  • ... you totally just dont know what you are talking about ...

Wether you are too young or just had none of this devices...

    These games were awesome...

  • I soooo remember this!! OMG...I forgot the cheesy sound effects and why the hell does DK look like bigfoot? Check out intellivision beauty and the beast also...

  • Dig Dug vs Frogger. Who's with me?

  • @theCreature22 does not compare -_-

  • Why does everyone hate the atari 2600 version? I love that version.

But THIS version, the Intellivision version is s***.

  • @bocaj5509 totally agree with u

    and think of this

since the intellivison has an awkward phone like controller thing that also means the control is bad and make the atari version WIN for sure

  • the colecovision version had much better graphics

  • J'Appellerais ça Martien King moi lol

  • Burgertime was much better on this same console.

  • i have this on Intellivision and it's most likely the worst videogame i ever played. makes Pacman on 2600 look like a masterpiece.

  • Coleco did this because they wanted there version look better then this & the VCS version

  • This is worse than the Atari one. The Atari is bad as well, but at least Mario looks kinda like Mario in that one.

  • Imajic's Beauty and the Beast game was definitely better than this.

  • Their plan backfired on the Atari that version of Donkey Kong is crazy fun even with 2 levels and mario looks great.

  • Okay let's see.

Mario looks like a hill billy and the sound effects don't help negate the thought.

Donkey Kong is no longer a Gorilla but a shit coloured crab holding a bowling ball over his head.

Pauline looks like F.L.U.D.D and can camoflauge herself depending on what colour the level is.

The power of imagination my friends.

  • Almost as bad as the DOS version.

  • Colecos seemed little more than a clone of INTV's(which I had).

  • Looks eve worse than the Atari 2600 version.

  • why pauline is bloody??????????

  • @babygiraffe123 actually, I've read Coleco made bad InTV ports to make Colecovision look better. lol

  • babygiraffe123 actually, I've read Coleco made terrible ports for InTV to make Colecovision look better, lol.

  • Donkey Kong LITERALLY looks like a lop of shit....lmao

  • OMFG!!! This is SO crappy, I'm laughing! They REALLY cheaped out, on this game....lmfao.

  • This could have been worse, Coleco could have made it so that when you turn it on, there's a bouncing or scrolling message that says "Thanks for the cash!". Or, it could have been an advertisement for THEIR version on THEIR console....

  • Why does Mario look like he's jumping on the moon?

  • Looking for a version worse than the 2600? Well look no further!

  • Just as awful as the 2600. They're equally awful. Though I kind of liked this version as a little kid.

  • why is donkey kong a turtle

  • Should have lost a life @ 1:58.

  • this was mw2 of the 1980s

  • Biggest Disgrace to one of the best arcade games in Gaming history. Coleco Should be ashamed of themselves for disgracing the name of one of the most popular Arcade Games back in 1981. Screw You Coleco for ruining Both themselves and Nintendo's Image. >:(

  • Comment removed

  • Nothing like the arcade version.

  • just horrible

  • Guy with purple overalls and looks skinny, it's not Mario, It's WALUIGI!

  • At least it's better than "Sonic Jam" on the Tiger Game Com!

  • 0:13 Bonus -1 lol set your variables before displaying it xD

  • DK looks like a frog! XD

  • Way better than atari. All the old intellivision games were. I love that console. Way ahead of it's time. It's graphics were the PS3's of it's day.

  • donkey kong is snot green

  • I don't think it looks or plays all that bad for early 80s hardware!

  • Man that sucked. On the second level you jumped over a bolt and it didn't disappear and on the third level you got hit squarely by a barely and lived. The collision detection was awful.

  • @gamewizard

    Oops. barely=barrel.

  • This is cool because it's history. it sucks for other obvious reasons.

  • I know this doesn't work on Intellivision 2, but what about Intellivision 3?

