  • Japan attacks the US.

2,335 soldier and 68 civilians die.

    The US attacks Japan.

    140,000 civilians die.

And the US still thinks of it as justice. Funny country.

  • @Louchan2 Japan attacks the US: Without warning and it was a cowardly attack.

US attacks Japan: Look at Operation Downfall then compare to Okinawa and invasion of Japan. Unlike the ones from Pearl Harbor, we warn Japan that if they don't surrender, then we will drop two nukes but never did. We dropped one. Never surrendered, drop another = surrender

    need i go on?

  • @Hperman09

I honestly don't care about who was more "cowardly" in their attack. My above statement still stands.

  • These two atomic bombs saved millions of lives and ended WW2

  • @claton95 yeaahhh, what a great idea it was! what a great invention!

  • You can tell the American government was just thinking this was a fun game to make things go boom. If not why would you name the bombs Big Boy, Little Boy. Totally sick.

  • are you seriously trying to make us feel bad???? you know its only that you guys destroyed half of our navy at pearl harbor, killed thousands of our men , and tortured many more, killing probably millions, and just because you lose a small fraction of your people compared to the other millions of innocent lives lost from other neibouring countries, you expect the whole world to think of US as the bad guys????.............stfu

  • Never again.

  • I pray/hope that Japan will be brave enough to have a much bigger Memorial Park for All the victims in WWII, especially victims of countries in the east Asia region! This memorial only focus on a very narrow aspect of WWII, and it is subject to misinterpretation for lessons needed to be learn! This incident of atomic bombing must be put into proper historic context for proper understanding! Thanks for listening!

  • It's not peace memorial when we tried to honour ppl who did not support peace. Japanese deserved each of every atomic bombs drop on it's soil. Americans are the truely heros and the peacemaker, we should honour all the Americans hero who died to bring peace to the world. Thank you America

  • エノラ・ゲイ機長の息子は発言自粛しろ!

  • The bomb never hit the earth it was not intended too. It was detonated at an altitude of 500 ft. Such weapons have a greater destructive force when employed in this manner. Sunny warm days also aid as well rather than days when it is raining or over cast.

  • stupid devil americans

  • PAYBACK FOR PEARL HARBOR

  • @armyinhell

Find a better video to troll, you disgusting sack of shit.

    I hope you die, painfully.

  • does any 1 know the exact postion of where the bomb made contact with earth i heard it was ment to hit the white bridge at 1:45 can any 1 help me confirm that much appreciated

  • The only reason we dropped the bomb was to end the war, if we invaded Japan, millions, not thousands like the bomb, but millions would of died.

  • General Hideki Tojo OF JAPAN ARE TO BE BLAMED FOR THE NUCLEAR BOMB, HE KILLED THE INNOCENTS JAPS, he have a choice to stop the bomb, but he chooses not too......its not like america just dropped the bomb. stupid evil General Hideki Tojo killed this innocents, this dickhead is worst then hitler....purely evil

  • They diserve every thing they got!

  • Damocles is pretty dmann accurate

  • can someone please tell me wht the arch is representing in 2:14 ????

  • Don't forget the work camps / concentration camps the US had to keeping Japanese American in USA while the the WWII was going on. Not only the nazis put people in horrible conditions. So tragic! so many mistakes!!

  • yea well atleast we didnt kill them like nazis did.

  • @wallenbergphoto Not one single Japanese American was either worked or killed in the internment camps, How dare you compare that to the mass killings the Nazi's carried out in the concentration camps Your a real dumbshit!

  • it is sad, that humans can hate so much.

    i'm sorry. :(

  • I thought it was dangerous to go to a plce for like a thousand years or what ever it is after setting off a nuke or am i wrong?

  • 9/11 is nothing compared to what US did in Japan. Years after years the affect is still there. Not only Japan but US has intervened in many other countries as well. US thinks they are right & whatever they do is right. But soon US will suffer for this. everyone knows US govt is involved in terorist conspiracy with al qaeda. All this is for OIL. Bush administration had to do a lot in 9/11. it is not possible without the inside ppl. after seeing this video i say US deserved 9/11

    Peace2All

  • Who are you to say who deserve or dont deserve it? Are you God? Shut your mouth you dont know what you say.

