  • @JAYBMWM3 think in the box kid

  • Good..

  • its cool seeing people doing new things. besides i bet everbody tried this once after seeinyour video.

  • @MrXxMCRxx Hello :), thanks for the compliment :D.

    Gl making ;)

  • What type of plants are those ?

  • Good job!! Just one question what type of plants are those roots hanging from..

  • you NEED i said you NEEEDD a back up filter

  • @zachzachmorgan i got 2 eheim 2217 filters now ,.. these are just diy ideas and filters and work good .

    Take care

  • No chance in hell that will work for turtles, I think mine shits more than me.

  • @dksharktooth ahaha , any way there was a guy with a pond and a turtle tank and they both became nice and crystal clear , it will only take you 5 minutes and use a big bottle ;).

    TAKE CARE

  • @AweSomo84 Then there is the smell since there is much more waste, that white foam you use won't cut it. A big bottle is an understatement, you need a giant tub for turtle filters or giant canister.

  • @dksharktooth ofourse you need a big bottle and a wide viarty of filter medium not only "" mechanical medium . The white foam = poop and pish and you need to do water changes to get that out or/ and some will be taken out trough plants.

The foam is a good sign for you if they dont pop in 10second you should need to do a water change.

    Takr vcare

  • @AweSomo84 like a 2 liter?

  • I spend my money on weed

  • @TheToanduong yeah , I don't care were people spend their money on ass long as they have fun and enjoy life :)

  • Pretty usefull, If the water goes trough the pump is it filtered or is it just plain dirty water?

  • Hi in ur bottle filter why have you just put filter wool.!!!

Why have you no carbon or that.????

I thought you would have split the media up maybe even gravel or something .??

    Good video good job man.!!

  • @MrCrAzYFo0L Hi The filter media is all up to you :), I only use mechanical filtration in this video, you can add other types so bacteria can stick to , but be careful with carbon it takes oput medicine , iron and bad thing out of the water but one a certain moment it will give it back to the water and making the fish sick /( so replacing it is a must) it also takes out fertilizers.

I only used carbon in a mates aquarium who used medicine in his tank ~~ (and not qurataine tank )

    Peace

  • pause at 4:48

  • @2000Louiemega ?? did i miss something?

  • @AweSomo84 omg pause at 4:48 and theres a face on the second bottle (furthest away). looks like an alien face. lol

  • @fizzed2010 ahaha now i see , they are every where :P

  • @fizzed2010 stoner lol

  • @martyb0y1690 I got 2x 2217 eheim classic filter on it now ( 6 liter each filter medium ) 2x1000 liter a hour.

    Take are.

  • Comment removed

  • @martyb0y1690 this was before i got the eheim filters , and ofkill is never the case ,.. the more filter medium the better .

More bacteria : more piss and poo ))nitrate)) ' will be eaten and become nitrate which is not harmful for the fish and will be taken up trough the plants and taken out by water changes.

    Take care.

    Btw i have a 235 gallon tank now ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @martyb0y1690 its a type sorry, i ment to say it becomes nitrate ,... fish poo and pish = nitrite, bacteria make nitrate of of it and is NOT harmfull for fish and NEEDS to taken out by plants an water changes., This is not true "the only other thing that will take it out is algae and plant growth " You take out nitrate and nitrite - because water( out of the netherlands) tap is clean and will make the amount of nitrate and nitrite less .

The amount of filter media is important to

  • @martyb0y1690 The amount of filter medium is important to housefest the bacteria ,.. these have place to grow - when you add fish or when plants rot ,.. then they will grow .

If you dont add or remove trough vaccuum your gravel etc, water changes takes out bacteria 2 and then they can multiplay from your filtermedium. So it's a good thing to have a lot of filtermdium to keep a stable tank.

    take care

  • Comment removed

  • @martyb0y1690 look at my first replay "this was before i got the eheim filters " , wter movement is also important for the eye and fish . Take care and have a good hobby.

    Peace,

    Erik

  • @martyb0y1690 If you have 0 everything than somethings wrong. You HAVE to have atlas 3ppm of Nitrates or you aren't feeding the ammonia and nitrite to the beneficial bacteria. You 100% sure you are getting 0 nitrates maybe like 1-5ppm? Perhaps you are exaggerating a bit?

