Adam was original intended to be the progenitor of life on Earth, but First Impact (when Lilith arrived) had her basically replacing him, serving as the origin of humankind (and possibly animals and plants? I really don't know).
Adam and Lilith both have the same origins, though.

@brotherhoodmemb01 The only way for a pilot to truly control one of the mecha units in this show is to neurologically synch up to it. One of the big things in the show was that the evangelions were biological machines with souls. They just needed the pilot to be the mind.
Also why are you complaining about that facet of the show. There are so many other things to complain about.

@brotherhoodmemb01 because they must sync neurologically, the angel does what they have it do because of what goes on in their head, but that means that the pilot also feels what the angel feels. this is because the angel isn't just a mech, it is biological. Usually, (pretty sure) the pilot is able to sync neurologically because the "soul or feelings" or the pilots mother/parent is absorbed in the angel, as in the case of asuka and shinji. watch it first, and the movie and rebuild, then judge.

The rebuild AKA "the we have money now" version might make more sense. I love this series. I love that it can be a mind fuck for people. Spoiler, the eva's aren't so much mech as they are living creatures. Show's defiantly not for everyone.
another thing that could have been a great influence is the Anno's intentions towards the "otaku" society.
Anno is mainly targeting the anime-obsessed viewers, (which fits shinji very well) To wake up from the limited view of reality. And acceptance of the difference in the reality that they believe should be.

Love how bizarre this series is. Now that I think about it, maybe putting a bunch of inexperienced, mentally insane children in billion dollar mecha robots wasn't the best idea... I mean really.
@Azeduori they tried. The children were the only ones with a high enough sync to run the mechs. Were you even paying attention ot the show?
Unit-01 wasn't responding as well as it should've bene when Ikari let those two guys into the cockpit. The kids can't even pilot eachother's mechs (Auska would never get away with running Unit-00, for instance.
In a way, you could consider each Eva as having it's own soul and refusing to work for anyone other than their chosen pilot.
@chaosnova5 Are you sure? I know Ikari's mother was the soul in his EVA, but are you certain Auska and Rei's mothers were in their units? I don't recall it ever being mentioned.
@ManekIridius Rei is said not to have a mother but is in fact a salvage of what remained after Yui (Shinji's mother) merged with Unit 01 and while Asuka's mother is a stranger case, it is in fact sceptical Asuka does mention in the EoE the fact that her mother has been protecting her but how this is possible is not mentioned.
@ManekIridius Yes, this is because Unit 02, is controlled and protected by Asuka's deceased mother and Unit 01 also contains Shinji's mother which is why it loses control every time Shinji almost dies. In the case of Unit 00 it has a deep link with Rei because of Lilith's soul inside her which is why Shinji could not pilot it. As for the other EVAs, they were either remote controlled, destroyed by the S2 Engine or taken over by an angel
But that's what made it the most amazing series ive watched. AND! it all fits together when the first movie, (End of Evangelion) and it all makes perfect sense.

So are the Eva's. Because they are sort-of-Angels. But Unit 01 is the most human of them all, being made from Lilith, who is the origin of mankind.
Humanity is also an Angel--but one born from Lilith, not Adam. Not that we are all individual Angels, but as a whole we are the Angel Lilim.

@clonemovies123 i did try to watch it,but i couldn't even force myself to watch episode 3.after the first two episodes i wanted to kick shinji's ass then kill his father.to me the best part of the anime was the opening theme song.that's it.again i was right about what anime's i know i'll hate,and i disproved the "all your questions will be answered if you watch the first episode" comment.most questions weren't answered and i ended up w/more questions than when i started.i don't mind you liking

The rebuild AKA "the we have money now" version might make more sense. I love this series. I love that it can be a mind fuck for people. Spoiler, the eva's aren't so much mech as they are living creatures. Show's defiantly not for everyone.

another thing that could have been a great influence is the Anno's intentions towards the "otaku" society.
Anno is mainly targeting the anime-obsessed viewers, (which fits shinji very well) To wake up from the limited view of reality. And acceptance of the difference in the reality that they believe should be.

@Azeduori they tried. The children were the only ones with a high enough sync to run the mechs. Were you even paying attention ot the show?
Unit-01 wasn't responding as well as it should've bene when Ikari let those two guys into the cockpit. The kids can't even pilot eachother's mechs (Auska would never get away with running Unit-00, for instance.
In a way, you could consider each Eva as having it's own soul and refusing to work for anyone other than their chosen pilot.

@ManekIridius Rei is said not to have a mother but is in fact a salvage of what remained after Yui (Shinji's mother) merged with Unit 01 and while Asuka's mother is a stranger case, it is in fact sceptical Asuka does mention in the EoE the fact that her mother has been protecting her but how this is possible is not mentioned.

@ManekIridius Yes, this is because Unit 02, is controlled and protected by Asuka's deceased mother and Unit 01 also contains Shinji's mother which is why it loses control every time Shinji almost dies. In the case of Unit 00 it has a deep link with Rei because of Lilith's soul inside her which is why Shinji could not pilot it. As for the other EVAs, they were either remote controlled, destroyed by the S2 Engine or taken over by an angel
