Could you explain to me what the general middlegame plan is for black after 3... Qd6? I play 3... Qd6, but I'm not really sure of the plans I should follow.
what if white first move pawn to e4 is followed by blacks pawn to d5 like you said BUT BUT BUT, whites pawn at e4 ignores blacks pawn and white pawn just advances from e4 to e5. kevin please explain this
I'm a beginner and currently trying to practice against the computer (comp. player rated 1600. I lose every time). After ...Qa5, d4 the computer always goes ...e5. I have no idea how to react to this. Everything I've tried has resulted in a bunch of pieces getting traded, me ending up with the fewer pieces and getting my ass handed to me. Any recommendations?
@Glaceon16 I've been playing Qe6+ for a while, I wouldn't recommend it. I got my arse handed to me way too much - but maybe that's a reflection on me.
I actually appreciate how you explain both sides because then I can learn both how to play the defense and how to counter it in the same video. though maybe others would prefer if you created a strict defense video and then produced a second video that shows possible/probable counters. in any case, thanks again for your work.
@p3rf3ctl1ght im guessing you didnt listen carefully. he said that both options were avaible. and im also guessing you didnt watch the entire video since he does show that possiblity later on.
@themanflesh I did watch the whole video... and my question refers to the point in the video with the knight developed not right off the bat taking with the queen
At 4:47, you say white attacks both the knight and the b7 pawn, but the knight is guarded by the black queen, and black could play something like b6, or take on f3, and he is fine. Actually, once the queen leaves, white allows for black to get into c2 for the fork.
What defense would you recommend black open with against white's queen's pawn opening. I see it a lot and am only very familiar with king's pawn defense lines.
Why is Qd8 fine later on in the game, when it isn't at the moment it's being attacked by the Knight? Immediate Qd8 might be wasting a move, but doing so later on is wasting two moves.
i like ur videos but this one video is confusing... Most of the time u were talking on how white can attack, not about how black can defend. it loses the purpose of the video.
What about if white doesn't take black's pawn at the beginning but just moves one square ahead? That's what happened in my last game and it didn't turn out so well for me...
You could even take c5 whis is usually played at this point, but Bf5 is less common and I like to play that to try and mix things up, but that offers a pretty fair game. If you play c5 then he'll support with f4 Nc6 Kf3 Bg4, and so on.
To be honest, I think that explaining the two sides is the best he can do.
This way if you are playing with black and want to use this particular defense... or if you are playing white and against it, you will know what to do.

i don't hate you or anything, but i really want to know where you are getting this info from, some 800's or your making this all up plus one more thing unless if your a master don't recommend a move
I take then main lines that you can find anywhere. Then I run them all through deep rybka (rated 3000+). Then I play the opening myself for about a week to get a little more insight.
not sure I've ever seen that move. You could play an aggressive e6, leading to quicker development. After dxe6, then Bxe6 and after Bxe6 again, then Qe7. You may just want to capture with your knight though since your queen is supporting that knight.
eh good video, still prefer a caro-kahn or frenchish defense... btw other day i won with the birds eye view trap. first time ever aganst the bird opening!
what if white pushes his pawn past black's on the third move instead of taking, then protects it with his f or d pawn?

The only problem is that black can't bring his knight to c6

At 6:08 the worst move would actually be Qc8 then you can Bf1- d6.

...what if white doesn't capture the pawn in the beginning?
randomisnotgood 10 months ago
@randomisnotgood Then it wont be scandinavian defense...
T1MB4L4K3 10 months ago
@T1MB4L4K3 That's my point. Not many people capture the pawn in the beginning; thus Scandinavian defense is not as likely to be used.
randomisnotgood 10 months ago
1. e4 d5
2. ed Nf6
3. d4 Nxd?? // No no no can't have any of that. if you play Nf6 you can't be playing wussie moves.
3 ... Bg4! is the move, LOL
PS thanks for your channel I like really your movies.

after 3...Qa5 4.Nf3 c6 5.d4 Nf6 6.Bc4 Black shouldn't play Bg4, because then Bxf7+ Kxf7 Ne5+ Ke8 Nxg4 and white won a pawn

@Cosmoforlife I'd play 2 .... Bf5 3. Kf3 e6... 4. d4 Kd7.

derDenker1992 1 year ago
@Cosmoforlife you could get into a french defence. or you can play c5 or Bf5 which leads into an advance variation of the Caro Kann defence.

I agree. If you're explaining black, explain black. Don't mix the two sides. Your explanations lose tempo.

Just a technical note, but White does not gain a tempo with 3.Nc3, as White has moved a pawn twice with 1.e4 ... 2.exd5.
mhtraylor 2 years ago
Yes he does. Blacks queen moves 2 times after the knight attacks it.
