  • I'm a history student and a child of the 1990-2000 generation. I don't easily say I'd be willing to turn back time and gladly exchange living in the 21st century for any other period in history.

Except for this moment and this generation. Particularly this band and this kind of rock n' roll. I would give up my smart phone, the Fall of the Berlin Wall, Obama's presidency, the Strokes's rock n' roll revival, the Arab Spring - the past 30+ years, yes, all of it, just for the Last Waltz.

  • Is it really that cold in the venue?

  • @AlexOvertheBee ya noticed that too, guess it's all how they caught chest fevers, see what i did there ;)

  • Yeah Robbie looks stupid singing into a dead mic, but let us all consider that he wrote the fucking song.

  • whats the drummers name???????

  • @SuperMiro73 the drummer/singer/manolin player is the great levon helm!;)

  • @SuperMiro73 LEVON FUCKING HELM.

  • its late and I am diggin this jam

  • 480 improves the sound dramatically!

  • @oliverbury HERE'S THE WORK AROUND TO FIX ALL SOUND PROBLEMS IN ANY VID FOR PEOPLE THAT USE HEADPHONES:

DO NOT PLUG YOUR HEADPHONES INTO YOUR PC OR LAPTOP.

PLUG YOUR POWERED SPEAKERS INTO YOUR PC OR LAPTOP, THEN

PLUG YOUR HEADPHONES INTO THE POWERED SPEAKERS.

ENSURE THE VOLUME KNOB (IF YOU HAVE ONE) ON YOUR LAPTOP IS ON FULL, ENSURE THE SOFTWARE VOLUME CONTROL IS AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL.

LAST, TURN UP THE VOLUME ON YOUR POWERED SPEAKERS.

THE SOUND FROM YOUR HEADPHONES WILL BE EAR SPLITTING LOUD

  • @yourtreat2 of course that has no affect on vids the somehow play too fast, such as this one. its about an octave high for chrissakes.

  • @Putaspellonyou Can't do anything n on-technical for these folks, but I repeatedly hear the same complaint about not being able to hear a Vid. I just provided a (rather obvioous) work-around for that complaint.

  • and that that it was clearly about R.R rather than all members equaly!

  • This song is awesome- similarly to ever song on the Last Waltz. My only complaint for Mr. Scorsese is that he didn't include allll the songs from the concert in the movie.

  • Why do the best things always disappear ? like The Band

  • winterland is gorgeouss!! ahhh wish i cudve seen that wonderful place

  • There is no individual person that makes the band what it is, no instrument that jumps out and takes over. Everything is harmonious. its how its supposed to be.

  • @secretagentYTer exactly!!! that's why the name is so perfect..."THE Band" and they were. Five gifted musicians in absolute harmony on stage....what could be better?

  • is this song related to Hamlet? i've always liked it but just realized the lyrics could maybe relate to Shakespeare's Ophelia

  • @zimmawoman no

  • i was always mistaken into thinking there were five members in the band until i saw the last waltz.

  • i saw Levon Helm and John Forgerty at the rexall center in Toronto, Ontario. holy fuck Levon Helm even though he has throat cancer them man can still sing great he is a true man, awesome to see live and i truly admire the man, he is a "great" in my books.

  • they make it look so easy

  • 2.38,love to watch ricks fingers rock the base.He must have been one of the best around

  • Having the cameras turned the on such that they gave their best performance here,Beautiful, just beautiful.

  • I love how 0:34-0:53 focus on only Robbie while he isn't singing, and when he does it is in an unplugged microphone. The Band had it all, Danko, Manuel, Hudson, and Helm. Robbie's writing is second to very few, but he should not have been the center point of the film.

  • @drumricky93 amen - scorsese added it to make RR look like a general, and he ends up looking like a dick. he doesnt finish his chorus as he seems to turn his head to the horns and say blow guys

  • turn your mic on robbie i cant hear you.

  • Someone has clearly done something wrong in the band behind judging by Levon's expression at the end!

  • Sadly, my wigger brother is listening to cRap now. :( This is true music right here.

