@live4rock10 Personally, I think trying really hard to not sound like anything else is retarded. Typically, bands should focus on making good music and not entirely on being 100% super unique and unlike anything else. Octahedron is my favourite Mars Volta album (blasphemy, I know) but I love it because it's so melodic and easy to listen to, not a single dull moment on there for me.
@mkmkk I think yes, suddenly I thought about name of this band and about The Marsella Tarot too. That Tarot is used by Alejandro Jodorowsky and I found this message on name. If you play a little with words results The Mars Volta//The Marsella Tarot.
And I love to The mars volta, and I love The Marsella Tarot and Alejandro Jodorowsky too.

I dont know if its because they have a lot more access to high end studios, or if its cause Thomas Pridgen (as godlike as he is) doesnt know the meaning of the word dynamics, but these later albums dont have as good a sound as De-Loused. And can you say overcompressed? I would have expected Omar to have not allowed all that filthy compression in his recordings. Maybe thats what hes going for, but IMO compression is one of the worst things about modern music.
i used to think like "all mars volta albums are fudgin masterpieces, this is just another masterpiece" then i kind of realized that if you pay attention to each individual sound and instrument in albums like bedlam in goliath, its a lot of random noise that doesnt sound good together at all, and on deloused there were like no guitar notes in key, but octahedron is still an amazingly sophisticated masterpiece, and now my favorite mars volta album so far
No matter how much better Thomas Pridgen is on drums than Jon T, it just does not work for me at all in Mars Volta. De-loused and Frances was by far the best records!
Comatorium was an absolutely amazing album, it was my favorite album at the time...but this album is great i love hearing thier catchy abstract riffs and drum beats...not to mention that damn voice...its beautiful THIS ALBUM IS AWESOME!!! I LOVE IT!!!!
uh nah, if you listen to it fully you will understand it it's different to bedlam there was only about 6 or 7 tracks that were good eg. llyena, aspekios, wax simulacra, torquinet man, goliath and some others. octahedron is a breakthrough for the mars volta my second favorite after de-loused bedal comes about fourth for me
@joshingledew Amputechture all from beginning to end is Mars Volta's masterpiece. for a frequent Mars Volta listener Ocaherdron sounds very quiet, and organic. whereas De-loused sounds very bombastic and melodic .i.e (off notes)
@magicbag6790 "melodic" and "off notes" are complete opposites. If you want to describe something with "off notes", it is dissonant, and in some cases atonal.
They haven't been the same since de-loused....glad that ATDI is coming back

This is like when Omar says "Rick Rubin ruined Deloused", this record could have been a lot better without reducing it to a verse chorus format

True, Comatorium was the best and this album was the worst so far. Not bad, just the worst.
Definitely not as good as Bedlam.

Agreed, I think they've gone progressively down hill with every album. Deloused was brilliant and the best by far

so "acoustic" means little or no high singing and less complexity and notes. Reduce your sound and mak it more acoustic. I say. I hate Korn and corn.
