  • I just put together my altar and I have powdered incense but idk how to use it.. i try to light it by itself but it won't burn... help?

  • @jessikagurl101 You need to use charcoal. Find some designed for this; they are round and have chemicals in them so they will light easily. I buy mine at a health food store. You can also get them at most occult stores, Catholic supply stores, on online -- google "incense briquettes."

  • beautiful altar; Blessings

  • Love this altar! Beautifully!

    Blessed Be! )O(

  • A-tham-e? thats the first time I've ever heard it pronounced that way XD Kool alter though

  • @SunGodRa ha ha tis' all good people do have different pronouncations XD... did you make an updated video of your alter now?

  • where did you found that beautiful pentagram?

  • you have the same athame as me dude loveing it

  • But i do find this religon facinating

  • i would like to know if an athame has to be double edged or if it can be single edged, and if it can be a single edged knife or "athame" can it be a folding knife

  • @fatlizzard19: "Traditionally" speaking, it's typically a double-edged blade. However, please keep in mind that there is no 'one' way that is the 'right' way in Wicca. Do what feels the most comfortable for you. Also, another thing to keep in mind is, the power lies within the witch, not the tools. The tools are there to aid you in your workings. The same level of success can be accomplished w/o any tools at all, by simply using your index finger. So don't put so much importance on the items. :)

  • Very nice setup, clean and simple. I have that very same wand, mine came with a book. I don't ever use it, though.

  • i was thinking "arent there catholic altars?" so i looked them up, and to be honest, they could be an expensive pagan altar in a church. just look at it, a christian altar usually has the following: central symbol, mary statuet, crusafix, flowers and two or three candles. HELLO pagan!

  • @asmodeous9 I simply love you Asmo. I truly think you are adorable!

  • @Ramohog: I appreciate your concern and what you think is the truth. But there are many paths to enlightenment, and your Jesus does not hold the patent on "the way". I wish you the best regardless. :)

  • @SunGodRa Well Jesus is God in the flesh, backed up by a more sure word of prophecy, and confirmed through His Holy Spirit. More paths to enlightment..... only one path to eternal life with our Creator and Heavenly Father. It's either the Holy Spirit leading to life, or a deceiving spirit leading you astray with the sole purpose to miss your eternal destiny.... Your choice!

  • @Ramohog: Yes, exactly. It's my choice, and I choose this one. :) Thank you for your concern, but it is unwarranted. I wish you happiness in your path.

  • @SunGodRa How do you know your path is the right one? How do you test the spirits wether they are from God or not? How do you separate truth from deception?

  • @Ramohog

You do realize that anyone could have written the 'bible?' There is no proof that anything in it is real. Just so you know. And by the way, t's people like you who give Wiccans like us a bad name. We do no evil, nor do we harm or worship your 'devil' thing. Please stop it. Thank you. Blessed Be~

  • @TheWoodstockwolf Prophecy and history are real. We are without excuse. You either love the truth or you don't

  • @Ramohog

such ignorance. try reading more things than just the bible.. it might open your eyes and lead you closer to God.

    Wisdom elevates you know..

  • @alkas79 Well I have studied comparative religion, the cults and the occult in relation to history. The Holy Spirit of God based in love is the ultimate source of wisdom. He leads and guides into all truth and show you things to come, so you will not be deceived and have the discernment to separate truth from deception.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom and in all your getting, get understanding..... My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6)

  • @Ramohog

try reading Daoism. the truth is out there long before christianity. christianity is not the salvation you know.. you can reach enlightment through almost all religions. stop feeling so special. you aint no better than any other that believes wherever.try doing some meditation and see where this guides you. then you maybe able to talk about God and the Holy Spirit. i am christian, just not a fool to believe whatever the church dictates for its sheep.. as i said.. WISDOM ELEVATES.

  • @alkas79 I've done all that in my search for truth, wisdom and enlightment, until I got born again with the Holy Spirit. That's why I know the genuine from the counterfit and the false light. The Bible is a more sure Word of prophecy. God makes Himself known through His revelations and His manifestation, so we might establish a personal relationship with Him. Everything else is philosophy and vain deceit after the rudiments of men. You are a fornicating Christian.... not pleasing to God!