  • what goes round comes back around and

  • 9/11 was bad and buch had nothing to do with it either but you comi peaces of shit think he did and the nuke on japan was a LOOOONNNNNNGGGGG saying dont fuck with da USA got it or we will nuke ur ass

  • @adultGuy28 Tinfoil is good right

  • Not a memorial, its just about the present...

  • america and japan was wrong

  • "The only ones that have seen the end of war are dead." (Plato, 347 BCE), and RIP to all that died in WWII, one of the worst international wars in history.

  • This is inevitably happen again. Weve been killing each other since we first crawled out of the oceans and each generation since has found more destructive ways of doing it. Be it though an act of stupidity or by accident, someone, somewhere, will push a button and this Planet will finally and assuredly rid itself of the most deadly, self-destructive, and arrogant creatures that ever walked its surface.

  • that video was the right thing to do but still japs did not all deserve that bomb plus im not saying that they deserved it but its kinda a example for other countries not to go killing all the Americans...and if we never learned our lesson Iraq would be in shreds right now

  • People need to stop blaming the nation as a whole. Did the Japanese citizens that were mainly killed during the hiroshima/nagasaki bombing deserve it? NO. Nobody supports war. Everyone in Japan during that time hated it and was against it. Everyone was starving and living in poverty during war in Japan.

So everyone needs to stop saying oh "America deserved it... the Japanese deserve it... the Afghans deserved it..." THEIR GOVERNMENTS ARE TO BLAME. NOT THEIR CITIZENS.

  • Japan attacked America - 1942.

    America atom bombs Hiroshima+Nagasaki - 1945.

    Japan surrenders - 220,000+ dead.

    America attacks Afghanistan - 2001.

Afghanistan destroys twin towers - 2001.

    2,750 dead.

    America attacks Iraq.

    = 2008

Not long till the next attack... Not long...

    'Hums in rocking chair'

  • what about the vietnam war? what about Korea? HOW MANY DEAD?

  • I'm sorry. But I found the rocking chair thing hilarious. I can just picture it.

  • I had the privilege to visit the memorial in 2001, it's pretty amazing to see the old building and whats more amazing is how fast that city has developed since 1945. What really put thing into perspective is even though so many people were killed there in 1945 by America, the Japanese people are one of our biggest allies and friends and welcomed us into their houses and businesses with smiles and peace. A great show of history and present.

  • Drewster327 that was an awesome and very true comment. The Japanese and great people!

  • It is unfortunate that people still focus on whose fault this was instead of stopping and realising the effects of the bomb and learning from history's mistakes. Fact: Both countries did horrible things in the war. There is no point blaming each other for everything that happened in world war two.

Lets rather realise the mistakes and stop and think for a second how many innocient lives were lost in war. Neither country is better than the other.

  • Nagasaki also bombed after Hiroshima.

  • The atomic bomb MUST NOT ever be used again. May all of the innocent Japanese citizens of Hiroshima rest in peace, and move on into the next page of our lives.

  • @PipoMadness1992 yes, may japan NOT invade china again. may the lives of the innocent chinese rest in peace or whatever too

  • Who started the war first ?

The answer was Japan Empire !

They bombed China, Korea, Taiwan, Philippibe, Hong Kong,

Singapore, Malaysia, Burma, Vietnam , Indonesia, Pearl Harbour, and even Australia.

Now, they must got back her own rewards in fornt of God !

  • this is my oven for roast meat. i too sad it is too small, my imperial army out there need more roasted meat from hiroshima , the dead bones will be crushed for my coffin, thank you america

  • Grow up.

  • the bomb is a good bomb

  • It is so absurd and sad, to see the peace memorial & peace day in Hiroshima being used as portraying the Japanese as the major victims of WWII, but quietly skimming over WHY the bombs were dropped and ignoring that millions of lives had already been killed by the Japanese & these bombs were used to put an end to Japanese bloody Rampage through Asia from the beginning of 20th century(Japanese Colonialism) to end of WWII. Japan, your hands are still bloody & your lies to this day so clear.

  • yeah well i give them credit fot excellent PR i guess. enough to convince many naive, simple minded leftist hippies.

  • This is what happens when hate breeds wars and wars brings death and destruction. May this chapter in history never be repeated for all of humanity's sake.

  • [*]

  • Usa is always justifying own's behaviour...

    Atomic-bomb is clearly war crime...

  • lol

  • poverty South Asia people.

    stupid South Asia people.

