Hey Thegoochman thanks a lot for your great Alpert videos and i had also my chance to see Herb and Lani in 1989 in Upstate New York and that was not enough because i saw them doin' rehearsal before that show,,,greet from Peru
Whenever I hear her voice or see her lovely face, my heart goes pitter-patter, and beats a little bit faster. What class acts, Lani, and Herb! Never heard any scandals or salacious gossip about them. I wish they would write a book about their careers/lives.
Colorific! Such an impression on my life. And as a trumpet player, Herb Alpert I owe you for developing my style when I was a teenager, and you still do today. Thank you both.
pdxet2..i too have expressed many times my wish for Lani's solo work to be released to CD..at least perhaps a two disc greatist hits or something..i was lucky enough to find and purchase recently a used CD of her Volume 19 classics cd...it is now one of my prized possessions..it came from Japan, where as I understand it, her and brasil 66 are still very much in the consciousness of the population over there...unlike i feel they are not over here..
They looked and sounded great. Herb seems to be more comfortable on stage -- exchanging banter with his high school classmate Jack Kemp in the audience (introduced as "My Favorite Republican") and took questions from the audience, including the question about re-releasing Lani's recordings. Lani looks GREAT and sings as well as ever, including "Like a Lover." They did not mention possible new recordings, but I am hopeful!
Along with 3 Dog Nights "Out In The Country" This environmental awareness song was way ahead of its time. I agree with another poster that these two cultural icons are underappreciated. Lani's is angelic and jazzy all at the same time and Herb is a genius.
Lani and Herb are an under recognized celebrity love story. How many in the entertaianment business find true ever lasting love? They have been married now for how many years, about 35 or so? Lani and Herb, I know you won't see this but thank you for your wonderful gifts of music that still sing in my heart to this day and always will. May you have many, many more years together in health and love.
It's a classic Dave Frishberg tune (that's Dave playing piano), "Wheelers and Dealers," which was on Lani's "Hello, It's Me" album (her second solo album). She's singing live, though, this version has several differences from the recorded version.
Miss Piggy's voice changed since then, so did her personallity...

Great to see this. I love her voice and have been a big fan since SM66 days. "So Many Stars" is my favorite. Hope she sings it on the new tour.

This is so cool, I've never even heard of Herb Alpert having a TV special! Was he dating Lani Hall at the time?

I believe they were married in 1974, but I don't know if it was before or after this performance.

Saw Herb and Lani at Blues Alley on Tuesday 5/13/2008 -- Herb said that Lani's recordings are coming out on CD soon!