  • Comment removed

  • @martyb0y1690 I am aware of this method, it isn't IMO the most consistent one though. I just use my own, java moss with light C02, powerhead and a few aquatic plants.

  • Comment removed

  • @martyb0y1690 Whatever if you like exposing your fish to high levels of ammonia nitrites or nitrates.

  • Have you thought of filling one with K1 ?

  • it's nice what you doing but it make your aqrium ugly

  • hey man were do you buy the wool

  • @smokercat22 at a pet store and pharmacy

  • @smokercat22

You can also order it from a well know auction site, as i have done in the past.

  • Hi, i really like the idea and am def gonna do this myself to my juwel filter. 1 question tho, what was the purpose of adding the half bottle to the impellor? Without it i guess the impellor could still sit in its original position? or does that provide other benefits that i'm missing? Many thanks BTW

  • @t1mc4rt3r Hey good question, I wanted the powerhead to draw the water from the bottom more . You can keep it original ofcourse :),

    Erik

  • i like the line at 4:00 of music

  • @jared1016 me 2 take care and thanks for the comment :)

  • thanks for the tutorial man, found this really useful... :)

    Cheers

  • @jakeboynz hehe thanks :d and you are welcome ,

    Erik

  • great thanks, i also heard that aquarium salt can destroy the live plants. i also use aquarium salt in my fish tank

  • @MrKaoVue Never use salt in a fresh water aquarium m8 , it kills the active bacteria in your aquarium only use salt in sea water aquaria

  • you didnt need to use any carbon or anything? will it still produce good bacteria that the fishes need? will it work in a 10g? :D

  • @MrKaoVue You don't need active carbon and over time all the bad stuff it collected it will give it back over time . Just do regular water changes and use live plants to take down the bad irons in the water . You can add carbon but it also gets out the fertilizers out of the water so i never do or did.

  • so were those bottle just floating on the top off the water?

  • Interesting, I like the way how you used a lighter to heat the plastic (to create a tighter fit). Creative indeed

  • @DiscusKev Thanks :D

  • @DiscusKev :) thanks .

  • Comment removed

  • informative video with your skills it looks like you could make a good bong making tutorial

  • @TheTHUGSTA187 ehehe , yeah man jusrt be creative . Take care,

    Erik

  • use a 2 liter

  • @xxTheReal118xx yeah

  • This looks great, I have a 20 gal tank I have been thinking about creating a canopy and having something like this to put in there. Just wondering how big your tank is and what sort of GPH you get out of this filtration system.

  • @Jrezky Hey i changed the filters to eheim 2217 on that tank but its sold now and i have a much bigger one now, just go with the 2 liter bottles , the more capicity the better .Take care

  • Oh Nice : D !

  • @oishiininja hey thanks :)

  • can you use a air pump

  • @SpiderDriver2456 there is a moddel here on youtube wich use air pump take care

  • What kind of pump are you using?

  • @ollirum7 old pump out of a juwel 60liter .

    PEace

  • What power head are you using?

  • question how you make the water pump up??

  • you said 3 minutes and your clip iz 5 minutes long !

and you aquarium is filthy !!!! puuuuuuuuuuuuuuu !!!!

  • Very practical and basic, will try

  • you're such a pyro. hehe jk. thanks i think i'll make one

  • heyy waht kind of plants do yuh have ??

  • at 1:58 it makes a good sinchronization with the music when he snaps the botle edges.

  • My mother has that thing with the people holding hands. I think it's a little creepy.

  • thats kat!

  • no carbon?

  • Cool project! Gives me all sorts of ideas! Goodonya.

  • hey im interested in making something like this. is the powerhead noisy when plugged in? it's going to be in my room so i don't want too much noise, never had a powerhead :P

    nice filter btw

  • won't the water drip cause u dint put silicone?

  • @9912699125 no thats why you use the lighter

  • @AweSomo84 bcause the plastic melts and u put them 2gether and it works like silicone rite>?

