I dont know if anyone else sees it, but when Diana is singing Somewhere, it is VERY CLEAR she has that "it" factor and a stage presence like no one else. She was destined to be a star.
Florence & Mary's harmonies were tight. Wow looking at this I see 3 gorgeous women but Florence & Mary were the prettiest! Diana was a chameleon like most models of today. You can tell she wanted it more. That mousy sound that Diana used on these records were indicative of the sound of that era so it made sense that they featured her the most but I wish Florence & Mary could have been featured more. :-(

Most of them are the same people, but under different user names. Like you, I simply enjoy the music which is classic and timeless. They were the perfect blend of talent.
This was MAGIC !!! There will never be another female group like The Supremes.I've been reading the comments some true some not true.Notwithstanding, people keep forgetting they with Diana as lead singer(and Motown) "kicked in " and did open a lot of doors for many minority entertainers .This was nearly fifty years ago back in the 60's when minorities " were kept in their place". Perhaps we should sit back and enjoy the music of these beautiful songbirds and be thankful God sent them here :)

The story of the Supremes and Barry Gordy will be hashed and rehashed forever. The thngs that took place, and have taken place are not really that uncommon among a group of people like this, in this situation, with this kind of money and ego involved. Gordy ripped the girls off. Diana has this "star" issue. Flo had serious emotional issues. Mary was by far the hottest and just milked it. There is a video on here where Mary says so, nothing to hide. She knew she didn't have a super voice.

Flo is believed to have had a mental disorder. How is it that people can say that she was lazy? When it was not anybodies fault what happened with her because they did not know! Not Flo, not Mary, not Diana, and not Berry. Back then they just didn't know. I am pretty sure Flo would have had it different in this day and age because of what we know about mental illness.

All would have benefited from occasional time off. Berry Gordy is the culprit and had the chance to correct it, but refused. even to this day, he could help.

@bigbear39ca She would have been a success without him. She had a strong work ethic before she met BG. It was just a matter of timing and being in the right place at the right time. It had more to do with her and the right combination of songs and production that elevated her rather than BG himself. From what I have read she was the Michael Jordan of the music industry; very competitive and had a solid work ethic. That's not to say Flo didn't, but that Ross was a HARDER worker than she.

I read how he called Diana lazy on a few occasions in public, and he never told the girls what great jobs they were doing. BG was a tyrant of sorts, especially toward the girl groups. He pretty much left the men alone and let them do their thing and even let them handle their own money. It's said that he was a chauvinist. Don't know if that's the truth.

The reason I stopped arguing is that Flo didn't have much negative to say about Diana, so what sense does it make to put Diana down. I actually love Diana's music. Diana's record sales speak for themselves. Sex and relationships can't sell albums; talent does. If any real Supremes fan can understand this then we could get along and have intelligent disagreements.
@bigbear39ca Diana already knew where she wanted to go even as a Primette. Even Gladys Horton of the Marvelettes acknowledged this. She was ambitious and went for what she was after. Flo knew what Diana wanted, and she never put her down for it. Flo never had a problem with Diana. She even called Diana up a week before she died just to see how she was doing. Flo even considered Diana a better friend than Mary. I wish people could see that instead of going back and forth on who was greater.

I wouldn't go around putting down an artist because I don't like their style. Diana can sing but I prefer Wanda Rogers voice. Not that I don't like Diana, but I just like Wanda's voice more. I agree, people shouldn't put down one artist at the expense of inflating another. The Marvelettes never got their props unfortunately.

Diana went through rehab and is good now, having worked all 12 steps of AA. Mary, who's youngest son died in an accident while she was driving high on coke and pot, hasnt gone through rehab yet and goes through several bottles of champagne at night which is why shes so fat.

I'm sorry but I got say it. Diana Ross is the ugly toad amongst two princesses. Florence an Mary are rather attractive with great figures and have a great stage presence. But Diana Ross is skinny as a scarecrow with a big mouth (in more ways than one) and appears rather awkward on stage. But when you're banging the boss, I guess you get the star billing, no matter how substandard your talent is or how unattractive you are. Plus what Gordy and Ross did to Florence is still appalling to this day.

She had a great sense of humor, playful/naughty personality and had tons of charisma in performances and in interviews. The problem is, Berry stopped allowing her to speak because he had a Solo Diana agenda to push. Everyone knows Flo got way more love from live audiences than Diana.

Florence & Mary's harmonies were tight. Wow looking at this I see 3 gorgeous women but Florence & Mary were the prettiest! Diana was a chameleon like most models of today. You can tell she wanted it more. That mousy sound that Diana used on these records were indicative of the sound of that era so it made sense that they featured her the most but I wish Florence & Mary could have been featured more. :-(

There will never be another female group like The Supremes.I've been reading the comments some true some not true.Notwithstanding, people keep forgetting they with Diana as lead singer(and Motown) "kicked in " and did open a lot of doors for many minority entertainers .This was nearly fifty years ago back in the 60's when minorities " were kept in their place". Perhaps we should sit back and enjoy the music of these beautiful songbirds and be thankful God sent them here :)

The story of the Supremes and Barry Gordy will be hashed and rehashed forever. The thngs that took place, and have taken place are not really that uncommon among a group of people like this, in this situation, with this kind of money and ego involved. Gordy ripped the girls off. Diana has this "star" issue. Flo had serious emotional issues. Mary was by far the hottest and just milked it. There is a video on here where Mary says so, nothing to hide. She knew she didn't have a super voice.