  • @MrSaturn33

INTV System 3 uses the original EXEC so the game should work in it. Intellivision 3 was supposed to be a more capable successor to the Intellivision and was never released.

  • to all of you complainers about this port, graphics and sound aren't important. the gameplay and the controls are the only thing that matters (which is the only problem with this port since the intellivision uses a stiff disc. unless your a casual gamer....

  • with the graphical and limited sound capabilities of the intellivision, this is a good port.

  • at least its better than colecos shitty port there port was suckish

  • @123stephenno wtf are you smoking?

  • Donkey Kong looks like a bear, what's-her-name looks like E.T., and Mario's just got a terrible limp or a case of the gout.

  • @demoskunk Oh, and the flaming barrels look like Alien chest bursters, lol!

  • Mario doesn't even look like Mario. And to make things worse, the fire things on the second level do look allot like the fire things on the atari 2600 version adding to the complete failier of this game.

  • the only up side: it doesn't just cut to the next level like the collecovision version. otherise, this looks like crap. (I've never played either version)

  • Is that mario or some guy in blue clothes dogging barrels emmiting from a poo monster?

  • Intellevision needs to be ashamed of themselvesfor producing that piece of shit Donkey Kong..in comparison, the ColecoVision version was very good for its time.

  • What's that brown thing on the top of the screen?

You're trying to tell me that's DK?

You're not consuming drugs, are you?

  • It was still better than the Atari 2600's version of Donkey Kong...

  • Comment removed

  • this suxs ~ nice 2 c coleovision ~ any console port version ?

  • my brother used to have one but my mom said its to bad for ur eyes and then she returned after like a month

  • ok firstly why the hell cant i find me boxed copy of my donkey kong anywhere online or youtube. i no therer is about 3-4 different copies of donkey kong intellivision but i cant find mine. The cover has a picture of donkey kong throwing flaming barrels and marios gf in the background and mario climbing up a ladder. The picture is ment to look real. its a blue box and yer i cant find it anywhere can any body help?

  • LOL at 1:58, by any standard, the player should have lost a life.

  • Intellivision games are more worser than Atari games. This version of Donkey Kong takes the cake.

  • Everyone, save Mario, looks better in this version than the 2600 release. The levels look better, though the first level is laid out correctly on Atari's system. I think a programmer had littletime to work and little time for research or communication between each other on different versions. If they worked as a team on designing a game, it would have made each version nearly identical. Look at the Intellivision Pitfall! release as proof of how close two versions could be.

  • Why is there a giant turd on the top of the screen? Oh, never mind, that's Donkey Kong.

  • oh no DK what have you done to this game besides making me feel weard!!

  • Woe, Coleco butchered this game.

  • this the lame version im glad i never played

  • This blows Ima plug in my colecovision.

  • DK is a bear

  • D.K Ish Green Lol

  • This version actually looks *worse* than the Atari 2600, which is no mean feat.

  • Hhhmmm... use the Smurf to climb up ladders, avoiding cookies, picking up mail, and deformed turds, and save the princess from the oversized Goomba. What a fucking mess.

  • bleh....watch the teddy bear dodge the stale cookies and grab toilet plungers in order to save the ghost girl from the giant goomba with a scary face! (even the atari version is better than this hunk of bleep)

  • Agreed. At least the 2600 version was fast. This is just shit. We often assumed back then that Coleco was deliberately making bad versions of its games on the rival consoles, heh heh.

  • So...a...smurf...is climbing ladders...to save... ET... from the...dark green turd...while dodging...bowling balls?

  • Because your vision is our vision COLECOVISION. I came in my pants when theis promo went over ABC, NBC and CBS back in the day. And I loved this version of DK because the 2600 sucked so bad.

  • I didn't think 4-biy processors existed, but i have my doubts after this

  • wow....it looks really evil. Thought that the atari 2600 version was really bad, but this one is much worser...;-)

    But anyway, DK is cool.

