Thank you Zack, for giving us Sucker Punch, one of the best films of 2011.
At this point horribly underappreciated, but it will probably be revised in a while... until then, it will have a cult following of sorts.
Because make no mistake - this is a cerebral niche film that people simply weren't expecting, and if you don't use your brain while viweing said film, you will completely misunderstand the film. Completely.
I have now viewed it twice, and the more I think of it, the more complex it is.
Sucker punch is deep at the same time as being indulgent, if you get into the story of the girl and what actually happens to her it will leave you feeling pretty fked up. I woke the next day still depressed about what happened to her, he must be some kind of movie genius for that to happen.
This guy is a genius, he makes movies that make us think. He doesn't give us what we want, and to me that is a good director. I hate this entertainment industry which is always making the same shit over and over again because they think that is what the audience wants but in the process they are just making stale crap, over and over again
@scrubbycritter he makes me think. i'll give you that, but i leave his movies thinking, "why the fuck did i waste my time on this garbage." he completely missed the point of watchmen and this movie was a complete disaster. this movie just shows you a bunch of things and doesn't explain any of it. there are a bunch of characters and you only find out one back story...kind of. all of the girls either over act because of lac of experience or they don't emote at all. this was a fucking mess.
i think Zack Snyder is one of the most gifted and talented directors of our time. I have yet to see Sucker Punch, but I'm upset about the bad reviews i've heard.
