He's speaking English, you just have to listen carefully. Basically he's saying the inspiration of the Daft Punk video is from a song from the 70's called "Good Times" by Le Chic. When Gondry was younger and heard the Le Chic song he imagined people running up and down stairs. Each of the groups of people running up and down the stairs in the Daft Punk video represent a rhythm in the song. Some are the hook, some are the baseline, etc...

He keeps saying "drumbox," whatever that is, so I think DRUMB is an abbreviation of the word drumbox. He does abbreviate the word "keyboard" to KEYB.... I agree it's a little weird, but he started out as a drummer, so I've got to assume he knows how to spell it.
