I know this might sound weird and a bit insensitive, but it seems odd to have a story/song about a catholic cathedral/Jesus in Hebrew. Don't get me wrong, its an interesting dub, just seems a bit odd is all.

Beautiful language, even if the only part I could understand of the song was the name Elohim. I love that name. It says so much about God's nature. Of course, so do all of His names and titles. Elohim is one of my favorites.

maybe only then when i was a child at least a smaller child and i didn't know english good enough to watch films at all
'cause when films are translated to other langueges there's a certain period of time where the sentences must be said at and sometimes that time is simply not enough especially in far eastern films 'cause they speak fast
my advice is if you know english and good don't waste time watching the films in your native language

Dubs are useful though. For children or those who just don't speak the film's language (fair enough) or for those learning a new language. Disney films are familiar with everyone so when being introduced to a new language, it's easy to know what is happening. I largely agree with your comment though. Films are always better in their original languages.

Yes, "children at heart" watch Disney films as you say, but that barely refutes (it more or less reinforces) the point that this was targeted towards children, and that it's pretty daft to criticize the English dub because it's "childish" when that's not a bad trait for the movie.
As I said many times before we are all kept with the right to feel see and interpret an art master piece as we find correct. You might disagree with me whether such freedom really exists but I find it hard to take away from all of us, children, children at heart and adults the ability to see beyond the artist's intentions.

Take, for example, the lack of a proper "L" in the Japanese language. This isn't a bad thing, merely a trait of a language that evolved completely separate from English.

I've watched plenty of anime and foreign movies in my time, and theres PLENTY of characters whose names changes when translated to english. Or they simply changed it. Same with being translated FROM english into another language. Most of the subtitles on my dvds dont say half of what their saying onscreen, just to add.

Yiddish and Hebrew, are no where near as similar as spanish and french. Yiddish is mostly like german, and hebrew is not. Yiddish does have a lot of hebrew words though. So its like english and spanish.

Yes, the lyrics are different from the original. For example, in the first stanza she's supposed to ask "weren't you an outcast too?" instead of "so I ask myself why is it like that?"

Beautiful movie. Hunchback of Notre Dame is my favorite Disney. It has like the best message in it. This scene makes me cry itsbeautiful. the Hebrew version is very beautiful too. ^_^
First off, I love both the English and Hebrew versions of this song. They are gorgeous.
One of the most beautiful things about this song is actually 0:47-0:48 when you hear somebody whisper His name in a prayer. I'm a Christian, so that had special meaning to me. Another absolutely beautiful part was when Ezmerelda was walking through the candles. That was some stunning animation there.
You kinda right except that "Harabim" means "the many". But the word Rabi exists also in Hebrew and means My Rabbi and is also used reffered to god or anyone else superior of you, it comes from the word Rav which means "the superior" or in common Hebrew just a Rabbi. you can notice those words are all of the same root.
I must also point out that Tzadik in Hebrew means "a Righteous person", someone who always do good things and has the right decisions. It mostly used in Judaism to describe a person who follows the rules and so has a strong connection to god.
No offence but i prefere arabic more... hebrew is beautiful but i think arabic has a better flow. less emphsis on the "KHA" and less use of "SH" and "KHA"
Even in a different language, the beauty and prayer-like quality of this song is clearly shining forth!

what you wrote is absolute rubish. you are either misinformed or a very hateful and dishonest person.
btw, "nirdafim" means "persecuted" in hebrew.
the most accurate hebrew translation for "outcasts" is "menoodim".

i love this in Hebrew. i think that Hebrew is better at being expressive than English (and English is a pain to sing, compared to others). but is the translation still the same from English to Hebrew? are any phrases changed and how so?

Yes, the lyrics are different from the original. For example, in the first stanza she's supposed to ask "weren't you an outcast too?" instead of "so I ask myself why is it like that?"

there is a slight difference you see the israelians are mostly jews and that song is some-what a christian , so they made it instend of asking the statue for helping the poor she woundering why that happening it's remind my the holocaust when people were chased only because they were different.

also, when esmeralda starts to sing, it should say "tfilat tzoaniya" instead of "latzoaniya", and later "lanirdafim, na azor elohim" instead of "lanirdafim ya'azor elohim"

is this due to faulty translations or deliberate mistranslations (sometimes, when singing in a foreign language the words are not pronounced in song the way they would be in speech. something about sound/rhythm combinations)?

Beautiful movie. Hunchback of Notre Dame is my favorite Disney. It has like the best message in it. This scene makes me cry itsbeautiful. the Hebrew version is very beautiful too. ^_^

First off, I love both the English and Hebrew versions of this song. They are gorgeous.
One of the most beautiful things about this song is actually 0:47-0:48 when you hear somebody whisper His name in a prayer. I'm a Christian, so that had special meaning to me. Another absolutely beautiful part was when Ezmerelda was walking through the candles. That was some stunning animation there.

You kinda right except that "Harabim" means "the many". But the word Rabi exists also in Hebrew and means My Rabbi and is also used reffered to god or anyone else superior of you, it comes from the word Rav which means "the superior" or in common Hebrew just a Rabbi. you can notice those words are all of the same root.

I must also point out that Tzadik in Hebrew means "a Righteous person", someone who always do good things and has the right decisions. It mostly used in Judaism to describe a person who follows the rules and so has a strong connection to god.
