for those who would like to play like JB, i mean same sound: forget about the pick! Pick with your fingers!!! You need to feel the sound being born under your fingertips! I'm pretty sure JB have a great sound even on an unplugged smashed string-lacking shitty guitar.
1-Hendrix 2-Jeff Beck 3-Eric Clapton 4-Jimmy Page 5 Santana 6-Gilmour 7-Van Halen 8-Frank Zappa 9-Benson 10-Michael Landau 11-Lukather 12-Larry Carlton 1-Steve Ray. These are part of a select group of angels guitar.
@musinelli Rory Gallagher is miles better than Clapton & Page. Even Hendrix when once asked what does it feel like to be the best guitar player, replied i don"t know you"ll have to ask Rory!
@dan32113 ' miles better ' huh ? Doesnt that depend on what one likes to hear ? As soon as you leave a comment like that , your credibility is gone .' Van Gogh is 'miles better than Picasso ! That depends on what one likes to look at . Art is not a contest
Fucking hell. One note from Beck = 8 thousand million notes from every other fucker. The guy is just an amazing guitar player. Takes a real guitarist who can play one note and take you somewhere. Not some jerkoff playing a million arpeggios, trying to have a cock off against everyone!
I was a big Beck fan in the 80s and I lost touch, because of Youtube I found him again and the man seems to have gotten better and better. How is this possible? It's unheard of! It's also inspiring too.
Lots of great comments on this one.......must say been a fan for years but never realised what hewa all about until I caught him live last year....I have been playing guitar for a while and it still leaves me awestruck in how he uses his technique to the max and gets some great sounds from the way he plays....he really is a great guitarist and he also proves that it's not all about how fast you can play......some of the best guitar players don't need to!
I've tried both steel & glass slide bottle to play Nadia. Glass has less harmonics and more of sucking onto strings type of a feel. It's just a matter of feel. Sound wise, they don't produce that obvious difference.
JEFF BECK is way beyond the average persons concept of a guitarist .... what I like are the expressions on these peoples faces when they first see him play and how Jeff really expresses his thoughts and feelings through his guitar like no one else in our solar system
This is PRICELESS. I've always loved this piece, and I've always wanted to see Beck rehearse, if only to confirm that he can extort those amazing sounds from his guitar at will even in a practice setting (which, on the evidence above, it appears that he can). He really is irreplaceable.
@rapidtranq AMEN....what Jeff Beck does with a guitar is insanely perfect. it's so intense and perfect. it defies words....ahhhh. short but great video.
If you look at what Jeff Beck accomplished on guitar before he even joined the Yardbirds, and add to that 45 years of supreme, constantly evolving and experimental playing, then he can only be absolutely mindblowing
This is so sweet... Not enough good things can be said about Beck, although the comments I've read on this page are all outstanding! What are the chords he says? Dmaj7 G# and G??
Beck gets great sounds and tones at low levels. If you've seen him live then you know it only gets better. Compare this to the shred heads who have to crank every setting on their amp and they still get a mediocre tone.
@bowiemott It sounds like that, but I wonder what the amp is set on. I'm beginning to think you have to crank the amp, but really be cautious with the guitar volume knob, but the rewards, as can be heard, are great!
@xpaddy01 There is a web site called something like dinosaur rock dot com that has very detailed information on many of the classic rock players including Jeff Beck. Check it out for a breakdown of his gear and approach. And yes he obviously turns up the amp more for live performances but works the volume knob on the guitar. His sense of dynamics and ability to milk a note and nuance it is unique. Look at the Ronnie Scott shows here on youtube to get a taste.
@xpaddy01 brilliant..i feel u are correct I only discovered this last year..I am 40 and been playing forever..one day while jamming with frinds I cranked a little fender amp almost to 10 and lowered my guitar volume..and it sounded amazing and then when it was my turn to solo..just by bringing the guitar to max it was like wow!! everyone was wondering where did all that sound come from..lesson larned get a great tube amp..just a few effects and CRANK THE SUCKER and use your strats or Les volume
I've been playing for 11 years & every time i see Jeff Beck i feel like giving up..
He always manages to coax such a unique sound out of the instrument & without using any effects he can go from sitar to trumpet like sounds in an instant..
Jeff Beck is awesomeness personified. He has never stopped developping his sound, style and skills. To me he is inspiration like nothing and nobody else.
I guess about a year ago I came to the conclusion that Jeff is the best guitarist in the world. His playing is simply in another universe than anyone else's.

@dan32113 Jimi was also very gracious with other players. He also said the late Terry Kath of the group Chicago was better than he was.
