  • Happy New Year Neil.

  • i saw him, when i was 17 jears old,,, omg, still love this song from the bottem of my heart,, keep it going MATE:-)

  • By learning to play Neil Diamond songs, I learned to really play guitar. Love this!

  • I saw Mr. Diamond on Jay Leno the other night. He sang this very song. I do believe he lost a lot of his voice. Oh well, it happens to the best of us. Keep on singing, Neil. Signed, *The Diamond Kid*

  • Greatness.

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • STILL IT GIVES ME THE CREEPS!!!

    SO FREAKIN FINE!!!.....

  • Neil does a great time, but I think johnny cash did it with more pain in his voice,

  • In my opinion this is the best version.

  • Oh it is sexy Neil Diamond. Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my keyboard. Oh, he was and is so fine.

  • Nicely understated version of an all time classic.

  • I stumbled across this song recently. I was looking for Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon original on Vinyl and there was a live version of Solitary Man on an LP I picked up from a car boot sale. Loved it immediately- it oozed darkness and depth, I listened in awe as it crackled from my speakers. Only difference is, the version I have doesn't have daft trumpets in the background.

  • jew pothead

    lov him

  • Even after so many years, I am not tired of listening to this song. What a masterpiece !

    Pallybanker

  • All you "Jims" out there give me a Hells Yah! Keep your woman happy or she's gonna stray right into my arms!

  • One of the greatest singer ever.

  • This song holds true even more so now, than in the time it was written. Song for all the singles out there. Addicting song.

  • 너무 좋아요 살랑해 ~~

  • A class act.Probably the greatest singer and song writer of our time.

  • This isn't his first hit knucklehead

  • Luv this video. What happened to the girl in the video? Did she run away when she found out you were a wierdo who wore trecky gear and thought u were cool in a batman suit, not to mention the imaginary friend. Hope it worked out????

  • @rkaehler1 what an uninspired comment....

  • Neil Diamond has so many great songs that it's hard to pick a favorite. If I had to, this would be it. I was in high school and on a date with a girl named Sue the first time I heard this. Ahh, the memories!

  • Being that I'm introverted, this would be the theme song for anyone who's introverted. I'm just saying.

  • @kja427 equality does us justice

  • PUH-LEASE! Neil Diamond is a shoe in.... Why was it 2011? Because the R&R hall of fame is slow on the uptake.... That's why....

    MR.BILL-HARDCORE XXX

  • Folks, be real... The R&R hall of fame is as crooked and biased as the Mississippi river.... What do you all really expect from them S.O.B.'s out in Cleveland???

    MR.BILL-HARDCORE XXX

  • I think this BBC concert put Neil on the path to polished concert performer and superstar.

  • Why did it take so so so long for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to Honor this incredible performer??? They deserve the appellation "Shameful Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" for delaying so long. Shame on you.

  • Wow, that is one of the most subtle, yet honestly emotional performances i have ever seen. Wow. The pain in his eyes, reaching out, is.....whoa.

  • Comment removed

  • Neil sounded great at this BBC Concert and looked great too. Pity can't get a full copy of it. I am going to see him in Glasgow in July - can't wait.

  • He was , at his very best here, both in voice and looks. Pity can't get a copy of BBC Concert. I have rediscovered him in You Tube Going to his concert at Hampden, Glasgow in July. Can't wait.

  • le cose belle......se vorrai....se vuoi e la memoria ti aiuta....se non lo spirito.Anche se ti avranno tagliato...le ali.

  • Solitary except for the groupies. Maybe that's why he's solitary?

  • FINALLY HE'S IN ROCK HALL OF FAME.

  • @BRANDODENIROPACINO

Yes, that was some kind of an insult ! What took them so long to honour him !

    Besides weird Alice Cooper !

He should have been honoured a long time ago, maybe in the 80's or the 90's. It would have been shocking if Justin Bieber got there first !

  • Oh, he had it back then. Afterward it got too schmaltzy for me.