  • @MultiWhatever88 Lol... I know what you mean, my son likes cRap, too, but I've always played the good stuff since he was little and I see it's been rubbing off on him. His IPod has Neil Young, Pink Floyd and even the Mama's & The Papa's! So there IS hope, keep playing this music LOUD!

  • @wtglb Oh sweet, got the good stuff on his Ipod. There is hope...LOUD hope. My friend's 25 yo daughter is a HUGE Band fan...who knew?

  • @wtglb Oh sweet, got the good stuff on his Ipod. There is hope...LOUD hope. My friend's 25 yo daughter is a HUGE Band fan...who knew? I would throw in some Little Feat just to even everything out.

  • @MultiWhatever88 you're a hypocryte who pretends to love music. seriously man get a grip. some of the greatest lyrics ever written came from hip hop.

  • I remember seeing The Band several times from 1969 (Fillmore East) to Watkins Glen. One reviewer at the time said they come on the stage with the demeanor more of the 'Budapest String Quartet' than a rock band.

Robbie Robertson seems to be the one you love-to-hate here on YouTube. He may be a total prick -- I don't know; I have never met him and most likely neither have you.

I have read that Beethoven was a total prick as well.

  • @ruenrom0878 I voted you down, and I meant to vote you up!!!

  • i dont think i could love something more than levon's drumming. and the facial expressions in pursuance of said drumming 0:27

  • 18 people are listening to Justin Bieber right now. This is a master piece.

  • Powerful backing vocals from Robbie Robertson...

  • @MooNTHELooN77 His microphone was off. Everyone but Levon helm was overdubbed

  • @MooNTHELooN77 you need to watch this again if you think robbie has some powerful backing vocals

  • Sarcasm.

  • @MooNTHELooN77 I see what you did there...

  • Such an ecliptic mix; great guitar work, and awesome horns; you cannot find sound like this today.

  • why do the best things always disapear?

  • Hey Robbie, your mic is off.

  • @gsmith140 LOL

  • @gsmith140 ya they probably did that on purpose

  • @gsmith140 that was on purpose (allegedly)

  • This song curiously reminds me of the Toy Story song.

  • The Band makes my basement flood...

  • Robby Robertson is so HOT! But I would only leave my man for Levon Helm....

  • F***ing AWESOME

  • 17 people are lost looking for Ophelia

  • relax......they were a team...they wrote and sang together....one of the best BANDS EVER!!!!!

  • LEVON!

  • love this band!

  • Robbie your mic isnt even on! LEVON YOU GOD!

  • Levon will always be my favorite. Met him in '83 backstage at Joyous Lake in Woodstock. So down to earth. Gave me a piece of Teaberry gum. :) Rick Danko and Richard Manuel were there that night too. I will never forget it.

  • If you can, go to Levon's Midnight Ramble in Woodstock, NY! Levon still has it all!!

  • 14 idiots

  • lol 14 dislikes... comon people... you don't dislike the BAND!!!!

  • @mudbathsunshower 14 people can't find Ophelia.

  • Love the Band but Robbie Robertson was such a POSER!! Still love Levon's stuff but......Robbie who?

  • @frankieutah It's funny because Robbie wrote most of their songs.

  • i watched this film just recently for the first time, meant everything to me. and levon is incredible, they all are. bless em.

  • @2332aloha simply put, one of the best if not THE best concert films ever made. Scorsese did a great directing job, the interviews were outstanding as they told stories about the road during their career, and the list of musicians that played that night at the Winterland on Thanksgiving 1976 was like a who's who of rock and roll, from Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Dr John, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield, Bob Dylan, and several others. A timeless classic film!!!

  • Just saw Levon live tonight in Toronto. His voice is about 70% gone but he still manages to sing a few songs. He did this one 3rd song in. Love it!!! Guy brought a tear to my eye.

  • @MassDump What ashame :/ Atleast he is sticking with it though

  • @MassDump oh I'd say he's nothing like he used to be. I can't believe he's still singing, after throat cancer. he was amazing though.

  • finally, somebody wrote something about an Ophelia that doesn't die at the end of the story!