  • @Ramohog Amen Brother

  • I love my local thrift store. I've found some amazing items! Nice altar, by the way.

  • @PandoraKyss ive found all kinds of stuff in free piles, including the shelves that is the alter itself and the sunflower garland was made from silk flowers i found.

  • I wasn't really clear on the bowl. Where could I get one like that?

  • very beautiful

  • you burn the powder incense on charcole and the figure on your athame is isis if you got more questions let me know

  • @Steinbach1986: Thank you friend. I explained 'why' I didn't know for 'certain' about the deity on my athame in the comments below, and the charcoal has been explained to me. :)

  • another plus of wicca: cakes and juice as a ritual!! wooooo!!!!!

  • I love your Altar design it is wonderful!!

  • You're very lucky for having a Fauno stattue and a so beautiful Egytian dish. Those aren't easy to find in my country.

  • Wow, I really enjoyed your video! :) I actually am lacking in a true God statue at the moment (budgetary reasons mostly), so I have substituted with a piece of petrified wood that is special to me. Thanks very much for sharing. Blessed be! )O(

  • Love the music ! Your altar is amazing, love the athame and the pentacle im to sucky at art so i had to buy a altar tile for mine )O( Blessings!

  • SunGodRa i am just wondering, why you have placed the God at the left and the Goddess at the right hand side? Is there any special meanings for you in changing their places?

    Moonlight Blessings to you

  • Traditionally, Goddess has always been placed on the right and God on the left as her consort. When Christianity's influence was sweeping across Europe, this of course was reverted, and females were associated with the left side. A most famous painting plays on this little fact: The Mona Lisa. Da Vinci, for instance, painted the background of Mona Lisa slightly skewed, so that when viewed from the left, she appears larger. So yeah, simply the old traditional placement of the Divine Feminine.

  • Why is your athame positioned so it would be picked up by the left hand?

  • Do you have something against the left hand?

    Ra,

  • The distinction between right and left is very common in magic. In the case of the athame, consider that the athame is associated either with air (east) or fire (south). Either can be thought of as to the right, especially the south. Remember as well that "deosil" means "to the right." If you are right-handed, then to pick up the athame with your main hand would require and awkward crossing over. (cont.)

  • (cont.)

Everything in magic and religion matters. Whatever symbolism you choose to put on right vs. left do so deliberately.

  • Hm, interesting. All of these years of having studied and practiced Wicca, never once have I come across a single sentence, from any author, about placing the athame on the left or right making a difference. All of the books I've read, by Raymond Bucklond, Scott Cunningham, Gerald Gardner etc, have all said the placement of the altar is something very personal, and there is no one 'right' way. To do what feels right and the most comfortable to the witch in question.

    Ra,

  • If you want to talk about years and reading, we could talk about my having started with Wicca in the mid-70s, the two books I've had published on the subject, or my references in Ronald Hutton's Triumph of the Moon.

But two more important things are frst that the whole "do what seems right" is fairly recent in Wicca, starting with Scott Cunningham. It's not part of the historical basis of Wicca.

Second, I didn't in fact say that one was was wrong and another right, (cont.)

  • (cont.) simply that what you do matters, that doing things differently has different meanings, and that you should think about that.

  • Really? You've had two books published? Can you give me the names, I'd absolutely love to pick them up from my local bookstore! I think that's so impressive! :) But on the subject of placing one thing on the left side or the right having a different meaning is one field I'd have to agree to disagree with you. I'm really pleased your own way works for you, but I don't place as much importance in the tools, nor their placement, as I do in the witch. The power comes from the witch, not the tools.

  • I'm sending the titles of the books by PM.

You say the power is in the witch, not the tools. This raises the question of why use tools in the first place. This is not meant to be a snotty remark, but one to truly think about. If its the will of the witch that matters, not the tool, then why bother with a tool?

The answer is, of course, that a tool allows the power of the will to be increased and/or directed more efficiently. (cont.)

  • (cont.) But that implies that a tool can be better or worse, or used in a better or worse way. For instance, Ive often unscrewed Philips screws with the nail file on my knife. It works well enough. But how much better would my will be accomplished with a Philips screwdriver? A nail can be driven in with the handle of a hammer. How much better is it to use the head?

