Noch ein kleiner Fehler: der Typ C wurde nicht in Zwickau gefertigt, sondern in Chemnitz, in den einstigen Wanderer-Werken.

Da hat sich doch tatsächlich er Fehlerteufel eingeschlichen! Der 12 (Typ D) und der 16 Zylindermotor hat drei Nockenwellen. Auf jeder Zylinderbank eine für die Auslaßventile und eine zwischen den Zylinderbänken eine, die über kurze Sößelstangen die Einlaßventile steuert.

Ein geiles Teil! Schade das ich in Zwickau zu spät kam, dort fuhr er gestern (100 Jahre Audi). Naja, jedenfalls habe ich die Traditionsfahrt gesehen, selbst das war schon Gänsehaut pur, bei den Sounds von Audis, Horchs, DKWs und von den Wanderern!

Ich hab vor Jahren mal den "Riga" Bergrennwagen auf der LA Auto Show gesehen. Selbst auf Stand wusste kaum einer was fuer ein Juwel da geparkt war.

Amazing car!! What really amazes me, is the performance they achieved in 1937. Not to mention the madmen that used to drive these beasts at 200 + miles an hour!! There is next to no saftey features in these cars, And the tires they used, That's just heroic to drive this car the way they did!

Just imagine how these cars would have performed in the 1930s with today's tires!

As a former race driver I cannot imagine how the 1930s drivers were able to control 500-600 horsepower with 6" wide tires.

I know Rudi Caracciola was a Mercedes Benz driver, but do you know if he ever had a chance to test drive the Auto Union cars?

Especially the Type C cars.

IMHO, Caracciola and Rosemeyer where the greatest, consistently winning drivers of the Silver Arrows.

@CaliforniaBob The original Type A cars had 295 Hp from 4.3 liter supercharged V-16's. Only with the 1936 6 liter engine did you get 520 Hp. The engines were designed for torque at low RPM. Those V-16's are the coolest motors I've ever seen...
