Epictetus is one of my favorites. I've been carrying around my Stoics book lately, reading passages from him and Marcus Aurelius. M.A. is great, but there's something about Epictetus that is even more stark, more clear (though Epictetus does have a bit more religious stuff which either needs to be excised or processed on a metaphorical level.)
Epictetus is a great philosopher to start with - he's very accessible. A lot of what he has to say sounds suspiciously like common sense.
Good! Here are a few of my own: "The way to a man's heart is through his rib cage." "Lack of rank has its privileges." And my mother's: "The only reason things are cruel is because they are either partially or completely true." My spouse says, "Once a victim, always a victim."

I like Russell better. Who said he starts off with simple truth and draws outrageous conclusions (I think I am right.)

Is that your simple rule or your outrageous conclusion ¦:¬) ?

Many things he say is simple, true, and needs to be said once in a while, so that one doesn't forget it.

Epictetus is my favorite philosopher - easy to read and understand - and there's not a whole lot that has survived ;‹D
Thank you, Adrian, for taking good notes.
And thank YOU, 2b!