  • Mario jumped over the RHS "screw" and it didn't come out? Proves Coleco released a deliberate inferior version to "show off" the coleco. For me its Atari 2600 and Intellivision that had the fun!

  • We always thought that eventually you'd get to the "mud factory" but it never happened. Bought my 1st Intellivision around '81. Night Stalker, Beauty and the Beast, Poker Black Jack, Chess, Backgammon. What fun,,,

  • @admllr it's a cement pan factory

  • He runs faster than my Mario.

  • Donkey Kong looks like a collard green turd here. The worse version of Donkey Kong EVER !

  • Donkeykong looks like frog, lol :)

  • 1:58 major glitch!

  • Donkey Kong is on the wrong side...

  • If you think this is bad, you should see the "creative" interpretation of the mario sprite on the Mexican boxart.

  • sadly the worst port. At least the 2600 version has mario looking correctly and the right color.

  • The only proof you need that Coleco made this game look awful on purpous, is to play Thunder Castle for INTV. You will then see what the system is capable of.

They also made the controls really sloppy, its quite hard to jump over barrels in this version. The 2600 version is bad, and DK looks like a gingerbread man.. but it is still loads of fun to play!

  • @jeremysart you're right, the jumps in this game suck. It's like he jumps a bit, realizes that he's too low, thinks "Nah, i must get a bit up!" And right in the air, he goes up a little bit so it's barely possible to jump over the barrels.

And then, in mid air, he like gets stuck and thinks "oH shit, gotta get to the ground!" And falls down to the ground. And that compressed into a second. It just looks horrible.

  • @jeremysart or it is an invincible parachute, who knows... ;)

  • holy fuck and i thought the 2600 version sucked

  • I was absolutely convinced at 11 years old that Coleco tanked the Intellivision version of Donkey Kong to make its own newly introduced console look better. After seeing this video, I am still 100% convinced. The gorilla is just a blob of poo. Only thing worse than the graphics was that annoying sound.

  • The gorilla actually looks like a vagina. At least it's nice to see Mario with a good tan.

  • Heh, Mario kind of looks like Porky the Pig in this game.

I hate Coleco for making this version.

  • @sjjjvideo1, Want to know what's even WORSE? THE ENTIRE SYSTEM

  • @sjjjvideo1 That means Rare stole from Coleco and Nintendo to make THE GREAT MIGHTY POO from Conker's Bad Fur Day

  • @sjjjvideo1: Still they didn't made Donkey Kong exactly perfect for the ColecoVision itself; besides nice graphics and sound one level is missing and a lot of other details from the arcade original, like the intro and: 'how high can you get'.

Some of those parts are concluded on the proto-rom Super DK, however.

  • Wow is this version just something awful. There is no way this wasn't done on purpose to be this bad. I had both a ColecoVision and Intellivision. The Intellivision could do much better than what was shown here. Coleco was a better system I agree but this was done bad on purpose. Thats just wrong for so many reasons. Wow Coleco really put no effort into this version of it just so their system could look better. I believe that 100 percent.

  • Yep,that, right there, was all the proof I need. I knew it! Coleco was crippling the competition's games! Those dirty bastards over at Coleco. I'm glad they went bankrupt, even though I like the ColecoVision! What's even worse is,Coleco made the Atari 2600 expansion illegally, and after a big court trial, COLECO ACTUALLY WON! WTF?!?! Even the Intellevision II had an illegal expansion to play Atari 2600 games! Man,looking at it now,it makes me sick. Good vid,bad graphics!

  • This version is a piece of trash. Only thing worse is the 2600 version. The DKjr version for Intellivision is much better.

  • The princess has a boner!

  • Wow, I got it, and while like the 2600 game, it looks like boiling crap, it's actually a pretty fun game :D

  • Crappy Kong!!

  • Coleco made this version awful on purpose since they had THEIR console out when they made this. (Or their system was coming and not out yet)

  • Well, that's the theory, although I don't think any Coleco game designer has actually come out and admitted it. ;)

  • Yeah and it's also what's said about the 2600 version.