    South Asia inferior to Africa.

    Europe, USA, Japan>>Africa>>>>>>South Asia

  • Rest In Peace.

  • Longbow, patriotic BASTARD! Do me a favour, fight for your oil in Irac, and DIE THERE!

  • what most posters on here dont know or forget is that the jap govermewnt WAS TOLD by the allies that they had "a new weapon that would bring ruin down on there heads..." the jap goverment refused to give in and reaped the bombs.. remember it took two of them to stop the war dead in it's tracks...

most japs kids dont know what there armys got up to in south east asia and it's illegal in japan for them to be told the horrid truth!

  • yeah asshole and you and your stupid country have what they deserved in 11/09 jajaja till that day i sleep well to. stop saying nonsense´s who are you to say what its right and wrong, ohhh im a stupid american, pearl harbor was ataked and how many soldiers die?? the you go an drop two atomic boms to japenese citizens, oo yeah that fair enought oh!! yea i forget and ben afleck broke is nails filming the movie, what tragedy. im from mexico, tht country that usa invaded to in teh past.

  • is safe i mean is it still radioative????????????

  • No, the area is normal to what the average radiation is.

  • its safe, they used borax and bleach to scrub the buildings that are still standing during the re-building process.

  • i think you just might be retarded. And i would say that in a funny way that is a memorial for all of them. AND OF COURSE THERE IS A MEMORIAL FOR THEM ALL.

    Ur a shame to england.

  • Is there a memorial to all the houndread thousands England did kill with his evil imperialism ?

  • You're right longbow, and don't forget the memorial they have built for the division that pillaged and raped Nanking...they were such wonderful people lol

  • people like you deserved to have a suffering and slowly deaht, u to have a memorial where the towers fall, try to learn from the jap, maybe u to need a nuclear bom on ur country to star to be a better human being, stop that crap or people will be think that you are stupid men

  • Sneak attack on Pearl Harbor....... Bataan death march....Paybacks are a bitch..People dying is not funny or to be taken lightly. lets hope this never has to happen again.

  • theres a lot of sick yanks posting obscene comments!how did it save lives? one day your time will come.youve made too many enemies with your illegal wars!

  • What would have happen if japan had been invaded? how much longer would the war had lasted? 2, 4, 5 years? how many more people would have died? how many of YOUR fellow countrymen would have been killed fighting in the Japanese homeland?

This was something that happened 3 generations ago. Some countries, i assume yours was one of them, had been fighting for 6 years. do you think that generation could have taken much more of what had been going on?

  • At the time the bomb was dropped Japan was in a neutral state. There was famine, no planes, no war ships, barely many soilders as many had been on the ships that were blown out of the waters.

The war was practically over. It was only by the ranting of their leader, their emperor, that encouraged the U.S to drop a domb. Or perhaps it was the merely out of curiousity that it was dropped. After all, it was a test.

  • you sir have alot to give back to the Americans, They could have left you to die!

The germans would have made short work of your country!

  • lol

  • That bomb saved thousands perhaps even millions of Japanese lives not to mention American, Russian, and Australian lives

  • The japanese brought it on them. What did they expect? They were going to bomb pearl harbor and think were just going to say 'dont bomb us any more dont be mean'. If u guys no anything about history, America is known for defending ourselves and fighting back. We only were defending ourselves

  • Correct! Which is in accordance with international law, as every country has a right to defend itself.

  • Now we invade Iraq without being attack, and want to invade Iran.

  • Not with you, Americans did tooooo much, boy! One thing is a ''normal bomb'' another one is a Nuclear one. Try to read '' Diary of hiroshima, from Michihiko Hachiya, you would understand WHY I say this. You destroyed too much thins, you are always IN everywhere, stay out of a war for once,. I know my english is not good, but don't care, but my blood has boiled when I read your comment!

  • Also -

Before moving back to the US, I saw an interview with former Prime Minister Eikichi Miyazawa in January 2005 on the Japanese show "Sunday Morning." He was working for the Ministry of Finance during the war and his comments were interesting. When the surrender was announced in Aug 45, his thoughts were not one of wanting to commit seppuku in front of the imperial palace, as many did. His only thoughts, according to him, were "finally, we can keep our lights on at night."