If we are to bother using a magical tool at all, we have to think about these things. Is it the best tool for the job? (cont.)

  • (cont.) Are we using it in the best way possible?

An example would be using your finger for a circle casting. Sure, it would work. But how much better would an athame work? It is a cutting tool, and sacred space is cut off. It is a tool of fire, and how cool is it to think of a wall of fire? It is also the tool of the south, and the word for south in many languages is connected to the Irish word deosil, the usual direction for casting a circle. (cont.)

  • (cont.) The word for right is often connected too (such as Latin dexter). Now combine cutting, fire, south, deosil, and the use of the right hand. How much stronger have you made the meaning of casting the circle? How much stronger have you directed your will?

Theres an even bigger problem with the idea that its your will that matters, not your tools. One of the central beliefs of Wicca is that the material is as sacred as the immaterial. (cont.)

  • (cont.)To say that material tools arent important, that what matters is the immaterial will, is to deny this. Magic doesnt come from the immaterial will alone; it comes from the interaction between the material and the immaterial. If you dont treat your tools as powerful in themselves, you are treating them as if they were dead. You are treating the material world as if it were dead. That is inconsistent with Wicca.

  • (cont.) Magical tools, like the altar you made your clip about, are important. The way they are made and the way they are used affects how well your will is accomplished. Everything is related.

  • @Naiant: I respect your opinion on the amount of importance you seem to place on objects, however let us agree that it is 'your' opinion, and I'm entitled to mine. The tools are in no way a 'necessity', they are there to 'aid' the witch. The power comes from within, not from inanimate objects. The tools help you better concentrate and aid your cause, however the same amount of success can be accomplished w/o any tools at all. (cont.)

  • (cont.) The only light in which I see the tools are simply objects which help me better concentrate and aid my work. If for a single moment I thought that I would be only half as successful in my workings w/o the aid of some blade or goblet, I'd pack up my things and turn my back on Wicca. In my opinion, it's ridiculous to think one's success should depend on an object. A witch's power is not dependent on outside sources or objects, and to say it does is to deny the power of the witch.

  • @SunGodRa I think this is a ridiculous argument. Most of the wiccans here on this site place an EXTREME amount of importance on all of their "witchy" knick knacks. In reality, I think that without all the theatrics and doodads they buy and make videos about, most of them wouldn't even be interested in wicca. I am bored with all the "look at all the stuff I have" videos. Where are the videos on the actual spiritual practice? These material videos outnumber them for sure.

  • @Dix994 Please go and check out my other videos. You'll find all of the other ones I've got on the sabbats and rituals. :)

    Ra,

  • @SunGodRa I'll do that. I wasn't talking specifically about you, you know. I don't know much about you. I was commenting on the comment from Naiant, and meant that a huge majority of the wiccan posters on this site.

  • @Dix994 That's because we like sharing most of the stuff we have with other pagans, and other people, so that they can see what they could do with their altar, or just to show it off. And there are PLENTY of videos with actual practice.

  • very nice alter, I love it

    Blessed Be

  • Blessings, have you thought about illustrating for magick trade books, or your own grimoire, book of shadows. U are very talented.

  • amazing :) thank you for this.

    blessed be.

  • merry meet. just a quick question. where did you get your wand?

  • I have the same wand i bought it in a book called 'the wandmakers guidebook' even though the book has nothing to do with wicca the wand is amazing though. bb

  • Just a question, why do you use the pentacle point down? I know second degree initiates use them to represent the darker side of the personality, but based on what I've been taught, an upside down pentacle stands for chaos. I mean I'm not sure if that varies by tradition too, so Just curious.

    Blessed Be

  • @Gan596: All the gibberish about upside down pentacles being evil or negative or whatever else are absolute rubbish. It's thanks to the Devil worshipers who have adopted that symbol in an upside down position that it has gotten a bad name. In truth, it's no different than those same Devil worshipers using an upside down cross. Some Wiccan Covens, who use the initiation level system, use it to represent the 2nd degree. I'm personally a solitary practitioner, so it stands rightside up on my altar.

