I see why Prince loved to pattern his band after James!! But back then there was only one muthafucka that was BAD and his name was James!! There was NO ONE, repeat...NO ONE that was funk! This man invented and started this type of music. Pryor to him there was no one. Prince, Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, Cameo, Confunkshun, Sly Stone, Ohio Players, EWF, Zapp, and all of those bands got their music from James. The Rap game came after Roger and George Clinton. It ALL started with James.

james brown, you are too funky not just in there but every place he performed at. You haven't seen a performance until you see one of his. My sister took me to see him at the Royal on Penn. Ave in west baltimore and that place was sooooooo damn funky it was making history. Sorry you young shorties can't see him do his thing but the best next thing to being there is to watch a youtube clip and pump of the volume and imagine it to the 45th power. I totally agree. I really have grown to love his late 70s/early 80s stuff, despite his fall in the charts during that period. His chart fall did not reflect a fall in quality or artistic power; it just reflected a change in American tastes. James will always be #1, even if some radio stations turned away from him from a while. The real irony is that "popular" R/B at this time just softened up his harcore funk for commercial success. James' critics didn't know what they were talking about!
