It's not a dream anymore like the old days. It's just a career with a very limited amount of spaces. Remember only a limited amount of commercial aircraft were built
I'm a commercial pilot. If anyone here has the ability to go into medicine, engineering, computers, or other skilled, NEEDED work, DO IT NOW!!!!! Do not start on this path to poverty!!! I have always loved flying! I could have been a RICH heart or brain surgeon, but my dumb ass picked aviation science! FUCK!! DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID! Luckily, I have other skills to fall back on. I'll rent and join a partnership later to keep flying.....just for fun though!
if you're from a rich family or have plenty of moeny that should help. Many pilots have often come from other work areas like doctors and teachers e.t.c. I would generally of thought you would need to show some kind of profesionalism in other areas and not just get you're flying traing although maybe you could just go the flying route as flying itself is a profession and there is no reason why somebody should not dedicate there entire life to that and that should demostrate worthiness
dont listen to anyone man, no on can say u cant do it there is no such as thing a person cant do. I speak to Airline pilots sometimes and they say in short term could be waste of but long term is worth it. Just keep working hard and u will get there. See you on the sky:):)
I would like to wish u good luck and clear skies on your journey to becoming a pilot. I am also working on becoming a pilot btw at only 15 yrs old. On a side note when u become qualified to be an airline pilot please don't fly for Iraqi air go for a bigger airline like emirates, Qatar, or etihad.
(((Fetufab))) what are you talking about? if u know nothing about aviation I suggest you keep your mouth zip okay! there are still shortage of pilots around the world especially Middle East and asia countries and there will be in the future.Do your homework before u talk mate.
@leon6266 I know nothing about aviation huh?got a commercial and ATPLs?even been solo?Im based in aussie so I can only comment on my part of the world
Please don't be dissapointed upon reaching your dream. Remember Its just a JOB like any other, and has it advantages & disadvantages. Just remember there are more grummpy old divorced and broke pilots out there than happy pilots. Don't let your dream blur reality, as you'll be very dissapointed.
I hope your first job as an F.O. pays more than 20k a year.
in the US they pay as little as 16k a year with top pay as an F.O being only 32K (after 6 years). (An average time to be a Captain is about 3 to 4 years if you are lucky).

No. First, you need amazing grades and a very high class ranking. Extremely Competitive! After that, about 11 years of service is required after you join the military to pay off all of the flight training.
In the U.S. no. you can fly fighter jets only if you have 20/20 vision. and on top of that, only 4% of the USAF is actually pilots. the rest are meteorologists and engineers.
You can also fly choppers, but you can do that in all branches: Navy, Air Force, Marines, ARMY which has the most aircraft of all branches.
and of course you can fly the bombers/cargo ships from B-2 spirits to C-130 (20/20 required with or without glasses)
Its a cool job cuz at the end of the day, what do you do? U FLY!

