  • I remember this when I was fourteen! He didn't come back!

  • no dislikes this proves how good paul weller is !!!

  • i love this song pure sweet ...top man paul weller

  • Weller deliberately omitted this from the track listing on "All Mod Cons" as he felt embarrassed by it....he wrote it in America about how much he missed his then girlfriend!....I think 33 years later...he probably has nothing to feel embarrassed about or reproach himself for!...An absolute triumph....and played brilliantly here!

  • I love everything about this

  • British by birth, English by the grace of God.

  • British by birth, English by the grace of God.

  • love this song one ov his better ones sounds great live

  • Fuck off Weller. You fucking gorgeous genius. :-)

  • it,s about England,simple as,no girl.

  • beautiful song, simply beautiful.

  • ‫‫☸~ڰۣ—

  • Timeless artistry, stored digitally for as long as computers exist.

I hate conformist internet language, but this is epic, an epic win. fucking majestic weller.

  • @mynameisloader I've seen Gil scott heron and brian wilson live, metallica at reading and some amazing football by arsenal, but to say I had been there, with the comedic fuck up at the beginning, I would happy give my disappointing testicles.

  • WOW just fucking WOW

  • This man made the most exciting music I'd ever heard in my youth, and now he's making it slightly less uncool to be middle aged. Thanks Paul. You're definitely the Ace Face.

  • The guy who shouted "cock" at about 0:30 must have felt like a right tiny prick when the crowd went crazy at the end.

  • Fantastic. Takes me right back.

  • wonderful bloody wonderful ...

  • Talk about nailed it

  • This song absolutely epitomizes true love; nothing, no one and nowhere could keep Paul from his English Rose. Speak on Mr. Weller!!!

  • awsome just awsome look how blown away everyone is,what a song paul ur a legned!! long live the mod father.

  • I don't care what anyone says; this is THE greatest love song, ever written.

  • @defpoet28 i agree with you its just awsome

  • @defpoet28 One of them, without a doubt, but, not even I'm sure it's the greatest even though it is my song to my girlfriend

  • @angelusgabrielus1982 I assure you, my friend, of the many great love songs I've heard, over the years, this track, no matter HOW many times I hear it, never fails to make my heart swell as a huge smile forms on my face. It always makes me think of the lady I would love settle down with (a British lady, naturally).

  • @defpoet28 You mean an english lady?

  • @curran1981 Same difference.

  • @defpoet28 Sorry, just being a dick

  • @curran1981 Why exactly?

  • @defpoet28 Yeah, this is lovely song. Also, listen to some Dylan, Love Minus Zero, better poetic lyrics (not as cliched as English Rose), "my love she speaks like silence/without ideals or violence......she knows too much to argue or to judge......she knows there's no success like failure/and that failure's no success at all".

  • @THthefirst Thanks for the comment. I'm actually not a fan of Dylan. I'll definitely check out Love Minus Zero (never heard of them until now). As for the lyrics to "English Rose," I don't think of them as cliched at all. Just very, very romantic.

  • @defpoet28 He,s singing about England,not a girl.

  • @defpoet28 you're right about that man :P

    greetings & respect JJ

  • @defpoet28 Too late my dear fellow. I married the most beautiful English Rose last year. However, like you, this song too has made me cry since the first time I heard it.

  • @harrisonaard1 Congratulations to you. However, I know my Rose is out there :)

  • @defpoet28 She surely is. Happy hunting.

  • I live reluctantly in Australia and Im soo very homesick - I have this song on my mobile - every time someone calls me - I think of going back to my England Rose - my 'Home'!! There is no better song!!!

  • @naughtywatson I wholeheartedly concur!!!!

  • Okay, this time without penalties ;-).

  • @dan32113: sorry mate, I'm actually german, but I'm sure the three lions will get back pretty soon to their English Rose ;-). See ya in the penalty shoot out! SCNR

  • So very, very, very, very, very beautiful:)

  • It was actually on the "All Mod cons" album, but not explicitly mentioned on the sleeve. Weller felt a little embarrased, the shy 19 year old he was, to commit such emotions.

The song is just fucking amazing, the definitive goose pimples song!

  • @nidst imagine the England world cup team singing this at the world cup! It should be our national anthem!

  • @nidst

Absolutely bang on, with your goose pimples sentiment. This song is absolutely brilliant and perfect.

  • it's like I just realized or understood what songwriting is really all about - listening to this song - thank you

  • One of my favorite songs ever!

  • A brilliant song, I think was a B side to one of the Jam's singles, which was rather different to what they did.

I never found it on a studio album but always loved it - This version is even better re: The "cock

    e up"!

  • Simply awesome!!!

  • Fantastic stuff!

    Love it.

  • wicked song

  • awsome

  • mutha uking brill.