@Militarymight101 Berry Gordy & Motowns contracts were fairly standard for the 60's, The difference was they were really not "Recording Contracts", They were actually "Management Contacts", seen by many as a conflict of Interest by some artists, (Motown Negotiating with Motown), Royalty rates were 3% of the Whole sale price of each record ( 1 % per Supreme ) , Miss Mary actually did better than everyone, she was paid royalties on anything Released under The Supremes Label

Flo is believed to have had a mental disorder. How is it that people can say that she was lazy? When it was not anybodies fault what happened with her because they did not know! Not Flo, not Mary, not Diana, and not Berry. Back then they just didn't know. I am pretty sure Flo would have had it different in this day and age because of what we know about mental illness.

@kplife2001It's very likely Flo was bi-polar. Certainly she was a depressive. Often depression occurs from traumatic events. Motown didn't care about Flo or Diana's health. She was under 100#s and scary thin, but nothing was done for either of them. There was money to be made - mostly for Motown. Mary held it together but stored resentment. All would have benefited from occasional time off. Berry Gordy is the culprit and had the chance to correct it, but refused. even to this day, he could help.

Besides, Diana said that she never felt cheated; she built her name and image in show business, and felt inclined to receive compensation based on her status.

@bigbear39ca She would have been a success without him. She had a strong work ethic before she met BG. It was just a matter of timing and being in the right place at the right time. It had more to do with her and the right combination of songs and production that elevated her rather than BG himself. From what I have read she was the Michael Jordan of the music industry; very competitive and had a solid work ethic. That's not to say Flo didn't, but that Ross was a HARDER worker than she.

@bigbear39ca She was just a paycheck to BG. He saw the dollar signs and the cha-ching of the cash register. BG worked those girls to the bone. I read how he called Diana lazy on a few occasions in public, and he never told the girls what great jobs they were doing. BG was a tyrant of sorts, especially toward the girl groups. He pretty much left the men alone and let them do their thing and even let them handle their own money. It's said that he was a chauvinist. Don't know if that's the truth.

The reason I stopped arguing is that Flo didn't have much negative to say about Diana, so what sense does it make to put Diana down. I actually love Diana's music. Diana's record sales speak for themselves. Sex and relationships can't sell albums; talent does. If any real Supremes fan can understand this then we could get along and have intelligent disagreements.

@bigbear39ca Diana already knew where she wanted to go even as a Primette. Even Gladys Horton of the Marvelettes acknowledged this. She was ambitious and went for what she was after. Flo knew what Diana wanted, and she never put her down for it. Flo never had a problem with Diana. She even called Diana up a week before she died just to see how she was doing. Flo even considered Diana a better friend than Mary. I wish people could see that instead of going back and forth on who was greater.

@bigbear39ca OK, just making sure you weren't putting my girls down. Music is a matter of personal taste I believe. What one likes, another may not. I wouldn't go around putting down an artist because I don't like their style. Diana can sing but I prefer Wanda Rogers voice. Not that I don't like Diana, but I just like Wanda's voice more. I agree, people shouldn't put down one artist at the expense of inflating another. The Marvelettes never got their props unfortunately.

Yes, The Supremes were popular thanks to BG putting all of Motowns marketing power behind them, but the Marvelettes were great. The Supremes at one point wanted to be the Marvelettes.

Diana went through rehab and is good now, having worked all 12 steps of AA. Mary, who's youngest son died in an accident while she was driving high on coke and pot, hasnt gone through rehab yet and goes through several bottles of champagne at night which is why shes so fat.

I'm sorry but I got say it. Diana Ross is the ugly toad amongst two princesses. Florence an Mary are rather attractive with great figures and have a great stage presence. But Diana Ross is skinny as a scarecrow with a big mouth (in more ways than one) and appears rather awkward on stage. But when you're banging the boss, I guess you get the star billing, no matter how substandard your talent is or how unattractive you are. Plus what Gordy and Ross did to Florence is still appalling to this day.

Clearly Diana won the competition and charisma game, whether she was sleeping with Berry or not. Diana had the whole package, where the other two or three fell flat. All you have to do is look at The Supremes tv and stage performances and tell me which woman you'd rather watch. Mary always looked like she was on downers. Flo looked aloof

She had a great sense of humor, playful/naughty personality and had tons of charisma in performances and in interviews. The problem is, Berry stopped allowing her to speak because he had a Solo Diana agenda to push. Everyone knows Flo got way more love from live audiences than Diana.

@MiamiPush2theLimit Most people I knew liked Diana best, but also liked Flo. None preferred Mary. When I saw them at The Copa in spring 1967, Flo had dialog several times and got laughs. She was never not allowed to speak. My Aunt and Uncle took to see them at the Copa 4 times and Flo always spoke. It was Mary who was jealous of Flo and backstabbed her out of the group so she could be the star of the background. she knew diana, being the lead, was unstoppable but Flo could be gotten rid of.