  • Kazushigeh -

To each is own. The amount of time taken to respond to Postdam was ultimately nobody else's call but their own. They knew what we were asking in order to stop the downpour of bombs. Guess that's what they get taking us on to begin with. They started it on their terms, we ended it on ours. That said, everything else you mention in your post below I agree with 100%.

  • "Not responded to Potsdam quickly"

    does not explain everything.

I also think there should have been better way to close the war without atomic bomb.

But still,if they had not been used at that time, war would not have finished soon, and Soviet might have taken half or whole Japan.

The worst scenario for Japan and maybe rest of the world. The world today would be completely different. This is different story.

  • One last thought. The fact that they wanted to try and negotiate peace after we told them at Potsdam that anything other than unconditional was unacceptable was their call. The fact that they wanted to draw it out to try and get a deal was a gamble THEY embarked upon. America's intent was to let it rain bombs until they raised the flag. Our problem was that we were running out of targets.

  • it was extremely easy for Japan to avoid all of this devistation by simply raising the white flag

    >> ohh....

The problem at that time was the difficulty in negotiating with united nations. Japan tried to find the way of treaty via Soviet since Jpn-Svo neutral pact was effective. Unfortunately Soviet was interested in the Pacific Lim, disregarding some message intentionally.

Of course, it is true that poor ability to conduct diplomacy made it difficult.

But to say " extremely easy" is too stupid.

  • Not arguing with your details BUT if history serves me correctly, once the emperor had enough, he threw in the towel, no?

  • In addition to my note below, it was extremely easy for Japan to avoid all of this devistation by simply raising the white flag and saying "ok, we're done." That simple action would saved everyone a lot of grief...Obviously history shows they didn't have the frame of mind to do that and preferred destruction. I went to school in Japan and while Hiroshima was talked about, the Rape of Nanking simply referred to as "a lot of confusion where a lot of people died..." Go figure.

  • Interestingly enough, the story that never seems to get told is the horrors of the conventional fire bombings America did to Japan, which started in March of 45 and ended in August. We did more devistation than we did in four years of bombing in Europe, per the US Strategic Bombing Survey. The a-bombs were just a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the raids...Then again, if we take the stance of the holocaust deniers, Neither Hiroshima nor Nagasaki happened.

  • We tried to tell japan, but they did not listen to our warning, they ignored it, and we shoved a nuke up their ass. And the result,

    over 1,000,000 DEAD

  • It's like I always say... Peace sells... But Who's buying???"

In other words, Peace has no price. If the world was united, and we all loved with one another, It wouldn't cost a dime. I try to live my life peacefully. I don't fight, I don't leave people for dead, And I will NEVER kill.

LOL!!! Megadeth taught me to live like this...

  • Everyone loses in war.

  • Brentnee you are an idiot. How many died in perl harbor? a couple of hundred? i hate America more an more every day. And no im not islamic.

  • Agreed

  • Well, they should have known that when they hurt the American people, they'll get something in return.....death and destruction.

  • Shut up! We didn't start the war! America did so I wouldn't be talking~!

  • How did America start the war?

America was staying out of it until Japan hit pear harbor. That is what got the us involved in a war we did not want to be in. Why should our people die because of japan's crazy leaders.

  • Ahem, excuse me? Did WE start World War one and two? I don't think so!

  • Did the U.S. start world war one or two?

The U.S. did not enter world war one until the zimmermann note.

The U.S. did not enter ww2 until pear harbor.

  • Pearl harbor was an inside job. Its history repeating lemme explain: Adolf hitler burned his own building (The reichstag) blammed the communist aressted random ppl and said they where communists then the ppl of germany got mad and supported hitler in starting a war...

  • Then pearl harbor, america blows up his own harbor, blammes japan the US ppl get mad and support the idea of starting a war... Then 9/11, US blows up his own buildings, US ppl get mad and support the war in iraq... Come on man open your eyes! WHERE ARE THOSE CHEMICAL WEAPONS?? OUR GOVERMENT IS SICK!

  • That is an strange theory.

Where did they get all of the Japanese people to fly the planes for pearl harbor?

Why would the government want to enter world war two any way.

  • Dude, they ignored all the warnings and said it where american planes... They wanted it too happen... And America was already involved in wo2 (wel kind of)... The did bussness with hitler alot... U can look it up if you want, IBM for instance helped hitler and the holocaust.. dont believe me? Plz search a bit bout it...

