I love you
I stumbled across this song recently. I was looking for Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon original on Vinyl and there was a live version of Solitary Man on an LP I picked up from a car boot sale. Loved it immediately- it oozed darkness and depth, I listened in awe as it crackled from my speakers. Only difference is, the version I have doesn't have daft trumpets in the background.

He was , at his very best here, both in voice and looks. Pity can't get a copy of BBC Concert. I have rediscovered him in You Tube Going to his concert at Hampden, Glasgow in July. Can't wait.
I know he has a loyal following but, going to this video as a lark I am seriously impressed by the sensitivity of his performance. Rarely do guys sing with this kind of quiet power. This guy is seriously underrated - but he seems like a quiet guy. His career probably worked for him.
Neil Diamond Fucking Rocks!!! I Do Not See What Is So Good About Neil Young... Neil Young??? What About NEIL DIAMOND??? Hey!! He Ain't A Burn-Out... And His Songs Are MORE "Rock And Roll" Compared To That Loser Neil Young.
At the age of 14 I first heard this Song. By the time I graduated from High School this song was still one of my all time favorites. Outstanding voice and song.
When I watch this video, I get weak in the knees and just wanna reach out and touch him. He just does that to me. And Yes, his eyes does hipnotize me! He's got these sexy eyes that just draws me to him. Not to mention how humble he is, and gorgeous. I can listen to his songs over n over again. Love you Neil!
it has taken the rock hall of fame until 2010 to induct neil i cant wrap my brain around that one,one of the greatest singer songwriters and entertainers of a generation
Man, Neil had it ALL! Supreme talent, stunning singer and songwriter, and to top it off--- he was a super handsome man! Actually he is still very handsome:)
This is unbelieveable. So much emotion. And that is coming from someone who's stereo can usually be heard blasting out High On Fire, Slayer, Alice In Chains...
I respect real music, too, though, and without a doubt Neil Diamond was one of the best at the time this was recorded.
@hoochdini Yeah i'm with you on that man. Excellent singer. Live or recorded. These songs never get old. They are so special and my husband knows why. It's long past the time Neil Diamond should have been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame.
I love Neil Diamond's voice. it goes so deep lol. This song really speaks to me. I feel like Solitary Man too. you know that, when songs actually "speak" to me. Maybe i just need meds :)
although others may challenge this opinion - THIS is arguably the best Neil Diamond song of all time, and he was one of the leading singer song\writers of all time, in fact he was the first of many('66)
One of the greatest make vocalists I know of. I really was turned off with his "Heartlight" in the early 1980s however, which I thought was an awful sell-out. "The Jazz Singer" remains one of my favorite albums however and, regardless of what others thought, I liked the movie as well.

dam, his voice-- makes my toes curl-- first heard him when i was 11 -- i was so impressed with him and he still makes my toes curl at age 53-- there is no other neil diamond-- a voice like a fine tuned instrument!!
I was a very young child when Neil Diamond first made it in the early 70s so obviously didn't know about him back then. It was my mum who liked his music so that's how I first heard his records. Way back in Feb 99 he played Glasgow 'in the round'. It was the first time he'd ever come to Scotland but what a welcome he got & what a noise the 12,500 fans made. I think he got quite a shock. He was truly brilliant and sang for over 2 hrs solid. Would like to see him again in concert as he was great!
Love Neil Diamond, I remember going on road trips and i would always go in my dads car as he always listened to Neild Diamond and Beegee's all the great music, we're as mum would listen to..Shit..
My brother and I used to listen to this when my father and mother and aunt and uncle all had incurable cancer. Neil kept me alive through all these times. Afterward my brother and I fought in Grenada for Reagan and we were kept alive through the music of Neil Diamond. When my brother died I played solitary man with a high school marching band at his funeral. I love you Neil

I was in highschool and a junior and saw him play second fiddle in '67 at the Houston Live Stock and Rodeo. Nobody knew about the rise to stardom,...but as we listened in the collosium we all felt that there was some kind of magic in the new sound and lyrics that define ND. These deeper voices were a backlash to England hi-pitches. We loved BJ Thomas, Lou Rawls, Barry White, Jim Morrison....and many others....and Three Dog Night...a new era.
what the hell happend to music???? Every new song in the radio is put on for a few months after that no one listens to it .Old songs like solitary man will be listend to forever!!!!!
Tell me about it, this man & the music of the 1950's, 1960's & 70's will remain timeless,..thank god for someone who feels the same way i do about music.
@davidstoklosa Because pop sucks. There's too many different artists in the same genre because it's easy to make songs on a computer, unlike learning a real instrument and learning how to sing instead of using autotune and other stuff to make your voice sound halfway decent, which makes all the songs sound the same, so ppl get tired of them :P
@davidstoklosa there's so great new bands though, they're just not played on the radio.. for the most part. and you may be labeled a hipster, for find these hidden gems.
Only recently started listening to his music a year or so ago. This is one of my favourite songs from the man himself. What an incredible songwriter!!!
Neil Diamond is one of the definitive elements of American songwriting and entertainement. I mean that in all honesty and genuiness. The man has a genuine talent. Keep up the awesome work Neil.
Happy New Year Neil.

There were alot of bands in the 90's whose music is still played, but you're right in general for this newer generation.

great music still exists & always has, but most it most likely will not be found on the radio. classics are written everyday!

@davidstoklosa Blame it on the industry, not the music. They want to sell their stuff fast.