  • Neil was "The Man"

  • I know he has a loyal following but, going to this video as a lark I am seriously impressed by the sensitivity of his performance. Rarely do guys sing with this kind of quiet power. This guy is seriously underrated - but he seems like a quiet guy. His career probably worked for him.

  • Word round the campfire is he was and is 420 friendly. It looks like the word may be true.

  • Wow-this was so goooood

Thank you for putting it here for us to watch :)

  • i think neil is very high in this video

  • When he was good.

  • @Jed077 Agreed!

  • Klasse Stimme

  • Awsome song...great voice

  • I just got my tickets !!!!! I am gonne see him love june 4 in Antwerp!!!!! I am so happy

  • @peggydams Have fun at the concert! Wishing it was me. :-)

  • Neil Diamond Fucking Rocks!!! I Do Not See What Is So Good About Neil Young... Neil Young??? What About NEIL DIAMOND??? Hey!! He Ain't A Burn-Out... And His Songs Are MORE "Rock And Roll" Compared To That Loser Neil Young.

  • all i have to say is "sue" is a dumbA.. and so is the other chick LOL!! =)

  • At the age of 14 I first heard this Song. By the time I graduated from High School this song was still one of my all time favorites. Outstanding voice and song.

  • Flawless in every way and so touching! keep it up:)

  • When I watch this video, I get weak in the knees and just wanna reach out and touch him. He just does that to me. And Yes, his eyes does hipnotize me! He's got these sexy eyes that just draws me to him. Not to mention how humble he is, and gorgeous. I can listen to his songs over n over again. Love you Neil!

  • @christmas0904

i sing a neil diamond tribute!

    mark

  • @MrSpringtime22 - Hi Mark, can you pls send it to me?

  • it has taken the rock hall of fame until 2010 to induct neil i cant wrap my brain around that one,one of the greatest singer songwriters and entertainers of a generation

  • this brings back memories from my childhood on the 405 freeway to see my grandma in Santa Monica. Love neil!!

  • Happy 70th birthday

  • Happy birthday neil!

  • i just found out that HIM didn't write solitary man . . .now i'm sad:-(

  • Man, Neil had it ALL! Supreme talent, stunning singer and songwriter, and to top it off--- he was a super handsome man! Actually he is still very handsome:)

  • Happy Birthday dear Neil, mazel and broche until 120.

    Paul

  • Happy Birthday dear Neil, mazel and broche until 120.

  • Ahh Neil--you used to make me swoon--that was before you became a buffoon and show man. Sorry.

  • that guy too.....sob

  • Haha this is awesome, ya see us metal heads know a damn good song when we hear it.

  • This is unbelieveable. So much emotion. And that is coming from someone who's stereo can usually be heard blasting out High On Fire, Slayer, Alice In Chains...

I respect real music, too, though, and without a doubt Neil Diamond was one of the best at the time this was recorded.

  • @hoochdini Yeah i'm with you on that man. I've only recently been getting into his stuff, i too would usually be listening to A.I.C, Pearl Jam, Soundgardens etc.. but he really does write great lyrics. Check out my channel if you get a chance i've started to put up some of my own songs. Let me know what you think.

  • ....Johnny cash version is better.

  • 33 years old and I love this old stuff !! You rock Neil !!

  • Even today Neil look sosooo good and sexy to me. Love his voice love his moves LOVE HIM. XX

  • Thank you so much Mr. Diamond :-)

  • Excellent singer. Live or recorded. These songs never get old. They are so special and my husband knows why. It's long past the time Neil Diamond should have been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame.

  • @2lovemusic7 he is IN!!!!! he got the call tow weeks ago- google it- neil is in along with tom waits,dr john, and alice cooper

  • Edgar ,unser Lied.war schön

  • HEAR THE WORDS,,,,NEIL HAS NOT CHANGED OVER THE MILES,,,A TRUE SOLITARY PTIBATE MAN,,,,VERY TRUE TO HIS CRAFT

  • Gold is forever!

