  • Great!

  • @9lontoonieful1 Thank you!

  • Hi, Annie and Mac! I love your music. I often play along with my harmonica and guitar and you have brought a tremendous amount of joy to my late evening hours. With this tune, you have simply outdone yourself. This has got to be my favorite. I have heard it played faster at times but this speed, this rhythm - this is magical! Brilliant! (Dave in Halifax, NS)

  • @davidchiasson1952 What kind and thoughtful comments - thanks for all Dave!

  • I love this. Doesn't half sound great as a "team " with the guitar accomp! Give myself a month b4 I post my version! Ha! Both very talented.

  • Hey Mac--what tuning are you in for Nancy? Lovely tune and fine playing, as always!

  • @1955mrjim Thank you! Nancy is in double C tuning capoed up to D (aDADE)

  • wonderful music.

  • From time to time folks would ask me who I wanted to play like. I thought that was just the stupidest question of all time; I wanted to find my own way. Lately I just want to play like Mac. You have such a very nice touch. Thanks all your tunes.

  • @arthurj2520 You honor me indeed - thank you for your kind words! Your own way will always trump but it's nice to know that perhaps you may have been an influence to someone along their way.

  • Hi,

Hope you guys are still playing. Long time since we last spoke.

    Mike

  • Much thanks for commenting!!

  • beautiful playing! man I love the banjo x

  • I keep coming back to this tune. Definitely my favourite. I regularly have a go at it but I'm nowhere near having learned it yet. Is it in standard G tuning capoed at the 3rd?

  • Hello Professor! It's in double C tuning capoed at the 2nd making it a D tune. My favorite too! Really enjoy your blog. All the best,

    Mac

  • Beautiful playing.

I am having a little trouble learning the B part. Any chance you are aware of any tab floating around the net? I unfortunately don't have copy of Ken Perlman's book with this tune in it

  • Great.

  • Thank you for commenting!!

  • If you check out Chris Ormston's "Clough Family" on this site you can hear (after the slow air) how the piece would have sounded originally as it was written for the Northumbrian pipes. I'm not taking anything away from the way this is played as I like them both.

    Mike

  • Oh and there are two parts missing!

  • I can see the look on Tom Clough's face now. "It divvent soond oot like!" he would say. But I like it. No I really like it.

  • hfpitman did you ever hear or hear of the song sugar&the gord?

  • Yes. Part of it is a little bit like Turkey in the Straw. Wade Mainer does a nice version with vocals.

  • Thank you for the joy and happiness your music has given me.

    God Bless

  • Thanks again for your comments!!

  • Thank you for recording this. I've learned it from listening to this video, and I've been playing it constantly on my banjo. Check out "Fair Morning Hornpipe" on Adam Hurt's 'Insight' CD. I'm pretty sure it's the same tune.

  • Thanks for the comments!! I'll be looking for Adam Hurt's CD.

  • Mac, would you mind saying which state that wonderful country twang of yours is from please?- English fan.

  • That twang is from the Shenandoah Valley in NW Virginia - thank you for askin'

  • My daughter is home from college - just introduced you to her - she loves you too -real sweet. You don't mind being sweet?

  • Heck no. What's better than sweet!!

  • Really like the triplets in this. Very light touch.

  • Thank you!! Those triplets never seem to get easy - I fight for every one!

  • I've never heard this song before, but I really like it.

  • Thank you for the comments. "Nancy" has always been a favorite of ours.