  • Their console was out, and this did this on both INTV and VCS with DK, DK Jr, Carnival, Mouse Trap and other titles to be able to show "see we are better than they are" releases.

  • @intellaricovision lol what assholes :D

  • @intellaricovision This isn't that nad for 1982. Coleco get a bad rap for "sabotaging" games but DK is decent on both the 2600 and INTV. I think people look back in time and forget the limitations of 1982 consoles.

  • wow and i thouth the atari 2600 version looked bad...

  • It looks bad, but it's actually quite fun. Only the hammer part was sucky.

There's an Atari 7800 version which is actually pretty, but that came years later.

  • oh ok

  • Well, at least the numbers look cool in this one.

  • wow this is even gayer than the 2600 version

  • On a 1080p tv this makes Kill Zone 2 look crap. Its just that back then the tvs were terrible, thats why the graphics look so bad.

In reality the Atari was almost as capable as the Ps3 now,the only difference being that Ps3 plays Blu ray films but you could buy an Atari console AND a Blu ray player seperate and still be cheaper than a Ps3!I love both consoles but compared to each other there really is not much difference, honestly!

Please no haters,im just pointing out technical FACTS.

  • Ha-ha you dumb fuck do you not understand satire you fucking monkey, notice how your the only one to not get it so now whos the retard. You know you look silly now dont you,oh and before leaving it is best to stick it in the mouth barrel facing upwards, you cant even insult correctly lmfao!!!

  • haha donkey is on the rong side of this version

  • That's actually the least of this game's problems.

  • That's due to one less girder on the level.

  • @mythbusters22 all the early versions: atari computers, intellivision, colecovision and i believe the 7800 had him on the wrong side

  • donkey kong in this game looks like a frog's face with legs when he's not throwing barrels

  • I don't know if Coleco intentionally made this worse than it should've been, but if not, then that just means that they were incredibly lazy. I'd almost rather play the crappy 2600 port. Almost. Thank god I have a Colecovision.

  • Colecovision was the only port of this game, in this era, that was any good at all.

  • I know I'd rather play the atari version than this. The "walking" sound is so annoying.

  • it's some kind of sinister grinning face on legs that spits out metal watermelons.

  • jeez and i thought the atari version sucked

  • my dad still has his.

  • Donkey Kong was the birthplace of "Mario" right?

  • Yep. Mario made his first appearance in Donkey Kong. Only back then he was a carpenter not a plumber, and his name was "Jumpman", not "Mario".

  • Technically no, as the hero in DK was actually referred to as "jumpman" and not Mario.

  • @pokerjet I think the console versions refer to jumpman as mario.

  • i didn't know that story. the graphics and sounds sucked. beauty and the beast (which i owned) by imagic was so much better

  • I always assumed that they just ported the Atari 2600 version to the Intellivision. I know it looks just that bad.

  • No. 2600 DK was much worse. It's sounds alone were headache-inducing. Look it up on YT.

  • the 2600 version is good for being on the 2600. The intellivision version is really bad for being on the intellivision.

  • ROFL!

This game looks like it was made in 1972.

  • Donkey Kong looks like 4 Puyo's and one has legs...

  • Legend has it that the Intellivision programmers were so upset by this they wanted to make their own in-house unofficial version of the game just to prove the Intellivision could do better than this.

  • WTF Donkey Kong looks like a vagina @_@

  • He does not...

  • even as a 9 year old kid I thought this game sucked. I had no idea until now that Coleco made it and that Intelivision allowed their games to be produced by their own rivals - a strategic blunder it seems that opens the door to this sort of sabotage.

  • You seem to imply that Mattel (Intellivision's manufacturer) sanctioned Coleco's Intellivision games. They did not.

  • Yeah, it would be like if Microsoft made "Halo 3" for the Playstation 3, and made it look real bad.

