@Pinkforestt American public opinion is fairly evenly divided. Knox did no 'hard time' at all, since Italian prisons are pretty soft. All but the last few months of her time in jail were accounted for by her sentence for the slander of Patrick Lumumba, of which she remains convicted. She is only on temporary release and remains on trial for murder until the Italian supreme court speaks. She is not 'free', since her conviction prevents her from travelling.

@Pinkforestt Hellmann can't change his verdict. It's a question of what the supreme court makes of that verdict. Italian trials come in three parts and we haven't had Part III yet. Since Hellmann rejected without explanation a mass of prosecution evidence never even questioned by the defence (because it's unquestionable), including evidence the supreme court had already ruled good, the supreme court is pretty unlikely to uphold the acquittal.

@hobitshouse It's hard for me to believe in this age of so much technology that any police depart investegating such a horrible, brutal crime wouldn't record every single aspect of the investigation especially the interrogation of the suspects. It leaves a lot of unanswered questions.

@hobitshouse Yes, the independent investigators were hired by the defense but if the original evidence would have been true it would have stood, the judges would have accepted the original and not the second investigation. These "kids" weren't bright enough to clean all thier fingerprints/blood whatever from the crime scene but leave the real killers. As far as the lying that goes back to the way they were interrogated and the Itallians didn't record it...strange if you aske me.

@hobitshouse It seems she had a split lip in the beginning but emotional torture/bullying isn't going to show up. It's not an unusual practice to use a good cop/bad cop approach to interrrogation to get someone to confess but if it goes on too long or is too agressive it can cause false memories if they start putting dif senarios in her head. They should have recorded it, normal procedure in the US as it protects both sides.

@hobitshouse We've had documented cases here where rough interrogation techniques have caused false memories and false confessions, this is nothing new I'm surprised you haven't even heard of this. This is the reason all interrogations should be recorded...always! And I'm not being rude about the British or Italian people nor would I ever so I don't get this rudeness about Americans.

Meredith was clearly a beautiful girl with a lot of promise and she didn't deserve to be brutally murdered the way she was. @hobitshouse Regarding false memories, if you want to look up the McMartin Preschool trials in the 80's, Wikipedia has a good explaination of what happened. Much of this was filmed, these were kids but it also has happened with adults, I'll see if I can find some cases if you want. GoodCop/badcop is a tech used, goodcop is friendly to suspect, asks him general questions, offers him help, he leaves badcop comes in and is mean, wears people down after hrs & sometimes will say anything.

She showed on signs of being manipulated or being abused and she has been more than coherent all the way through the trials. All that has been inconsistant has been her and her bf's stories. OJ Simpson guilty as hell but aquitted & couldn't stay out of trouble, did you guys hear about Casey Anthony case? Prob killed her 2 yr old, pathological liar, aquitted but have serious doubts she can stay out of trouble. @nancylp400 I will do. Look up 10 rillington place. There is a movie of it with richard attenbrough and john hurt. Im sure the character played by hurt got hanged and in the end they found out the other guy was a serial killer. Theres a documentary about it on here. A lot of this case formed part of the argument for getting rid of capital punishment in the UK.
@hobitshouse I will look it up, The way I feel about cap punishment is only..ONLY when there is no doubt. Ted Bundy serial killer in the 80's admitted so sure with him but too many killed when doubts remain. TX is the worst state for executions I think. I am in Oregon, none for yrs and we have one guy begging to get on with it. (he was in for life but murdered someone in prison so now on death row and is ready to die but this state is very slow with executions)

Sounds a lot like a case in Chicago, John Wayne Gacy who raped and killed 33 young (teen) boys in the 70's and hid the bodies in floorboards of house and in garden. I once had the misfortune of smelling a body that had been dead in the heat of summer for a month, seems like the smell would have been unbearable. I understand how you feel about execution and can easily be swayed to change my mind on that.
@hobitshouse Regarding the US being tougher on crime, I'm not familiar with the UK in this regard but there was a time here that they got more time for stealing a car then some murders. Now we do have something called measure 11, for some crimes, not just murder but repeat offenders etc, they have to serve the full sentence, no time off for good behavior etc so sometimes it's good but we still seem to convict innocent peeps too often imho.

@Pinkforestt American public opinion is fairly evenly divided. Knox did no 'hard time' at all, since Italian prisons are pretty soft. All but the last few months of her time in jail were accounted for by her sentence for the slander of Patrick Lumumba, of which she remains convicted. She is only on temporary release and remains on trial for murder until the Italian supreme court speaks. She is not 'free', since her conviction prevents her from travelling.

@Pinkforestt Hellmann can't change his verdict. It's a question of what the supreme court makes of that verdict. Italian trials come in three parts and we haven't had Part III yet. Since Hellmann rejected without explanation a mass of prosecution evidence never even questioned by the defence (because it's unquestionable), including evidence the supreme court had already ruled good, the supreme court is pretty unlikely to uphold the acquittal.

Rudy Guede has been found GUILTY. He was all over that crime scene. He went out dancing while Meredith bled to death. After a privte talk with the prosecuter, he changed his story.

In court, she also said she was sorry the police rushed to judgement based on a coerced statement. SO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. For example, DNA did not save Patrick. A witness gave alibi. A hand print condemned Guede. Only Guede knows what went on. Even the police admit that Amanda was never in the room. They were at Raffaele's long after she was attacked.

@DupeyDuperton666 To be honest I thought she may well be in care, mainly because of the Doctor reference. Quite often they can say things like this, easpecially when they have contact with Doctors/carers on a daily basis, so I did assume she was likely to be in a home. However, she is still on line at what must be the early hours of the morning there and that does concern me. I will let you know if I hear anything. I'm going to try and calm her down.