  • @moonblossom15: Nope, looks like she escaped whatever was coming for her. Good for her. :)

  • R.I.P Richard Manuel & Rick Danko

  • 12 people don't like Greek Mythology.

  • @bloodnokian ummm wtf does ophelia have to do with the greeks? William Shakespeare was English!

  • The DVD " The Last Waltz" is ECELLENT if you LOVE The Band! Worth watching for sure!!!!

  • The second best concert film ever! After Stop Making Sense.

  • @pvthitch Sorry I had to go over and post on the SMS vid that Last Walts is #1

  • waitin for the second comin, of ophelia. please darkin my door..

  • @animascat ....I believe its please knock on my door.

  • @kggolden after looking it up, you know by now. that it is, indeed, darken my door. which, really, adds a nice flavor to the song.

  • How good is Levon Helm, best I have seen and drum!

  • @quaky100

my favorite Band songs are when he sings!

  • i dont think the 11 people were watching the same vide as us...

  • @k05011986m noew are 12!!!

  • tHERE IS ONLY ONE BAND YA SEE IT HERE

  • @BapidBeagle ur not kidding! thanks

  • @BapidBeagle Wow.... that is no exaggeration

  • @BapidBeagle Good Call!

  • Levon.

  • Levon Helm is a fucking classic, Wow, Such a talent.

  • Comment removed

  • Levon in the movie, 'The Right Stuff' Good fuckin shit!!!

  • ha I always laugh when I see Robertson in the last waltz.

Levon states that his Mic was powered off! .

  • this a great album

  • Five hundred years from now people will still be listening to Mozart, Beethoven and The Band.

  • I really LOVE Levon Helm !!!

  • 480p .... quality is way better :o <3

  • @jahlstrand1995 wow it actually is! hahaa

  • Robbie is a legend. I almost cry every time I hear that signature tone from his strat.

  • Nope havent heard of that album lol

  • Hi indecentyouth

Yeah they found her . . . she was residing in a little hamlet in England. But, seriously, what a Band that was. Have you tried their album Jericho?

  • Happy Birthday, Levon!

  • Do you think they ever found Ophelia?

  • @indecentyouth No, but I'm sure he's still waiting for her second coming.

  • @PhatLarkin hahahah

  • I love you Levon

  • Levon, Levon, Levon.

  • Fantastic song for a superb group, the Levon Helm´s voice is wonderful, in my memory forever Rick and Richard

  • @ericx777: Well the irony here is that pretty much all the songs we see in the film The Last Waltz were overdubbed (except Levon Helm's parts). Rick Danko's bass was slightly out of tune, Garth Hudson had some problems organising the organ and synthesizer part properly and Robbie Robertson re-recorded some guitar solos. Not too sure about Richard Manuel's parts.

In any case, if you get "The Complete Last Waltz", you'll find there are no overdubs. And some other songs too! A good collection!

  • tremendO!

  • cant post tab

  • R.I.P. Richard Manuel

  • watch in 480p

  • ...2 great guitar solos here...can someone out there tab them...? or how about a you-tube lesson....?

  • @fatschlamp1 yea i figured out how to play it myself msg me back and maybe ill tab it for you

  • @TheLazZzar gimme gimme gimme....!!!!!!

  • Makes you want to beat the shit out of Lady Caca & Justin Beaver!!! Did no one learn from The Band? Harmony, melody and a catchy riff played on REAL instruments WITHOUT pitch correction, sync tracks or other bullshit computer generated shit!

    REAL MUSIC folks... REAL MUSIC!!!

  • eargasm tbh

  • Love The Band! They're unique.

  • levon's vocals are on fire.. dont believe me?? explain the smoke comin out his mouth then

  • Awesome but Robbie's backing vocals are terrible and out of place

  • @pennyadren he sing hey you heard the unedited on my channel?

  • /watch?v=HwyugoQnm8g this is the original version of this song unedited uncut no overdubs right here

  • Great music from great band

  • Simply amazing shit.

  • Yeah Joshua Robbins, rockin it hard

  • Why is there steam coming out of Levon's mouth?

  • This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!!!

  • Opheeeeeeeeeeeelia, where have you gone?

