I still have to wonder if Dickie had something to do with the other Red Bird break-in from that era. It's called, "Election Year `64". The artist is just listed as The Cast, one of whom went on to play Bosley on "Charie's Angels" 10 years later. Another year or so later, Dickie made a break-in called, "Charlie's Devils".
Only know of one version of Ben Crazy. On the back side of the "Ben Crazy" version I had was a recording that sounded like a 45 played back at 78 speed. Can't do that with cds. Some songs sampled were Old Rivers, Mashed Potato Time, Shout, Shout Knock Yourself Out, P.T. 109 among others. "Santa and the Satellite" is only Christmas entry of his I know. I would like to hear all versions of those two songs now that I know they exist. Thanks early if you decide to post everything!!!
The 1st version of "Ben Crazy" was on JMD records. It's almost the exact same recording and it takes a pretty good ear to catch the difference, but, there's a bit where someone screams when the Dr. is about to operate. On JMD, you hear Dickie screeching in a high voice; on the Diamond version, it sounds like a bunch of girls screaming at a rock concert. "Flip Side" can be played normally at 33.
Okay, my mistake, he only did 2 Christmas break-ins. The other was, "Santa & The Touchables".
I have been looking for a recording of this since the copy I had broke around 15 years ago. I loved it then and it's still great now. Thanks for posting it.
I had wondered about what that song was for 12 years, then in 1978, while I was taking a night college course on pop culture, the teacher played "Juanita Banana" for us. I immediately recognized it from this record. I'll have to see if it's on YouTube.
In fact, the reason the teacher played it for us was because it was part of a group of pop songs he played for us because they were from classical works.
That would be interesting to hear, although I probably wouldn't know all of the songs. And if there are still break-in records being done today, with recent hits, I wouldn't know ANY of them!
Well, I have NO idea how to post things here, but if I can have your e-mail addy I'll send you an MP3 of it and a label scan. Any other break-ins you want? Just let me know. It might be best, if you want a lot of them, to just have me make CD's of the ones you want. I have at least 700 of them, but there's still more that I need to get them all. Frank Merrill is the biggest break-in collector in the world and even HE doesn't have a copy of it but claims it's his "holy grail".
I did one in `96 on the O. J. Simpson thing, my neighbor did 4 of them on that topic and, a few years later, did 2 of Bill Clinton's sex scandal. However, neither of us used very much (if ANY) modern music.
I'm still finding new break-ins on YouTube. I just picked up the newest one a few days ago, and Whimsical Will has been doing break-ins of modern movies for the past 20 years.
Dickie's son, Jon, made 3 break-ins using modern music in the late `90's.
thank-you teeder03 for posting this record,I haven't heard this record for over thirty years, the 45 I had snapped in two pieces when I was about 10 years old and I couldn't find one since,I recall that the flip side was a sketch called '' suspense '' but anyway thanks again
Hey, you're very welcome marjstan2. That is one of my favorite 45 RPM's in my collection. I plan on uploading the flip-side very soon, so keep an eye out for it (by the way it was "suspense"). Thanks for the comment.
It also went by various other names on backs of lots of other Dickie records. It was also called, "Lock Up", "Mystery", "The Mystery (In Slow Motion)" and as few other names I've forgotten.
On Senate Hearing it was called "Lock Up", on Touchables and Attack Of The Z-Monster, it was called, "Mystery", and on Banana Boat (which was the first appearence of it) it was called, "The Mystery (In Slow Motion)" There's another one just like it called, "The End", on one of his Rainy Wednesday singles.
I'm assuming that's another Dickie Goodman track? If it is I haven't found it on vinyl yet. If I ever do find it I'll be sure to upload it on here. Thanks for rating.
Yes. I have the original single but it's scratchy, but is a "classic". Actually, I think I'll give it a spin and upload it myself tonight. I'll send you the link.
Doesn't anyone have "The Cha Cha Lesson" from 1961? :(

Which Christmas effort? He did at least 3. I have both versions of "Ben Crazy".

What song is the "yelling grandmother" from?
txpipedad 2 years ago
That bit is from "Juanita Banana" by The Peels. The tune she sings is based on an actual opera aria "Caro Nome" from Giusseppe Verdi's "Rigoletto."

Thank you so much!!

Even better, before it was Juanita Banana, that tune was part of an aria in the opera Rigoletto.

Why would you say it's rare? It's pretty easy to come by.

Thanks so much for posting this record! Cute and corny in a fun way -- all those snippets of popular records.

Ah! But the first break-in made was back in the early `50's!
RedVynil 2 years ago
Yes, I eventually became aware of the earlier ones. But this was still the first one I ever heard.
rslitman 2 years ago
What I meant was that the first one was done in `50 or `51. Buchanan & Goodman didn't do "Flying Saucer" until July 25, `56.

Hey teeder03. I have the 45rpm 0f Dickie Goodman's "THE TOUCHABLES." Its on MARK-X Record Co. label with "MARTIAN
MELODY" on the flip side. It's not in A sleeve so its in rough shape. Still working on getting a turntable to play it on.
I think the only other song I have on the Red Bird Label is "NEW YORK'S A LONELY TOWN" by the Trade Winds.