@gansters212 ME TOO!!!!!!!! FOLLOW YOUR DREAM AND YOU WON'T LOSE!!!!!!! TRUST ME!!!!! As the ancient greeks used to say....''The Persistent Wins'' !!!!!!!!!!!
it's a busdriver job on other levels... but you can get fired anytime, anywhere... loosing the investments. Thousands are facing to loose their job with the oncoming crisis,... also pilots and Airlines are using this crisis to reduce saleries even more. If you do it for the flying go for it, .. if you do it for the money or the atmosphere??? forget, you'll be disappointed
just speaking with experience in the industry it is a dead end job ,its best to get a trade first then go for it.The crippling fuel costs that hit the aviation industry recently will go even higher next time so the airlines that survive the recession could well not survive the inceased operating costs-costs that are then passed to the consumer which will make air travel more expensive and out of reach for the average person.hope Im wrong :-) all the best with your flight training!
@WillBePilot "What you said about pilot shortage is true for now, in 2-3 years thing might change.. " The Pilot Shortage rumour has been floating around for decades. It never happens. It never will. There's always suckers lined up to do the job no matter how low it pays. It's the prime reason being a pilot is a poor career decision.
@leon6266 got a commercial?atpl's?,professional pilot?I didnt think so. Your right its just my opinion pal.If I could do things over I would do well in buisness or the professions and buy my own plane and go flying when I feel like it, not when some prick rosters me to .
@Bill1275w just because you cannot do it it doesnt mean others cannot. jealous. Thats ur opinion by the way aviation will be growing especially middle east. Do some research before u talk
If you are an American, once you're done trainging I would recomend the military. Regional airlines pay you McD' wages and treat you like a child. Passengers consider you "second class pilots" They seem to think that bigger planes=better pilots...not the case, and yes, they will piss and moan about everything. Start to date after you've started your career, you'll figure it out later. DONT put all your eegs in one basket, ie. DONT get a degree solely in aviation try accounting, you can still fly
WillBePilot, if you really want to a be an airline pilot, go for it. You have a strong passsion and you'll probably love it. It can be very hard at times and you learn that later on sadly in your career but you can deal with that, great. It appears you are not in the US and will not be getting a job at a US airline, which is very important.
This is my 5th Airline. All from being shut down, layoff, furlough or like 9.11 in New York. And every time you go to a new one...YOU START OVER at the bottom. So now the pay drops and you move back to the lowest rank and also seniority. You will work most Holidays, Birthdays, etc with alot of long days. Dont get me wrong ...THIS USE TO BE a good job. Now you are nothing more than a bus driver. With bus type people onboard.
What if I dont like what im doing now? I do IT and dont want to sit on desk for the rest of my life... programming, after 15 years I will be sitting with young guys just came from uni.. plus its my dream to be pilot... I understand and appreciate the time that you put here to write for me and others...
Im kind of stuck... Some pilots say go for it you will love every day of it and some pilots hates it ...
is it really bad as u guys say becuz i go to a high school dat haves a hanger and 5 planes and im taking flight trainning next year and if it is like u guys saying i will do something different 19k sound like a lot to me
Not saying you should start out at 200K. I am stating why would anyone want to spend that kind of money to join the most watch and tested occupation for CHUMP CHANGE. Every 6 months we have to get a 1st class medical, Simulator ride, Line check, with some random FAA rides also. Not to mention everything we do is recorded.
Most people don't even know that we don't even start to get paid until the jet pushes off the gate. So while all of you are bitching and moaning in the back about how late we are. We have yet to be paid; but still responsible for your safety while on the jet.
you right! too many kids just don't know what they are gettin into. keep dreamino becuz the buck150 is a long way to a boeing! i like my gig, but it's a though life. earnin abuck is hard. 100k sounds a lot though. In Canada it's around 40k.
where u up 2 with ur a pilot training? do you facebook because there is a guy look like you and i added you. Anyways Im starting my pilot training once a week due to lack fund I have.
I no longer fly prof. because of a disability, I did fly for some of the Gov. officials in Minnesota, USA.
Again good luck in you goals and make sure to keep the wheels down and your head in the plane at all times. "Get Home-Itess" is a killer so never rush to get home when your fly.
No offence man but how come u started ur flying late? occuring to ur youtube it says 34 I mean there are more chances getting job in major airline anyway good luck maybe one day u will be my capital on iraqi new boeing which they have ordered about 7 from Germany. By the way how did found PPL? and what are you doing now u got ur CPL
Hey there I live in Western Australia and I will be commencing my CPL soon through TAFE studies and I was curious as to what company you took your flying hours with towards your CPL currently I am looking at Jandakot Flight Centre or The Aeroplane Company and did you become an instructor or flew scenic flights to build PIC hours?
congratulations on living the dream. this vid was posted in 06' so Im sure your done or almost done with training. Im going to start soon. Good luck with your career :)
sa227fly...lol, I know some guys who went to Emirates. GREAT money, that is if you can deal with the massive authority index..."settle" for UPS or FedEx...let me know when they "settle" for hiring you, unless you're dating the COO's daughter, good luck with that..lol
Yeah, I don't want to fly "majors." No joke about the FedEx/UPS gigs though. I'm pretty sure I was being sarcastic about "settling" with the most sought after jobs in the indusrty (can't find my post). Wouldn't mind Gulf or Emirates...would certainly consider it. It's aerial fire fighting for me all the way! SEATs or Type I tankers...
@PIlotrcm Sarcasm. Learn it, love it. I've decided to "settle" outside of professional aviation, though I am purchasing an airplane. Call me crazy, but getting an MBA and a good job seemed like a good idea.
Absolutely agree with the guy on the 152 vs 172. I don't know about reliability, but definately more suitable for longer cross country flights...but the 150 is a loveable, great little airplane.
i don't really like the C 152. sure, it's just about the simplest plane yo can possibly fly.
I prefer the C 172 Skyhawk. Much more reliable, and good for 'everyday' use. Direct from Jandakot to Albany or something. 4 seater, good little all round plane.
Salaam minn matajahar Jandakot ghal matajahar Abu Dhabi. I am not with Etihad but did some flying on contract for them. They have a lot of really nice people there.
Hello I want to be a pilot but do you need spot on grades or just over avaerage?and congratulations!!!!!!! Enjoy it while it lasts.