  • Actually, there is very strong evidence to suggest that FDR let the Japanese attack. He just didn't know where. FDR was just about ready to grab onto anything to get into WWII because... well actually I don't know why he wanted to. Probably to benefit economically and promote democracy with the Atlantic Charter.

  • Oh my god, FIRST OF ALL FUCK CONSPIRACY THEORIES!!! UNLESS YOU SURVIVED PEARL HARBOR, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SAY IT WAS AN INSIDE JOB!

And ChocomaruChan... Well, to be honest... You're an idiot.

  • fuck u mean i know ppl ... the ignored all the warnings just like 9/11 u bitch...

  • HAHAHAHA!

    Right...

  • go look it up for yourself then...

  • To be honest, I really don't wanna waste my time on such bullshit. Nor do I want to waste time with you.

  • then dont..

  • Okay, That settles this argument.

  • why u waste time on this? U said u dont wanna waste time on this... THEN DONT, SHUT YA MOUF!

  • he doesn't want to be proven wrong.

  • Maybe I am wrong. Just an opinion. Personally think this stuff is a great exchange of thought. I'd love to be proven wrong. That's what education is all about.

  • Whatever! Well, Japan didn't start any of your stupid wars!

  • But your leaders where crazy.

No offence to your people but back then they did not care about any one. all they cared about was owning the world.

  • Look who's talking! It's not like WE were the only one!

  • I just hope no one ever uses the A bomb again.

It causes to much harm to people who might not be involved.

It is very sad that it came down to that back then.

  • your right hitler tried too and we americans, were trying to stop it

  • Because this is about Hiroshima Peace Park. If I ever go to Nanking I can add that.

  • if i was was there id want to be right under it cause i wouldnt have enough time to say oh or o

  • Can't we all just say "hey, war is shit, there are WAY too many power-hungry people in power that CAUSE this crap, and let's learn from it", instead of placing blame on one side or the other? It sucks what happened. Let's learn from it, instead of saying "hells yea! My country can beat up your country!" "they deserved it" and all that junk. The people who made this war happen weren't bombed. Those were civilians, every day people. God.

  • i really like what you are saying and i agree 100% procent. The poor thing is that USA goverment will ALWAYS ALWAYS put a finger "for america" when it comes to war. I dont say America as a country suck. but that war crazy goverment is just madness and has always been

  • I also belive that HoneyNVinegar has a very, very good point and i could go on for so long about why it is such a good example of learning from ones... well alot of peoples mistakes.

  • that just shows incredible ignorance the japanese lost and they admit it but remember their dead and thats honorable of them.

  • you dont see us saying that, either. But you rather the war dragged on longer and more people on BOTH sides died?Because that's exactly what would have happened. Japan would have lost either way but were not about to surrender until the bombs dropped.Had they not, the toll would have been tenfold what it was.Could more military targets have been chosen? Yes.this event in effect spare others the horror?Yes.And dont act like the japanese wouldnt do the same to us and drop nukes had they had them.

  • It's been said before but if we had invaded Japan isntead of dropping the bombs, there would be no Japanese today, they were ready to fight till the last man, woman and child, they said "The death of Japan will be beautiful, like the shattering of a jewel" lucky for us and them their common sense won over and they are a strong ally to this day

  • America is world's #1 terrorist.

  • check this out .... Rape of Nanking Nanjing Massacre Part 3 Atrocities in Asia <<< the Japs did worst

  • I don't think the tens of thousands of children who died were trying to "fuck with us americans", do you?

  • pocket, It's all hindsight my friend. The Germans bombed the bloody hell out of London and you don't see Brits whining about it like the Japanese whine about something that saved their nation. Why do the Japanese see themselves as a special case?

We bombed the bleedin hell out of Dresden and the Germans don't whine. Why do the Japanese see themselves as a special case?

  • we dont whine about it because if the blitz never happened we may have lost the war. We gained something from it. The Japenese didnt they just got the shit blown out of them. Oh and the fact you did that much damage in one day. What would you have done if they didnt surrender.

  • The Japanese don't whine about it. Despise the horrible things the United States has done to Japan, they're quite friendly with the US. The Japanese are a special case, they're the only country who has ever had an atomic bomb dropped on them. The deliberate killing of civilians is a war crime. We make a point of remembering these atrocities in the hope that this will keep them from happening again. The wisdom gained from hindsight we can now use in the future, but only if we remember.

