Looks like you're planning to be around for a while. I think that I'll do the same so that I can attend your pig roast in August 20009:
"A ride horseback in mid-winter in Vermont, 2010. Soundtrack is the song, "Shady Grove", played by my band, Shady Grove at the August 20009 Pig Roast at our Vermont farm. ... (more info) (less info)
This is so cool! I have 22 horses. I love your emails and newsletters and while reading all of it wondered how ever you fit all you do in . I am energetic and very busy and I can't squeeze in cooking and baking like I use to. Is the spotted horse gaited? Her back end looks just like mine, the bullseye. also when she was going towards you I thought she looked gaited. Good for you guys that you went riding even in the cold. Sometimes that's the best!
The large horse is Gypsy and is not gaited -- just so bloody big that it is like riding a sofa. But he does fling out his front hooves which makes him look a bit silly. Very comfy horse but I prefer my smaller paint -- he was a work horse from out west and is well-trained; turns on a dime; responds to leg and weight shifts.
Thanks for responding to my questions? Nice to have a horse that is trained well. I have my work cut out for me in training, and I appreciate a good trained horse like the one you described. Happy Trails!
Seems cold weather is all relative to riding conditions. Here is OK when the wind howls, which is most of the winter, mine get most of the winter off.. This year with the extreme weather, they've gotten all winter off. lol Looks as though you had a most enjoyable outting and certainly makes me long for cooperative spring weather so mine can go back to work. Thank you for posting!
But when I've done the January Thaw Ride in S.Woodstock, there's been snow on the ground! Wha' happened this year in VT? We'd be glad to give you some of the Tennessee snow.
Looks like a nice ride on some fine horses, but where are your helmets? After seeing several severe head injuries suffered from falls, I never get on without one. Bet you ride your bike and ski with one on...
Always wear a helmet EXCEPT when it is really cold out and I need to keep my ears warm. Yes, gave taken at least one very serious fall and the helmet saved my life.
Chris, great video. Thanks for posting. What kind of video camera are you using? Must be light--would like to try one when we ride.
I find that a balaclava--light or heavy, depending on temperature--fits under my helmet comfortably.

Camera is a small, portable LUMIX -- love it and also water- and shockproof.