UAL8658 3 years ago

Some pilots say go for it you will love every day of it and some pilots hates it ...

is it really bad as u guys say becuz i go to a high school dat haves a hanger and 5 planes and im taking flight trainning next year and if it is like u guys saying i will do something different 19k sound like a lot to me
koolcool101 3 years ago
knowone starts out on the top man, and if you've been flying for 14yrs and are still only making 19k then something is wrong
chaoscha 3 years ago
Not saying you should start out at 200K. I am stating why would anyone want to spend that kind of money to join the most watch and tested occupation for CHUMP CHANGE. Every 6 months we have to get a 1st class medical, Simulator ride, Line check, with some random FAA rides also. Not to mention everything we do is recorded.

dude are u serious?????... do u mind if i ask what airline u work for?

Most people don't even know that we don't even start to get paid until the jet pushes off the gate. So while all of you are bitching and moaning in the back about how late we are. We have yet to be paid; but still responsible for your safety while on the jet.
ThickBoeing 3 years ago
Who would want to spend near 100k to get rated for a 19k a year job to start. GET OUT OF AVIATION Get a job that allows you to own your own plane....
I am a 14year AIrline Pilot...Benn on the B-727 MD-80 A319 A320 A321 A330 A340 and it is not all that. Please take it from me.

you right! too many kids just don't know what they are gettin into. keep dreamino becuz the buck150 is a long way to a boeing! i like my gig, but it's a though life. earnin abuck is hard. 100k sounds a lot though. In Canada it's around 40k.

I have said it many times before and I will say it again, To all of you people with dreams, I salute you.
Never ever give up the hope of succeeding in what you set out to do.
Grasp it, hold it tightly, there'll be alot of sweat, but don't let that force the dream to slip out of your fingers.
For if you let it go, your dream will fade and life turn to mush.
Dreams are tough, but damn worthwhile!
Great Video and thank you very much, truly inspirational.

WHAT AIRLINE ARE U WITH IN AUSTRALIA
fenderboy199 3 years ago
I no longer fly prof. because of a disability, I did fly for some of the Gov. officials in Minnesota, USA.
Again good luck in you goals and make sure to keep the wheels down and your head in the plane at all times. "Get Home-Itess" is a killer so never rush to get home when your fly.
take care and good luck

Hey there I live in Western Australia and I will be commencing my CPL soon through TAFE studies and I was curious as to what company you took your flying hours with towards your CPL currently I am looking at Jandakot Flight Centre or The Aeroplane Company and did you become an instructor or flew scenic flights to build PIC hours?

Flying for Emirates would be a great deal! I guess I could settle for UPS or FedEx though.
sa227fly 3 years ago
sa227fly...lol, I know some guys who went to Emirates. GREAT money, that is if you can deal with the massive authority index..."settle" for UPS or FedEx...let me know when they "settle" for hiring you, unless you're dating the COO's daughter, good luck with that..lol

yes you'r right i got 12000hrs exp 33yrs,instructor jet.
they stord my cv's at ??????????????
alfabravozulu 3 years ago
Yeah, I don't want to fly "majors." No joke about the FedEx/UPS gigs though. I'm pretty sure I was being sarcastic about "settling" with the most sought after jobs in the indusrty (can't find my post). Wouldn't mind Gulf or Emirates...would certainly consider it. It's aerial fire fighting for me all the way! SEATs or Type I tankers...
sa227fly 2 years ago
@PIlotrcm Sarcasm. Learn it, love it. I've decided to "settle" outside of professional aviation, though I am purchasing an airplane. Call me crazy, but getting an MBA and a good job seemed like a good idea.

Absolutely agree with the guy on the 152 vs 172. I don't know about reliability, but definately more suitable for longer cross country flights...but the 150 is a loveable, great little airplane.

absolutely

fly safe ;)
kingofflight 3 years ago
i don't really like the C 152. sure, it's just about the simplest plane yo can possibly fly.
I prefer the C 172 Skyhawk. Much more reliable, and good for 'everyday' use. Direct from Jandakot to Albany or something. 4 seater, good little all round plane.

cept wen u stall, they fall out of the sky
low wing planes r better like the piper warrior

yeah, unfortunately. But, the Mooney Bravo doesn't do to well when IT stalls either.
