  • Here's what Peter Pettinger wrote in his Evans biography about Bill's technique for this session: At ballad tempo he moved along gently behind the soloist with evenly spaced chords, functionally equivalent to guitar strumming, and simultaneously providing harmony, rhythm, and a a cushion for his colleague. In doing so he glided smoothly without accents, demonstrating--along with the ability to sing--another non-percussive use of his instrument.