  • @SunGodRa I beg your pardon, I meant no disrespect : ) I was just curious. I know a few of my friends use the upside down pentacle for the same as the pentacle point up. I've just been taught through tradition that the upside pentacle stands for the darker side of the personality and for some trads chaos (Though definately not evil). Thank you for clearing that up for me.

  • your altar is absolutely amazing! It really is beautiful

    x

  • Excellent work..you've definatley put a lot of effort into your beliefs.. I appriciate that.. Godess Bless..

  • the knife was osiris

  • Comment removed

  • How do you protect yourself from demonic spirits? Do you believe good and evil or the new world order? Is there any way to use large quartz crystals to amplify energy in a circle or alter? I have been finding tons of them large and small. I am thinking one day I will be able to use them for meditation or spell casting, but I am such an amature at this right now. Thanks!

  • Hm, tough questions, I'll try to answer them as best as I can, in my personal opinions and beliefs. First, I personally do not believe in demonic spirits. In my opinion, the dead do not come back to haunt the living, and even if they could, I'd think they would have better things to do than to pester the living. I believe there is both light and dark in each of us. Yin and Yang my friend. (Cont'd..)

  • (..Cont'd)

I have read of certain rituals and energy raising methods, which can be stored away for later use, when a large quantity of energy is required, however I personally have never had need of it, thus I have never practiced it. The only sort of crystal I make use of, which might qualify as an 'energy' crystal would be the one inside of my wand. Aside from that, I can't be of much help to you. I wish you the best in your endeavors. Blessed be.

  • @TruthSmack Some wiccans/pagans dont even beleive in demonic spirits. Others do but we beleive that something like that only has as much power as you give it. And yes. Crystals will store energy for you or amplify energy automatically.

  • to any looking for cermonial daggers, try the shops in china town. they have tons of cheap daggers and swords! mostly replicas but we're not joining Alexanders army!, so a replica is fine! )O(

  • wanted to know if any one had taught you how to burn the powder insence yet? if not let me know and I do a video for you about it

  • Fantastic altar brother.

  • I love your video and your accent! It's truly amazing. Great job!

  • Powdered incense requires charcoal.

Catholic stores (I know, right!?) sell the ignitable charcoal and powdered frankincense separately.

Simply light the charcoal, add the powdered incense, and voila!

That said, they don't burn long, so they're only good for smudging.

  • Your accent is lovely! I worry about my frequently too, which is why I'll never do youtube videos! I love your alter, it's beautiful!

  • whgat is the plate called? somone gave me a really pretty plate from cambodia

  • This is absolutely beautiful

    Blessed Be )O(

  • I love your altar. Thank you for posting, and Blessed Be.

  • second hand shops are great places to pick up stuff. i got my marble mortar and pestle and a little crystal salt dish form one. you're altar is truely beautiful. i love the egyptian style to it.

  • nice alter:-)

  • Wow, it's really beautiful! :)

  • Nice job on your altar and nice to know that some people understand that it is the symbolism that is important, what ever figure you get to symbolise the god or the godess is your own impretation - it does not have to be someone else's at all as long as you know what is right for you. So for all looking here, remember that you do not have to buy a €uro or dollar 200 fane Athame, You do not have to buy a solid silver pentacle or $300 wand.

    Compliments.

  • Thrift shops are the best, and so is ebay!

  • I am so happy that people are finally getting to choose their religion and getting creative with their altars .

I wish there were more tolerance *sigh*

  • I love Pagan altars , they're like Feng Shui

  • Don't appologise for your accent! xD Silly.

Your accent = winfully awesome :oD

  • I love your alter! It's beautiful, and I love how you incorporated things from the thrift store. Much love and light!

  • Isis! I love her. I have a lot of supplies from my thrift shop. To burn powder incense you can use charcoal tablets. It's so cool to look back on all the supplies and realize that collecting them is a long journey. Beautiful altar. Thank you for sharing you space with us.

  • very nice:) BB

  • Lovely and the tools are way cool.

  • cool altar, but its pronounced ath-a-may not athamee

  • to dragonmasterkyle

everyone has problems knowing how to pronounce athame

    he says it his way

    you say it your way

    I say it my way

  • amazing altar! blessed be!