  • 1)Let's be clear. This is a non-topic. It came to be a topic because the Japanese want it to be a topic. They force this non-issue and make it an issue when it is not an issue at all and dumb enough some in the international arena cling on to it like it is an issue.

  • 2)Luckily there are many more who can and do think logically and treat this like the non-issue that it is. What the Japanese are doing is turning away a significant number of people by being antagonistic by being passsive aggressive on this non-issue all the while playing the victim without thinking WHY this happened, as if they were in harmony and suddenly one day they got bombed. Japan would get on much better in the world if they would stop using this non-issue as a political tool.

  • Truther. Some good points. Enemies that were are no longer. The Brits placed the cross on the Frauenkirche in Dresden. All want peace.

  • go! tibbets go!

I've just finished reading "Dude! Where's my City" by Hiro shima with foreward by P.Tibbet.

  • I'll remember the men on the Arizona, and the men who endured Bataan, before I lose 1 ounce of sweat in my tears for Hiroshima.

  • amen

  • You are a dumbfuck. You do realize that the people killed were completely innocent and independent of their government, right? Of course you don't otherwise you wouldn't make such stupid remarks.

I am not saying the bomb should not have been dropped; it certainly should have been. But to act as though these people deserved what happened, is misguided and stupid. The dropping of the bombs saved a lot of American lives, but it was still a slaughter of civilians. It is still a tragedy.

  • I agree with you sir!

  • This should not stand as a testament to American power but to American stupidity. There was no need to drop the bombs on Japan. The Americans should have born the responsibility for their actions but instead they got away with it.

With great power comes great responsibility

  • LennyMoran- You embarrass me. It is "borne". Not, 'born'. Are you sure you are British? Now as for the bombs. So what? Would rather of had our Allied soldiers and Japanese civilians dying by the hundreds of thousands? Would you like to have seen a North Japan ruled by Russia?

  • Let's be peaceful about this. Peace is what the park is for.

  • By dropping that bomb Tibbets saved over 1,000,000 American lives that would have been lost had an invasion taken place every japasnese man women and child would have fought to the bitter end I see Tibbets as one of the greatest heroes in history.

  • the japanese and the germans would have done the same thing to us. in fact both of them were working on developing nuclear weapons at the same time as us. would you rather have 100,000 of the enemy die or would you rather have twice that, mabye more die, including thousands of americans. Tibbets did the right thing. besides, the japanese did much more inhumane things during the war than we did dropping the bomb. plus, the japanese killed thousands of innocent people.

  • Tibbets is nothing but a cold-blooded mass-murderer and a war criminal -- anybody who kills 100,000 human beings is a mass-murderer!

They could have just dropped a bomb into Tokyo Bay, as a demonstration of power, and as a warning... but they decided to slaughter more than 100,000 civilians to use them as guinea pigs, and to study the bomb-blast

Would the Germans or Japanese have done such a thing, we would hear endless rants about what a horrific and unhuman war crime it was...

  • Who ever thinks this was not necessary. Please look at the killings in Nanjing and tell me there was a better solution. Japan had what was coming to them. And because of it they are a much better country now. War sucks but its going to happen.

  • It was definately not necessary. The Japenese could have easily been beaten. I object to the bomb being dropped but i object mostly to the fact they killed innocent civialians

A life is Priceless it can't be replaced therefore has no price.

What is the price for over 70'000 priceless things.

  • Great vid!

  • It is me knocking at your door/at how many doors i've been/But no one can see me/Since the dead are invisible/I died at Hiroshima

that was ten years ago/I am a girl of seven

Dead children do not grow/First my hair caught fire then my eyes burnt out I became a handful of ashes blown away by the wind/

  • I don't wish anything for myself/for a child who is burnt to cinders cannot even eat sweets/I'm knocking at your doors aunts and uncles, to get your signatures so that never again children will burn and so they can eat sweets by Nazim Hikmet

  • USA USA USA!!

  • sorry i dont really think thats appropriate

  • If the USA did not drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, our only other option was to invade a very hostile Japanese homeland who knew not to surrender.

If we wanted to collect a large death toll why would we not drop a bomb right on Tokyo? The goal of the bomb was not to cripple a country, it was to force that country into submission with the fewest casualties possible.
