So basically, Vegeta's SS2 can be much weaker than Gohan's SS2. And if say, Vegeta trains hard, he could reach or even pass Gohan's SS2.

Each new SS level brings a WHOLE new feature and it's drastic increase in ability. SS1 increased everything and you turn golden. SS2 all your hair sticks up except for one strand and you get lightning sparks and a much more powerful increase in strength, power and speed like Gohan. SS3 longer hair and much more power, speed, strength increase than SS2

Gohan was the only one supposed to even ascend to SSJ2 because of his uncontrollable and exclusive power from childhood (Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, etc.). Because of fan pressure the author decided to continue past the Cell saga, and all of a sudden Goku and Vegeta can ascend to SSJ2, otherwise it'd actually be exclusive to Gohan.

I don't get why people say that ascended ss is ssj2, like wtf. SSj2 DOESN'T lower speed, it increases speed, strength and power. When Goku when SSJ1 for the first time against frieza was his speed lowered? No. When Goku went SSJ3 was his speed lowered? No. SSJ1,SSJ2 and SSJ3 increase greatly a person's speed, strength and power and when we see Gohan so SS2 for the first time all these attributes were increased greatly. Vegeta's transformation may be called ascended but it is not to be confused