  • @AweSomo84 do you know how to make a sorta undergravel panel?i want to make a filter that can sit on top of my tank, the pump near the filter and water surface and only a tube coming down, but pump still submerged in water,as the pump is too powerful,i want to make a undergravel panel so the suction wont be so powerful...please help!

  • @9912699125 Hey you your comment didnt show in my inbox so sorry for the late responds.

I try to imaging your situation but its kinda hard dont you have a camera?. A pump can never be to strong ;) . Just make the flow go out on a peace of wood or something . About the suction you can use a plastic bottle and make it flat and dril loads of holes and put it underneath the gravel .

    Love and peace,

    Erik

  • @AweSomo84 i have a camera,i try to upload if i have time.....but wont the bottle be curve?

  • 2:45 looks like you burnt your finger haha

  • @awinski999 ahaha :) not that bad :P

  • @AweSomo84 nice,i made one but no good cause i have turtles and not fishes.....making a larger one with other medias

  • @9912699125 some one with turtles mad this filter to and he cot crystal clear water now :), just play around with the filtermedia.

    Take care and love

  • @AweSomo84 who is that person?

  • @AweSomo84 who is the some1?

  • this guy likes burning shit =]

  • @Ultracomet2 hehehe thanks , but it's for the tight fith :)

    Peace,

    E

  • the name of the song?

  • the name of the song?

  • @zlario NATOarts, and further i dont iknow they deleted the optyions of the statics :s

  • the name of the song?

  • It´s only filterwool you add in there? If you would want to add other media like gravel bio balls or activated carbon could you add these and in what order?

  • @redking133 Hey good questions and thanks for the comment.

You always put the filter media from Rough to fine . So you add rough spunzes in the beginning than the active cole and than the filterwhool. But becarefull with the active cool it takes out the heavy metals and fertilizers and just over time it will stop doing that and doing the oppesite ,.. giving off all the nasty trhings you don't want.

Only use the active cole when you used medicine , to filter it out. And just use live plants :)

  • @AweSomo84 can i ask if i can use sponge that is for washing utensils as the filter media?

  • dont understand why you cut the bottle in half ????? just poke the filter media through the lid opening !!!!

    other than that rather cool

  • @bigupBOOMAandFERTZ you want to clean the media right , you cant just keep trowing away the filter media it holds your precious bacteria , that's why you always rins the media with cold water.

Thanks for the great comment ,

    Love and peace,

    Erik

  • @AweSomo84 AHHHHHH YEAAAAAAHHH JUST ONE OF THEM D'oh! MOMENTS NOW ITS PERFECT FOR ME TO TRY LOL

    SHALOAM

  • @bigupBOOMAandFERTZ hehhee great and no problem , tell me how it went and if you have questions just ask me.

    Take care,

    Erik

  • Dude once again nice video!! Imma be like you one day lol.

  • @romeonmya thanks man i have loads of video's though.

How did it work out with your aquarium it seems you never massaged back to me.

    Did you change it?

    Peace,

    Erik

  • bravo

  • heheh thank you :D,

    Erik

  • Why the bottle tube on the pump? THanks

  • because most people only have a powerhead in there aquarium or a small filter, this way you can add on every pomp a extra big filter and you can make it for your self very easy.

The bottle is because you dont want leaks and its a good way to make a big tight filter and cheap .

Take care and thanks for the question,

    Erik

  • Yah i wanna know the floating plants too!

  • Heheh oke oke :P * Eicchornia crassipes (waterhyacint) * Hydrocharis morsus-ranae (kikkerbeet) * Pistia stratiotes (mosselplantje) * Salvinia natans (vlotvarentje) * Trapa natans (waternoot)

Phyllanthus fluitans and Pistia stratiotes are wich i have here in the video and keep in mind that they never take more than 2/3 of the survice of your aquarium .

    Peace and love

  • nICE work...you got great taste in music. what are the floating plants?

  • Thanks my friend , pff i need to look that up be responding on that later.

    Love,

    Erik

  • no offense but it seems like ur a good fish owner but poor filter maker :p sry

  • @delaacoco got 2217 eheim filters now and it's a very good filter and it's DIY made DO it self with no tools what so ever i think you don't understand that part .