The Intellivision has great games, but this one just doesn't take the cake, lolz.

  • There is no doubt that Coleco did this on purpose, look at other Intv games like Thunder Castle, or Burger Time.. the Intv was capable. Coleco was paranoid, they even locked their games so that they could not be used on other systems with adapters..

  • The Atari 2600 was just as lame but at least Intellivision did not have flickery graphics.

The Colecovision version was not that great either, only 3 boards and it just jumped to the next screen without any animations like in the arcade, even the NES was not so great, no Pie Factory and the boards went in the same order over and over again.

  • see donkey kong for coleco adam my friend.has all boards and the animation .i heard that coleco made a lame version just to make the intellivision look bad

  • Colecovision version was a slice of heaven back at release, and it still holds up today. And all the home versions (except the XEGS version) have 3 or less stages.

  • NES, and Colecovision were the good ones

  • The Arcade was the best. Atari 2600 and this were BLEH.

  • I'm glad I was born during NES time,so I never had to go through this type of crap.

  • Donkey Kong looks like a giant poo.

  • I say space alien.

  • I know that Mario (aka "Jumpman") was a carpenter then and not a plumber, but why is his suit blue?

At least the graphics on the Atari version were as good as it could get.

  • mario was a carpenter but his Occupation was changed to plumber after the Release of Mario Bros.

  • Yep! :)

Mario has always been red, even with the original arcade (different style, but still some red). So why is he like totally blue in this one?

  • i have no clue

  • Neither do I, lolz.

  • If you could use a better controller this might not be so bad. Maybe...

  • y is the first level backwords?

  • MAJOR failing of collision detection at 1:58. Mario would've been dead in any other version!

  • Wow, this is shockingly bad. Even the 2600 version was better. The best classic home version of Donkey Kong ever made was for the ill-fated Coleco ADAM computer. The Atari 8-bit computer version (400/800/XL/XE) was a very close second.

  • Are you kidding? The 2600 version makes this look almost good by comparison. Have you played the 2600 version recently? Remember how the fireballs can't even climb up and down the ladders on the second level, so they're just reduced to sliding from left to right, i.e., providing no challenge whatsoever?

    Boring!

As far as I'm concerned, the Atari 800 version fully ruled. It was way better than the Colecovision edition, so now I'm curious: How did the Adam cart differ from the console version?

  • Nevermind, I just answered my own question, thanks to YouTube. That Adam version looks way the heck better than the one bundled with Colecovision consoles and, like the Atari 800 cart, all four screens are present and accounted for, with all the elements they're supposed to have, like jumping jacks on the elevators screen, something that was missing from the Colecovision version.

  • Thank God the NES came along & gave us the Donkey Kong We really wanted ! Too bad the intro & the pie factory were missing though :( Still think to this day Nintendo could have made a better translation given the fact it was the same hardware that was in the original Super Mario arcade cab.

  • I like the sound effect of Mario jumping, like hysterical sheep.

  • Heh, teh funny.

  • oh god its just so dam terrible...

  • this version make the Atari one look better

  • Years ago I read some rumor that Coleco deliberately make the 2600 version look bad when compared to the ColecoVision. If that's true, then they might have done the same thing with the Intellivision version too.

  • Well, the Blue Sky Rangers, the design and programming group that made most of the Intellivision games at Mattel, has gone on record with the belief that Coleco purposfully made bad ports of the game to make the Intellivision look bad in comparison to the superb ColecoVision version.

    For what that's worth.

  • that sucked

  • Mario has been tanning too much.

  • I used to play the shit outa this game. Yeah it sucked, but I didnt have to put quarters in the system to play it LOL.

  • UGGGGHHHH this is intellivision?!???! damn dude

  • The Colecovision port of this game rocks. This one looks like shit.

  • The Intellivision was definitely capable of much more. The Intellivision version of Burger Time for instance, is great.