  • I have a clay pentacle I made on my alter to :p

  • Great altar.

With the powder incense you put it on charcol.

Have a God and Goddess day.

  • great altar

  • your altar is really beautiful

  • Hello SunGodRa!!!.... I have a lot of recipes to do powder incense.... if you want I can translate some of them for you.... just let me know ´cause I have all of them in spanish....

    Blessed Be!

  • Love your alter. I'm thinking of making my wand very soon. All I need is a stone or two, some feathers etc and I would make it.

Anyway, what is the best clay that you know of?

  • The fact that you didin't know what diety is featured on your athame is so ridiculous.

Another teenager brought in to deface the religion through disillusion and the want to be different. Its been 50 years, and it's already a joke.

  • Hathor's name implies that she is the protector of Horus. It is likely that Hathor has previously been considered the mother of Horus, and by extension the mother of the pharaoh. However, as the influence of the goddess Isis grew, Hathor's role as Horus' mother was absorbed by Isis, as were the roles of other Egyptian goddesses.

    *continued*

  • Thus, it is often difficult to decipher between the two goddesses as they're so closely interwoven. I suggest before you make 'ridiculous' accusations, you read up on your mythology. I have never had the desire to study Wicca with the pathetic purpose of appearing 'different'. Your ignorance disgusts me. Good day!

  • nice i like how you made your pentacle and used things given to you by friends

the libations dish is very nice

    blessed be

  • Your altar is beautiful!

  • namaste. may the god/ess always- Light your way on your path to enlightenment

  • really pretty

  • Would you tell us what website you got your wand? I would love to check it out. Your altar and tools are beautiful especially your wand.

    Blessed Be

    )O(

  • Thank you. :) It wasn't a special website, it was on eBay. Just search for Wiccan items, there are many wonderful items on sale there.

    Ra,

  • Pretty video, it just reminds me some symbolism of our masonic temple... I like study ancient Egypt. Greetnings from Mex.

  • The wand is from the book The Wandmaker's Guide, which is meant for children, but has a really nice wand. I owned 2, but one broke and the other was lost. :(

  • nice, thanks for sharing :)

    )0( Blessed Be )0(

  • And that concludes your level of tolerance and intelligence. :)

  • Kewl.

  • Cool alter!By the way,where are u from?Cant tell by ur accent.)O(.

  • Turkish in origin. :)

    Ra,

  • for the powdered incense, all you have to do is get the incense(powered) and get a charcoal tablet. NOT THE ONES FOR BARBECUE!! INCENSE BURNING CHARCOAL TABLETS. LIGHT THE TABLET UNTIL IT GETS KINDA REDISH GREYISH ON THE SIDES. THEN TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF THE INCENSE AND PLACE IT ON THE TABLET. it should burn for about an hour or so. i suggest throwing sum sand in your burner, cause the tablets can make the burner REALLY hot...blessed be )o(

  • i'm very happy for you you seem like a good guy blessed be

  • cool iv got that wand it came in a book with some sands and those feathers that you have on it , yayayayy

    blessed be )O(

  • craftywytch has a video on how to do powder. You buy those charcoal tablets and put the powder in it, then light it on fire. :D

  • Really? That's awesome! I looked over her videos (so many! O_O) but I couldn't see one about charcoal and powder. Could you point me in the right direction? ^_^

    Ra,

  • It's Protection Incense Demo. It's her 3rd video so I'm not surprised you didn't find it.

  • i have the same athame. love it

  • Very nice! First time I have ever seen a compass on an altar. I sometimes mess up my directions so a compass may be a good idea.

I thought the cookies were a cute addition to the altar...

Nice to see at least one hand-made item, (the cloth) on your altar.

  • Thank you. However, my pentacle's hand-made too. :)

    Ra,

  • You have cookies on your altar =P That's awesome!

  • nice:)

  • i couldnt find any black candles or most of this stuff. It looks great by the way. blessed be

  • You don't need black candles or 'any' of this stuff for that matter. These tools aren't 'mandatory' and they don't possess any special powers. Their sole purpose is to 'aid' the Witch in his/her rituals. The same things can be done with an index finger or simple kitchen knife or whatever else that works. Don't feel like you have to have certain things in order to worship Deity.