Knox has told many lies. but usually the first statement is the truth, and that in her first statement she admitted to being in the house and covered her ears when hearing Meridiths initial screams. What you have to think next which no one knows did she go into her flatmates room to help, or in a drug induced state somehow got involved....anyway she didnt call the police, so if she was not the murderer then she is by law still an accomplice to the crime.

Well just so u know I'm an older American that is fascinated with everything British, the Monarchy and all. Had I ever been able to take a trip overseas it would have been to the UK. You can probably look up about false memories, you can wear a person down enough that you can plant stuff in their mind that they think is real. We had councilors do this to young children regarding sex abuse which ruined peoples lives and it's been done in many criminal cases. all must be filmed now.

@hobitshouse Yes, the independent investigators were hired by the defense but if the original evidence would have been true it would have stood, the judges would have accepted the original and not the second investigation. These "kids" weren't bright enough to clean all thier fingerprints/blood whatever from the crime scene but leave the real killers. As far as the lying that goes back to the way they were interrogated and the Itallians didn't record it...strange if you aske me.

@hobitshouse It seems she had a split lip in the beginning but emotional torture/bullying isn't going to show up. It's not an unusual practice to use a good cop/bad cop approach to interrrogation to get someone to confess but if it goes on too long or is too agressive it can cause false memories if they start putting dif senarios in her head. They should have recorded it, normal procedure in the US as it protects both sides.

Sat on his lap while he was questioned and did cartwheels outside. And u cant count the number of times she smiled her way through the court room. 15 hours of questioning and she comes up with three or four versions of her story and manages to wrongly accuse an innocent man. Naaa. Maybe after 15 weeks of interrogation. But 15 hours? Really?

I just find the whole thing really sad, and for the Kerchers to see the "killers" convicted, and then freed, it must be so hard for them. Utterly in limbo. @hobitshouse Regarding false memories, if you want to look up the McMartin Preschool trials in the 80's, Wikipedia has a good explaination of what happened. Much of this was filmed, these were kids but it also has happened with adults, I'll see if I can find some cases if you want. GoodCop/badcop is a tech used, goodcop is friendly to suspect, asks him general questions, offers him help, he leaves badcop comes in and is mean, wears people down after hrs & sometimes will say anything.

OJ Simpson guilty as hell but aquitted & couldn't stay out of trouble, did you guys hear about Casey Anthony case? Prob killed her 2 yr old, pathological liar, aquitted but have serious doubts she can stay out of trouble. Most people that commit these kind of crimes can't stay out of trouble, if she commits another violent crime I will admit she might have done this one.

Im sure the character played by hurt got hanged and in the end they found out the other guy was a serial killer. Theres a documentary about it on here. A lot of this case formed part of the argument for getting rid of capital punishment in the UK.

Ted Bundy serial killer in the 80's admitted so sure with him but too many killed when doubts remain. TX is the worst state for executions I think. I am in Oregon, none for yrs and we have one guy begging to get on with it. (he was in for life but murdered someone in prison so now on death row and is ready to die but this state is very slow with executions)

@hobitshouse I read 10 Rillington place. wow! Sounds a lot like a case in Chicago, John Wayne Gacy who raped and killed 33 young (teen) boys in the 70's and hid the bodies in floorboards of house and in garden. I once had the misfortune of smelling a body that had been dead in the heat of summer for a month, seems like the smell would have been unbearable. I understand how you feel about execution and can easily be swayed to change my mind on that.

@hobitshouse Regarding the US being tougher on crime, I'm not familiar with the UK in this regard but there was a time here that they got more time for stealing a car then some murders. Now we do have something called measure 11, for some crimes, not just murder but repeat offenders etc, they have to serve the full sentence, no time off for good behavior etc so sometimes it's good but we still seem to convict innocent peeps too often imho.

@hobitshouse They are getting tough on pedifiles here, a local guy raped his own kids (they had never gone to school), kids so damaged that foster mom says if you try to take thier picture they pose seductively, the oldest one is about 8 I think. They can't socialize or be around other kids. He got 50 yrs but the mom, who knew what he was doing & did nothing only got 3 but gratefully she'll never see her kids again. This was a measure 11 crime so he'll be about 90 when released.

@nancylp400 Well, I'd bring back castration for these bastards, and brand their foreheads with a big P. A friend of mine runs a nursing home and is privvy to info regarding people on the sex register in the area where she works. She cant tell anyone, but she did say, you would be amazed at how many there are. Its truly scary. And they r allowed to wonder the streets free? Its wrong.

@hobitshouse We can get lists of registered sex offenders in our zip codes (postal codes, don't know if you use them), gives addresses and sometimes pictures. There is a P next to the ones considered to be preditors. I agree with the castration.

@nancylp400 zip codes, post codes is our version. But they are protected here. Only those in the authorities are allowed to know, and even they have a hard time finding out. Thats what I mean about us being a bit soft. Human rights gone mad I'm afraid

@hobitshouse Wow! Sex offender lists are public info here, anyone can get them, as a matter of fact there is a protest going on downtown for the past wk, people sleeping there etc and the police just went there to inform them that a homeless sex offender lists that park as his home.

@hobitshouse They can sue all they want but how are they going to prove it wasn't true since they didn't record the interrogation? It's been said that SHE can sue them for wrongful prosecution and she has the proof they screwed up but I'm sure she has no intention of going back to Italy to do that. I guess she could send her attorneys there on her behalf, I doubt she would have to be there, thier mistakes are well documented.