  • @100samkakaful

Don't you mean "A Diamond is forever"? ;)

  • soo sexy.ND we all love you. xx

  • @Jed077 love will come your way

  • I love Neil Diamond's voice. it goes so deep lol. This song really speaks to me. I feel like Solitary Man too. you know that, when songs actually "speak" to me. Maybe i just need meds :)

  • Cash is better

  • @1404jaguar Cash nay actually be better, but

although others may challenge this opinion - THIS is arguably the best Neil Diamond song of all time, and he was one of the leading singer song\writers of all time, in fact he was the first of many('66)

  • The other on my tops of male singing vocals is Gordon Lightfoot. Awesome, them both! (Diamond was sexier "back in the day" however!)

  • One of the greatest make vocalists I know of. I really was turned off with his "Heartlight" in the early 1980s, which I thought was an awful sell-out. "The Jazz Singer" remains one of my favorite albums however and, regardless of what others thought, I liked the movie as well.

  • I liked this song in my early teens, only 29 now. Neil Diamond transcends the generations.

  • The Original 1960s recording

    Is a ... M A S T E R P I E C E

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  • todays music is about making money ( most of it, a few exceptions) so it doesn't have the same meaning any more

  • why cant i post to facebook no more?

looks like google bitches are taking control.

  • neil diamond has the most fantastic voice ever!!!!

  • dam, his voice-- makes my toes curl-- first heard him when i was 11 -- i was so impressed with him and he still makes my toes curl at age 53-- there is no other neil diamond-- a voice like a fine tuned instrument!!

  • Excellent!

  • I was a very young child when Neil Diamond first made it in the early 70s so obviously didn't know about him back then. It was my mum who liked his music so that's how I first heard his records. Way back in Feb 99 he played Glasgow 'in the round'. It was the first time he'd ever come to Scotland but what a welcome he got & what a noise the 12,500 fans made. I think he got quite a shock. He was truly brilliant and sang for over 2 hrs solid. Would like to see him again in concert as he was great!

  • Amazing version! Thank you for posting.

  • wow wht a song so meaningfull to

  • fucking AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @shimokita2 Just awesome, please.

  • I dont like this version. I think the version with Johnny Cash is better.

  • Love Neil Diamond, I remember going on road trips and i would always go in my dads car as he always listened to Neild Diamond and Beegee's all the great music, we're as mum would listen to..Shit..

  • Thumbs up if you found this after listening to Johnny Cash and and Neil sing this!

  • i use to listen to this song as a kid before school. am radio was the thing at that time.

  • My brother and I used to listen to this when my father and mother and aunt and uncle all had incurable cancer. Neil kept me alive through all these times. Afterward my brother and I fought in Grenada for Reagan and we were kept alive through the music of Neil Diamond. When my brother died I played solitary man with a high school marching band at his funeral. I love you Neil

  • music died when techicians took over

  • @pilotronimus thats true

  • First music memories for me- Neil Diamond= the father who went AWOL. Sod him- that was years ago but I still love the tunes.

  • Nowhere does it feel the breath of solitude as well as here. A solitude that was a friend of all of us at least once . Every time I hear this song wish

to be a solitary man once again.

  • As great as Neal is he can't sell a song like Johnny Cash. & to his credit Neal knew it too!

  • Superb song writer, incredible baritone voice, accomplished guitarist, and possessor of bushy eyebrows! But I like him.

  • If there was a contest for the most beautiful mans eyes of all time, surely ND would be the outright winner. Does anyone agree with me? If you do vote with a thumbs up

  • @cherrylm2 I think it has a lot to do with the eyebrows. Gotta love strong eyebrows on a man :P

  • @cherrylm2 I agree with you, but what about with his lips ? Arent they fantastic? At that time??

  • @cherrylm2 Neil would def. be the winner.. no one else stands a chance !! =)

  • @cherrylm2 Our aussie by Rick Springfield was pretty good,.

  • @cherrylm2 ~ Elvis Presley and Neil Diamond = Beautiful Eyes and Beautiful Smiles.

  • @cherrylm2 Mine are pretty good

  • neil has a ochestra sound

  • Eh, the Johnny Cash version is better....