  • This is seldom heard, but as good as it gets

  • The Band kicks ass! Still have my 33's of their alblums.

3 Dog Night also had the same type melody.

  • ah ya 1000th like

  • To me friends, The Damn Quails!!!!!

  • Dislikes? Your doing it wrong.

  • come on now ,, dislike ???? if you dont like The Band you don't know music !!!

  • ...how such wonderful, happy music can produce the kind of ugly, bitter responses seen on these pages is beyond me...

..who are these mean men (because they could only be male...) sitting at home typing out this filth? are you married...? do you raise kids...?

  • @fatschlamp1 Stereotype much?

  • @coyote023 , i agree with your assessment of The Band. There's alot more that you could have said about them !

  • unreal

  • It's nice to see Levon is still kickin with his Electric Dirt Band.

  • I can never listen to this just once

  • yes

  • Those 9 Dislikes must have Dial-Up and are laggin out like a mofo.

  • LEVON!!!!

  • electric guitar and horns....always loved this in the song!

  • WH-A-A-A-T??? 9 Dislikes?? That's impossible. That shouldn't be. Who are those 9 and why are they still breathing????

  • @neile11256

I'll just assume that 9 people clicked the wrong button.

  • It's because, apparently far too many people like to think that their crappy opinions really matter. These critical buffoons most likely could write their way out of a musical wet paper bag.Whereas Robertson has written many great songs. Probably everyday, some internationally famous artist considers one of his songs to record. If some of these jackmeats are offended by this comment...GOOD! That's why I posted it.

  • question - is it possible for a band fan to go 2 days without slagging off robbie robertson...? i propose a contest - how many comments pages can be filled before someone next feels the urge...

hint: the winner is possibly not a winner at all

  • @fatschlamp1 lol The last part is funny cause it's true.

  • Oh dammit boys I love that you gave us your music. thanks so much for putting a smile on my face. Now that is some damn good music, heartfelt and sincere. Oh everybody got their blessings, them high points that give some heart to the life they are living and as I was doing that The Band was the icing on the cake. Thank you each one that was there.

  • There’s no need to rip on one member or another of this spectacular group. The Band is a classic example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.

  • Robbie pretends to sing, but in fact he is not singing at all. His microphone is not even on. He wrote most of the tunes, so props to him for that, but the fact that he pretends to share the same vocal responsibilities as levon and danko and even garth is pathetic. Screw you robbie!

  • @Funintheheatsun Come on man, most of the songs are his, he likes to join in but he's musicminded enough to keep the mic off cuz he knows his voice can't compete with the others, you sound jealous buddy, could it be you got a bad voice PLUS you can't write a cool tune? I just got a bad voice but still i like to sing cuz my songs are good!! Robbie is the man!!

  • Man, check Rick Danko playing the shit out of that bass. What a legend.

  • Levon Helm is the MOTHERFUCKING man

  • Levon Helm is the motherfucking man!

  • WOW!! THIS is REAL MUSIC...performed by...of course, THE BAND!!... Thank you so much for this first rate post from all perspectives.

  • Now, this IS music!! Take heed so called "artists" of today......THANKS for such an awesome post! Fantastic quality....incredible performance.

  • He does look a little like Ron Jeremy, but I'm not able to see his junk!

  • I saw these guys open for the dead in94. Sooooooooo Good! The dead and the band on LSD (Lake Shore Drive, Chicago that is) :)

  • here's a bunch of guys, playing and singing just for the love of it, for the feel good, and to entertain, sure money is always good, but they always wanted to give people something of themselfs, not like on our days, it's all about the haion the face, pants n theit knees and expensives shoes, lighs tricks and crazy moves, how about thoes sound efects, not much singing going on our days, I was born when this guys were right on top, love em, end of rant : )

  • the guy playing first trombone looks %100 like ron jeremy. 2:30

  • @SMDforTacos tromboner gets much better coverage than richard and garth, you can him change a mute which is cool

  • These lot are simply the greatest ...such passion and feeling ..great writing great musicians....just outstanding even 40.....aye 40 years on...wonderful

  • Levon just belting it out with all his heart!! Now that's a singer!!