  • Lovely altar. I'm still gathering my items, and I hope mine turns out as good as this. :]

  • Loved it!!

  • In what direction do you set up your altar? North or East?

  • Some traditions say you should face East b/c that's where the Sun rises from, however other traditions prefer North. I personally face East.

  • Love it! I think it is Isis. I wish I still had my altar.

  • Beautiful altar! One day as soon as I complete my altar, I will video tape it and post it on my channel. Blessed Be!

  • nice altar dude. blessed be.

  • i love how you made your pentacle very creative and beautiful!

  • Wonderful altar! 5 stars!

  • you burn the powers and coarser items by heating coal and then place it upon sand and sprinkle you power(etc.) on top of the burning coal

  • you can usually get self burning coal tablets from any store that sells insence, you just heat it and it catches and burns until its gone

  • "Technically" speaking, on paper I'm American since I was born in Texas. However, my father was Turkish, so I grew up there until I was 12 yrs old. I returned to the states after that, and had to learn English as a second language; hence my accent. :)

  • Your altar is beautiful. I love your pentacle that created, that is beautiful as well. This must mean a lot to you.

    Blessed Be.

  • Thank you for sharing with us your beautiful Altar. What I thought was so special was the tools that you created. The Pentacle is just beautiful and your embroidery is very nice. It must be very sentimental to you.

    Brightest Blessings

  • check out craftywytch for incense and pagan help )O(

  • Thanks a lot, I will remember to do that!

  • oh also yes that is isis

  • You mentioned not knowing about the powdered incense? Basically you can buy powdered incense or you can make it yourself by crushing herbs and resins, then you light a charcoal disk (it sparks so be careful) and place it inside the burner, then once the disk turns red, sprinkle a bit of the crushed herb mixture onto it and it will smoke. A lot... XD

    Hope that helps!

  • Thanks so much for the tip, I'll give it a go and see how it works out! :)

  • I think it is a good idea to put sand in the bottom and thten put the charcoal disk on totp, this way it insulates whatever you are using ( like your censor) from getting too hot.

  • Your altar is beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us. I especially love your handmade details, such as the clay pentacle and embroidered altar cloth. There is something very special about the loving energy in ritual items that have been created by your own hands. Blessed be!

  • Thank you very much for your kind comment. :) I'm flattered. ^_^ I wish I had more time to make other videos, I had planned on making a video of one of my rituals, but I've been preoccupied with my education, so haven't had time to deal with proper lighting and camera angle etc lol. Anyway, look for other videos from me soon! ^_^

  • You are most welcome. I subscribed to your channel, so it will alert me whenever you post new videos. I look forward to seeing more :)

  • I love thrift shops wow so much awesome shit lol.

  • i am studing to be a wiccan and i personaly think your altar is the shit man 2 thumbs up!

  • Thanks so much, just to let you know, it certainly didn't start out looking like this, I made it what it currently is over-time by purchasing and being gifted the items. My very first altar had two candles, a very plain athame, a large sea shell for the goddess, and a piece of a deer's antler for the god.

  • yeah i am thinking about maybe being an altar set after studing wicca alot longer, i have been studying very hard for about 3 months but i still think i should study more and by the time i initate my self as a solitary i am going to have studied for at least a year and day just like the early wiccans did

  • That's a very good idea. I myself studied for 2 years by reading up on all sorts of information and attending local Wiccan study groups, until I felt confident enough in my knowledge to get initiated into the Craft.

  • Great vid, SGR! Ya, you have the same athame as my wife. Hope to see more vids from you. We're still waiting for our God figure to arrive in the mail. As soon as we get it and have His shrine put together, we'll post a new vid. Thanks for stopping by and nice to know you!

  • isnt an athame supposed to be black?

  • The type of knife you use is a matter of choice. Traditionally, it should be a knife with a straight, double-edged blade. Since it's a tool and not a weapon, it doesn't have to be sharp. The blade is usually metal (steel, iron, brass, copper) but it could be stone (flint is an interesting choice), bone, wood or whatever. The handle should be of natural material, such as wood, steel or bone, rather than plastic or anything synthetic. (contn'd..)
