People need to stop blaming the nation as a whole. Did the Japanese citizens that were mainly killed during the hiroshima/nagasaki bombing deserve it? NO. Nobody supports war. I had the privilege to visit the memorial in 2001, it's pretty amazing to see the old building and whats more amazing is how fast that city has developed since 1945. What really put thing into perspective is even though so many people were killed there in 1945 by America, the Japanese people are one of our biggest allies and friends and welcomed us into their houses and businesses with smiles and peace. A great show of history and present.
It is unfortunate that people still focus on whose fault this was instead of stopping and realising the effects of the bomb and learning from history's mistakes. Fact: Both countries did horrible things in the war. There is no point blaming each other for everything that happened in world war two.
Lets rather realise the mistakes and stop and think for a second how many innocient lives were lost in war. Neither country is better than the other.

It is so absurd and sad, to see the peace memorial & peace day in Hiroshima being used as portraying the Japanese as the major victims of WWII, but quietly skimming over WHY the bombs were dropped and ignoring that millions of lives had already been killed by the Japanese & these bombs were used to put an end to Japanese bloody Rampage through Asia from the beginning of 20th century(Japanese Colonialism) to end of WWII. At the time the bomb was dropped Japan was in a neutral state. There was famine, no planes, no war ships, barely many soilders as many had been on the ships that were blown out of the waters.

To each is own. The amount of time taken to respond to Postdam was ultimately nobody else's call but their own. They knew what we were asking in order to stop the downpour of bombs. One last thought. The fact that they wanted to try and negotiate peace after we told them at Potsdam that anything other than unconditional was unacceptable was their call. The fact that they wanted to draw it out to try and get a deal was a gamble THEY embarked upon. America's intent was to let it rain bombs until they raised the flag. Our problem was that we were running out of targets.

The problem at that time was the difficulty in negotiating with united nations. Japan tried to find the way of treaty via Soviet since Jpn-Svo neutral pact was effective. Unfortunately Soviet was interested in the Pacific Lim, disregarding some message intentionally.

Actually, there is very strong evidence to suggest that FDR let the Japanese attack. He just didn't know where. FDR was just about ready to grab onto anything to get into WWII because... well actually I don't know why he wanted to. I had the privilege to visit the memorial in 2001, it's pretty amazing to see the old building and whats more amazing is how fast that city has developed since 1945. What really put thing into perspective is even though so many people were killed there in 1945 by America, the Japanese people are one of our biggest allies and friends and welcomed us into their houses and businesses with smiles and peace. A great show of history and present.

It is unfortunate that people still focus on whose fault this was instead of stopping and realising the effects of the bomb and learning from history's mistakes. Fact: Both countries did horrible things in the war. There is no point blaming each other for everything that happened in world war two.
Lets rather realise the mistakes and stop and think for a second how many innocient lives were lost in war. Neither country is better than the other.

At the time the bomb was dropped Japan was in a neutral state. There was famine, no planes, no war ships, barely many soilders as many had been on the ships that were blown out of the waters.
The war was practically over. It was only by the ranting of their leader, their emperor, that encouraged the U.S to drop a domb. Or perhaps it was the merely out of curiousity that it was dropped. After all, it was a test.

One last thought. The fact that they wanted to try and negotiate peace after we told them at Potsdam that anything other than unconditional was unacceptable was their call. The fact that they wanted to draw it out to try and get a deal was a gamble THEY embarked upon. America's intent was to let it rain bombs until they raised the flag. Our problem was that we were running out of targets.

That simple action would saved everyone a lot of grief...Obviously history shows they didn't have the frame of mind to do that and preferred destruction. Interestingly enough, the story that never seems to get told is the horrors of the conventional fire bombings America did to Japan, which started in March of 45 and ended in August. We did more devistation than we did in four years of bombing in Europe, per the US Strategic Bombing Survey. The Japanese don't whine about it. Despise the horrible things the United States has done to Japan, they're quite friendly with the US. The Japanese are a special case, they're the only country who has ever had an atomic bomb dropped on them. The deliberate killing of civilians is a war crime. We make a point of remembering these atrocities in the hope that this will keep them from happening again. The wisdom gained from hindsight we can now use in the future, but only if we remember.

Tibbets is nothing but a cold-blooded mass-murderer and a war criminal -- anybody who kills 100,000 human beings is a mass-murderer!
They could have just dropped a bomb into Tokyo Bay, as a demonstration of power, and as a warning... but they decided to slaughter more than 100,000 civilians to use them as guinea pigs, and to study the bomb-blast
Would the Germans or Japanese have done such a thing, we would hear endless rants about what a horrific and unhuman war crime it was...

Who ever thinks this was not necessary. Please look at the killings in Nanjing and tell me there was a better solution. Japan had what was coming to them. And because of it they are a much better country now. War sucks but its going to happen.

It was definately not necessary. The Japenese could have easily been beaten. I object to the bomb being dropped but i object mostly to the fact they killed innocent civialians
A life is Priceless it can't be replaced therefore has no price.
What is the price for over 70'000 priceless things.

If the USA did not drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, our only other option was to invade a very hostile Japanese homeland who knew not to surrender.
If we wanted to collect a large death toll why would we not drop a bomb right on Tokyo? The goal of the bomb was not to cripple a country, it was to force that country into submission with the fewest casualties possible.
