  • I've seen geiko hundreds of time, yet I continue to get excited every time I see one ^^

  • with the "Ave Maria"?

    mmmmm

  • pffft! sorry but these ceremonies r so constipated, i wouldnt last a minute in there

  • Maiko in black kimono is Mamehana. She is geiko now.

  • Comment removed

  • @sailorek2 The maiko in black is Fukuhina from Miyagawacho, But i guess she does look kind of similar to mamehana. Fukuhina is also a geiko now.

  • @zakurochan1 uh.. You're right. I looked at the wrong picture.

  • take me to japan with you :)

  • I think Japanese music would have been more appropriate with this video. The whole thing just looks like a tourist trap. No Japanese tea ceremony done privately would have all that background noise and talking. It's for dumb ass Americans.

  • @Tuberinio1949 oh please! You don't what you are talking about. It was not a private tea ceremony. That should have been obvious. These tea ceremonies are the precursors to geisha dance performances some of which go back 150 years and they were open to the general public to begin with. The majority of people in there were Japanese not dumb ass americans so you fail there for observation. Take your preconceived notions elsewhere.

  • @Tuberinio1949 go eat a dick you elitist

  • @Tuberinio1949 "dumb ass americans" huh? Last time I checked we were both HUMAN, one & the same. This isn't the kind of tea ceremony that everyone would be quiet in as people go in and out & its not meant to be a dramatically beautiful affair either. What would make you think that? These things are open to people of all races as it is the 21st civilized century, after all. So yes I wouldn't have made the video quite like this >.< but you are no better by calling someone an immature insult.

  • yeah well keep dreaming people if the reactor explodes god save japan dont destroy these magnificent people

  • The mozart in the background is amazing ! Do you know what piece it is ? Sounds like a flute or oboe concerto.

  • Its a bit sad you have put this Mozart and Bach music under the video, it doesn't fit at all...

  • @MrRagtimer Given the feminine cadence it must be mozart.

  • Thanks for sharing that awsome experience!!!

  • How much does it cost for an actual private room with a geisha?

  • Very beautiful

  • omg it's my fave maiko!!! is that toshiteru?????

  • @anticliche321 the second maiko? (in the blue?) yes i think is toshiteru

  • The maiko looked a little depressed

  • Hmmm..some of them must be fresh junior maiko; they look so nervous and robotic. Now you said that sweet was known as monju(sp?)?

SWEET! I'd pass that saucer down to my children. :P Thanks for putting this up.

  • the maiko in blue is Toshiteru,

  • no it doesn't. Men went to geisha houses for high class entertainment such as song and dance with traditional instruments. There were always plenty of prostitutes then and now to fulfill that other need.

  • @RoninDave finally someone who knows!

  • @Tibly -No, contrary to what SOME dumb ass westerners would like to believe, the geisha's aren't prostitutes. ...far from it, instead, they are high class entertainers trained in classical Japanese arts such as the tea ceremony, dance, and music. in fact, the term "GEISHA" literally means "person of the arts".

  • @heomak even though i'm american i do agree it is an art not like taking your's or their clothes off and going to town. or anything else nasty you could possibly imagine. it's about entertainment in a beautiful and graceful way.

  • It means artist

  • Geisha :D すごい

  • how can you ensure that you get a good seat? is it dependent on the price of your ticket or first come first serve?

  • from my experience, they seat you wherever however some of the front row people are VIPs I believe

  • The maiko seemed reallllly nervous or unsettled. Kinda scary...X(

  • @winDragon79 she is a first year junior maiko...so she prolly is a bit scared

  • i am going to be in kyoto in late march.early april i am hoping, when does this festival happen? is it everyday in april or only certain days? i would love to be able to see this if i can.

  • you should be able to catch the Miyako Odori has it runs from all month every day. I think the other two that month start mid-month.

  • Great video! Thank you for sharing this. I fell in love with the Geisha's since I read Liza Dalby"s book Geisha. So it's nice to see a video about them :)

  • nice vid , good music too

  • You know what Japan needs next? A ceremony where the Geisha serve you 7-patty Whoppers! - You know, just like they used to do traditionally...

  • Next time you stop by Kyoto be sure drop me a line.

  • nice vid, great info

  • nice vid dave

  • dude, thats a nice tip. Which of those months is better to travel to Japan? April or November?... Been there on October, and January - February.

  • well with April you get the cherry blossoms - early april that is. Also there 3 geisha performances going on that month.

Nov there are the autumn leaves and typically (though not always) the weather is nice and clear.

There are more fests going on April but because of the cherry blossoms, hotels can be full and expensive.

  • Wow that was a great video.

    Thank you for sharing this,

I am happy that i was able to see this.

Have a nice week, and watch your health.

  • wery classy^^ and wery interesting, i enjoyed this video wery much, no 7 patty whooper this time xD