  • @CodexYaiba estoy de acuerdo contigo gringo

  • estoy de acuerdo contigo gringo

  • Great tune. Neil Diamond was a great writer.

  • @mikefromdel And still is!!

  • Love Neil Diamond he had his own sound like no others

  • that´s the music i have heard with my father....reminds me of him...feel happy about

  • @anneinfo i live very far away from my father but i also get happy when i listen to Neils songs, just as he does

  • peaceful and beautiful from a beautiful voice

  • I was in highschool and a junior and saw him play second fiddle in '67 at the Houston Live Stock and Rodeo. Nobody knew about the rise to stardom,...but as we listened in the collosium we all felt that there was some kind of magic in the new sound and lyrics that define ND. These deeper voices were a backlash to England hi-pitches. We loved BJ Thomas, Lou Rawls, Barry White, Jim Morrison....and many others....and Three Dog Night...a new era.

  • @urgdaddy

You weren't the only one who liked guys who sounded like guys..ND is way cool..

  • CLASSIC

  • That's the shit Ladies and Gents! lol :)))

  • That has so much more emotion and sensitivity than commercially available recordings.

They're good too, and can still reduce me to tears.

    It's a smashing performance.

    Thanks for sharing.

You're a very fortunate person to have seen/heard this live.

(Those tears I mention are GOOD tears!)

  • Classic!

  • this is really one of the greatest songs ever. his voice is one-of-a-kind. and his eyes are soooo beautiful...

  • what the hell happend to music???? Every new song in the radio is put on for a few months after that no one listens to it .Old songs like solitary man will be listend to forever!!!!!

  • @davidstoklosa

    TRUE!!

  • @davidstoklosa Ah men.

  • @davidstoklosa you have that right, pre-recorded music with lip syncing terrible

  • @davidstoklosa you have that right, pre-recorded music with lip syncing terrible

  • @davidstoklosa You better believe it.Solitary Man doesn't have many equals to it since its release!

  • @davidstoklosa Do you mean to say that "My lovely lady hump" won't be listened to forever?

  • @davidstoklosa

i have to agree with you, neil songs will go on forever

  • freel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @davidstoklosa Because pop sucks. There's too many different artists in the same genre because it's easy to make songs on a computer, unlike learning a real instrument and learning how to sing instead of using autotune and other stuff to make your voice sound halfway decent, which makes all the songs sound the same, so ppl get tired of them :P

  • @davidstoklosa

There were alot of bands in the 90's whose music is still played, but you're right in general for this newer generation.

  • @davidstoklosa

great music still exists & always has, but most it most likely will not be found on the radio. classics are written everyday!

  • @rclayton80 well youre kinda right actually :D

  • @rclayton80 well youre kinda right actually :D I was talking about those pop?rap "stars" there are still great bands

  • @davidstoklosa there's so great new bands though, they're just not played on the radio.. for the most part. and you may be labeled a hipster, for find these hidden gems.

  • @davidstoklosa Blame it on the industry, not the music. They want to sell their stuff fast.

  • THE JEWISH JOHNNY CASH....

  • DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

  • @artywendy DOUCHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the best of the best

  • its to short :( it should be like 10 minutes

  • Only recently started listening to his music a year or so ago. This is one of my favourite songs from the man himself. What an incredible songwriter!!!

  • Neil Diamond is one of the definitive elements of American songwriting and entertainement. I mean that in all honesty and genuiness. The man has a genuine talent. Keep up the awesome work Neil.

  • fabsville

  • my mom was right....he is kool.

  • he is before my time but I love this type of music and hate modern music, this is pure and real, where I can see the passion and truth

  • nice

  • OMG he is soooo gooood

  • Speechless!

  • EXCELENTE CANCION ME ENCANTA Y ME GUSTA COMO LO INTERPRETA NEIL

  • I just want to look at him. OMG we were so good looking when we were young.

  • BEST concert i EVER attended was one of his :) he ROCKED the entire stadium for 3 hrs - awesome!
