@jabberwocky8025 you're right. the internet says its and old irish drinking song with "origins shrouded in mystery". there are two versions. in the more upbeat version the lyrics are -"ill make you a gallon for a ten shilling bill" instead of "if whiskey dont kill me then i dint know what will". one of those songs with no artist like "house of the rising sun". a true song of the people. almost adds authenticity.

This is an interesting version of this old classic. To me though, the very best version of this tune bar none is Uncle Tupelo's off of their March 16-20, 1992 album. If you haven't heard it, check it out, the entire album is as classic as they come!

they were right to use dylan's actual version in the movie. i don't see why they'd use a cover of dylan covering an old folk song.

Yup, they usually play Bob's versions in the film but they created this whole cover album for some purpose. I think they recorded most of them before the film was complete.
