Eating disorders are a symptom of much more deep seeded problems. They are a cry for help and a slow form of suicide. Very complex but the need for therapy is crucial, done by professionals NOT FAMILIES. Disorders become a form of control and an addiction. Like addicts they will try to control everything and lie.

@JuditWeegar I completely agree with you. I've suffered from Anorexia and I'm okay when I'm eating eating the food, it's the guilt afterwards that's the hard part. Doctors just think that anorexics dread mealtimes

When she was taking the butter off the toast, I'd do that, too. Butter is nasty. Also, I would have just foregone the toast all together. Save the bread for your next meal, and use it for a sandwich. Eating after you finish eating just doesn't make sense. eating small meals all through the day is more healthy, and would probably make her feel less stressed at meal times. :|

Doctors need to understand that it's not allways the eating part that anorexics are afraid of, actually you can feel happy at the moment when you are eating, it's the feeling of having food in your stomach.

As a anorexic you are still hungry and likes the taste of food, but you can't allow yourself to eat because that would mean the same as allowing yourself to become fat. Many doctors do not understand that a part of the pain is to be hungry all the time, but not be able to eat.

I remember, this was sent in TV when I was about 10 or something. And I was at my friend's house, so I couldn't watch it. And the days after that, I thought a lot about this documentary, and I wished that I could see it somewhere. But I didn't know the name of it. Now, I am 18, and I was just surfing around on Youtube, and I saw a bit of this, and when she sits in the kitchen and rubs the butter off the toast, I remembered :) It's a good documentary about anorexia. I'm glad she's better now.

Vicky looks good, though she would look gorgeous at 115 pounds, not the 127 they suggest. As she has a small frame & bones. Not everyone is met to be to be at the weight of the BMI chart, since that chart doesn't calculate/ include bone structure & body frame, not to mention muscles. My man would look ugly at 136 (BMI recommendation) because he is thick boned. I would love to be at 100 pounds, but that's because I have a small frame & bones. 20 pound overweight is extremely noticeable on me.

@LadyBludgeon The BMI chart over-exaggerates what humans should weight... without any consideration of the persons' heritage & body/ bone structure. Just as there are overweight people whose bodies are comfortable being overweight, there are some peoples' bodies that are comfortable being underweight. I have a cousin who is extremely underweight, but he can't gain weight. Anyone would diagnose him as having an ED, but he doesn't (he's eats like a pig). Society judges so harshly on both ends.

In addition, hormones control your will at a very basic level. Just like your heartbeat, you cannot take full control of it by using your mind. The beast inside of us and our mind are 2 separate entities.

For instance, when meeting new people, we like to shake hands. Why? Because the beast inside doesn't trust the other person by default. The beast communicates this by making our mind feel uneasy. By a tender touch like the shaking of hands you let if feel that it's OK.

@cheristina Ever read psychology? I don't think so. Anorexia is a mental illness, an anxiety disorder. Just like a person with OCD cannot simply get over it, anorexics that are too entrenched into their illness cannot even see that they need help. Especially since their brain is starving. You don't need to understand them, but you do need to respect them because they didn't choose to end up in this hell - it's simply their brain's way of coping with life, like others over-eat, or go partying.

One of the symptoms of anorexia is extreme weight loss which can occur in a short amount of time. Just because you are 183 cm and 53 kg doesn't mean you're anorexic, However, if you have thoughts that stop you from functioning normally then maybe, Its much more about the psychological hold not just the physical. Its why its called a psyche disorder.
