@msvideogame I was speaking purely statistically. When it comes to serious competitive play, there's no reason for any Soldier to ever have their Shovel equipped. Pubbing with it is fine; whatever generates the most fun for you.

Not really.

It does less damage when at full health and medics can't heal you and its often to late for medics if you are burning and bleeding cause switch weapons with soldier takes long.

@KingBrookfield Wrong. Google it. No competitive Soldier uses the Shovel because the Equalizer is a direct upgrade and the pros of the Equalizer outweigh the cons 10:1.

The shovel and the bottle are sadly not used as much. It is most saddening because of the fact that they both were really good melee weapons.

Ode to the Soup Ladle. Shovel backhand is my favorite crit animation. And only real rib eating, intestine stuffing soldiers use it.

the reason shovel is bad is the fact that the soldier is slow as shit.

they can just outrange you and kill you.

the shotgun and pistol are so underrated tho. i hate people complaining when they get a pistol or shotgun in a randomizer server @_@

they do shitload of damage and work well at almost any range.

well, thanks to the brand new Equalizer the shovel is pretty useless now. why use a shovel when you can use a kick ass mining pick that does the same damage when you're at full and does more and more as you get lower in life? as well as makes you move faster? RIP shovel, we loved you, but we wont miss you.

Shovel has longer range than the equalizer, meaning it puts you on equal terms with W+M1 Demomen and allows you smack the crap out of any soldier stupid enough to try and equalize you.

@Cordman1221 w+m1 demoman? right, that would be a bit difficult as he only has 4 grenades and 8 stickys. also the chance of a "w+m1 demomen" kill you is small, unless your stupid enought to stand infront of him.

@MrDeepFriedOnion i know, but if you're low its much better, and if you need to make a quick getaway with it when in a bad spot it works wonders as well. i prefer it to the shovel, but in the end i rarely use them over the rocket launcher or shotgun lol.

I always killl all my enemies, compression blast pyros, reloading soldiers, scouts, and targe demomen thnik they are safe cause they think im just gonna spam rockets, but I just end up shooting them. I never understood why you wouldnt use the shotgun.

lol I never get kills with the shovel, I just feel a HUGE rocket launcher and a shotgun is more powerful and effective :P
