i have a much easier solution and it works for movies , pictures and music it is a program called "vuze " its well worth the download. the free version has a device playback section that allows you to drag all your files into the PS3section (xbox and any other network devices) it converts all files to the type that the platform uses takes only seconds also the full version has a really good dvd burner

This is a lot more expensive then what I did. I got a HDMI to DVI cable online for about $8 and then a 3.5mm Dual RCA at radio shack for about $6 and for shipping and handling costs I ended up spending about $25 on the HDMI to DVI. And Since I have two monitors I can have my ps3 on my external, and my laptop on the other. Think I might have saved a lil more money than this guy did. Def comes in handy during college when your roomates hog the tv all the time. =)

I meant to ask this quesiton, it's a very important one. How bad is the lag between button pushes and actual display/audio output time? Would I be better just directly hooking my ps3 through (HDMI -> DVI, RCA -> Speaker Line in) or should I go with this? If there is lag then I would rather not do this method. Thanks for the help. A little advice for the sound(and SUB WOOFER owners with audio I/O in the back) just plug the red/white cords from the PS3 into the sub woofer speakers. Doing this means you are using only the yellow cord in the USB DVR device, avoiding the low-quality sound from the USB DVR.

It's not actually connected to the computer, the PS3 is just putting it's image onto your screen... You cannot actually access the PS3's files from the PC there for not making it connected to the PC... It's just showing the image on your screen.
