I see why Prince loved to pattern his band after James!! But back then there was only one muthafucka that was BAD and his name was James!! There was NO ONE, repeat...NO ONE that was funk! This man invented and started this type of music. Pryor to him there was no one. Prince, Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, Cameo, Confunkshun, Sly Stone, Ohio Players, EWF, Zapp, and all of those bands got their music from James. The Rap game came after Roger and George Clinton. It ALL started with James.
@PaulIDA2000: I should have known you were a dumb Yank. Go and educate yourself on James Brown's life and you'll find out about his dabblings with drugs (ie: Angel Dust, also known as PCP in jargon). Trust me, there's more to music than a fat bastard, reactionary Elvis. And by the way, what does 'TCB' stand for? Cheeseburgers by any chance?
@pteeng1 - Listen asshole, if you ever disrespected James Brown in front of me like that I would kick the living shit out of you. Get it fuck face? Yes he had some demons, but who the hell are you you pathetic fucking piece of shit to disparage such a great talent? Go fuck yourself you fucking jerk off.
In the concert video this is his first song, but he also he sings not one but two encores of this song!! And he does a super fast spin and split during the 1st encore and a double spin, two splts and one push up and split in the 2nd encore, reminiscent of the T.A.M.I. Show at age 46!!!
The best live version of 'It's Too Funky In Here' ever recorded! This is the only time I have seen this song where he went to the bridge that many times and this is before the song became more formulmatic on stage.
james brown, you are too funky not just in there but every place he performed at. You haven't seen a performance until you see one of his. My sister took me to see him at the Royal on Penn. Ave in west baltimore and that place was sooooooo damn funky it was making history. Sorry you young shorties can't see him do his thing but the best next thing to being there is to watch a youtube clip and pump of the volume and imagine it to the 45th power. Best I can tell y'all. got to live it to know.
Yeah, the bass isn't turned up. I'm sure that's what they were thinking 30 years ago. The technology was so advanced in 1979, what were they thinking? I'm pretty pissed when I play this on my 7.1 surround system! It sounds totally, like, like, stereo. WTF!! You have JB dancing and showing off his moves! That's the best part of his videos...get a life Terry and patk.
Hey friends james was just a few years under 50 I think he was 48 years old in this. and his Body weight is much heavier than Michael jackson's. Michael Jackson is the KiNG OF POP. james is the Original Show man #1
4:40 - 4:42 totally scary. That's some sick shit! You'll NEVER see that again from anyone - maybe not even an acrobat. He went down hard and bounced right back up.
Just think, James Brown was considered to be "washed up" in 1979. This video speaks volumes. Sometimes, I really hate music critics. James is dancing faster and more dangerous than ever in this period!
The problem of America is that once something new comes something older is immediately forgotten because somebody new is pushing to make the money and get all the audience possible. BUT The history will show how is the boss and not a one season opening act. James Brown is a king and will last forever ! Thank you
I totally agree. I really have grown to love his late 70s/early 80s stuff, despite his fall in the charts during that period. His chart fall did not reflect a fall in quality or artistic power; it just reflected a change in American tastes. James will always be #1, even if some radio stations turned away from him from a while. The real irony is that "popular" R/B at this time just softened up his harcore funk for commercial success. James' critics didn't know what they were talking about!
hey, thanks for the post!

A kind of re-invented Disco-Soul JB - a great period in his career, 1978 to 1983.
This was a real "comeback" hit. Saw a great live version at the Lone Star in Greenwich Village, New York, March, 1980.

By the way, this version is much better than the recorded version, which was done with a cookie-cutter studio band, not JB's road veterans.
