. I mean, maybe for a pound of fins a fisherman get 100 USD, and amount he will never get to see otherwise :/.