  • um a knife and a lighter are classed as tools

  • yup do it your self tools yeah, which every one has in his home ;)

  • So i mean to say that every one can make this filter with out buying or having tools ;)

  • explain further like what happens to the side that would normally flow out and did you put the top half of the bottle on the other half too? and what about the rest of the tubing?

  • that's just the in take of the power-head so i can put rough filter material in there so the big stuff wont go in the bottle but in that spons(filter media) you could leave that bottle off but the other bottle with the to halves will get full of shit and i dont think it's good for the powerhead to cut up all the heavy junk , i just added a tube on the power head to the bottle and filter material inside of it , put the bottle together and you have a good extra filter. Hope i answered ur questions

  • Hi! Can you help me with a couple of things? I am a real noob and need as much advise on planted tanks from the old timers. T_T

Here're my questions: Is it okay to use a SUMP with planted tanks? And what material did you use to blacken your aquarium background? Cardboard? Please help! =D

  • ehehe no problem m8, their are no bad questions only bad answers .

I don't use a sump , I use fertalizers and 2 different types of ;lights ( lights are good for 6 months and then they are not giving enough PHOTOSYNTHESIS for the plants.

The back ground is from jewel , love and peace,

    Erik

  • why do you cut the bottle in half?

  • did you watch the video??,

You cant add any filter material eh ;)

  • I need to show this to my brother he would love it.

  • It worded out perfectly and =can be added on any powerhead :)

    Love,

    Erik

  • what are your floating plants called?

  • I have 3 kinds of them, will look them up for ya in a minute.

    Love

  • does this needs a auarium pump?

  • yes it does

  • nice video

    what song is this??

  • thanks for ths video

  • Your welcome :)

  • i put it in my 200 gallon turtel tank and the next day the water was crystal clear

  • That great to hear :D

    Any video's 200 gallons s huges!!!

    Love and peace,

    Erik

  • Cool Thx

  • Yw:)

  • where can i get the stuff to do that

  • The petstore and local super market.

    Peace

  • how mutch is a water pump

  • only 260l/h

  • Why are you burning that plastic? When you burn those they let out weird chemicals into the water.Thats mainly why they tell you not to reuse plastic water bottles,

  • Good point!, but i think this is only with the burning progress or that it's getting hot.

Still a good point, I have big eheim filters now :)

  • how does the pump work out by having it on a bottle piece

  • so it sucks the water from one side , and blows it trough these media .

    Peace

  • how big of a pump did you use??

  • 260 liter/h

  • oh that makes alot of sence!! thanks so much.

    Peace, Chris

  • Hey Chris,

Funny yougot the same name as my brother.

You're welkom my friend , glad to be of some help.

    Erik

  • Oh ya this isnt realy fish related but can you give me some tips for filming i made some videos yesterday and they were really crappy. (camra and filming wise)

i need help with tripods posts, like how you did it in this video.

    Thanks Alot,

    Peace, Chris

  • Hey Man ,

I just bought this ipod and put it between my legs.

Make sure that the sun comes from the back of your head and the camera.

Put the camera on a slight angle giving better quality.

    Peace and love,

    Erik

  • Also are you saying that i probably shouldnt use carbon pads? Or dose just regular carbon work? I change that pads every week if that helps not putting the metals back. and the water conditioner i use also takes out ammonia, heavy metals, and clorine. and nitrite+nitrate

    Peace, Chris

  • Hey Man,

I do not use carbon pats .

I clean my filter pads with cold water so the active bacteria will stay alive , who take down the ammonia and nitrite and make nitrate out of it.,

    Peace,

    Erik

  • Hey Erik, i saved like $900 on filters! I made LIke 15 of your filters and some of my own, and quaqa's and some others lol. made most of yours though. I love'em.

I also added carbon pads, ammonia pads, and large sponge to it.

    Good Luck,

    Peace, Chris

  • Hehe that's great to hear!!.

Keep in mind that the carbon pats take out heavy metals etc , but after a while they can add it back to the water.

Better use loads of plants , to take out the heavy metals from your water.

Carbon pads all so take out fertilizers .

Just do 25% water change a week with clean the gravel ofcourse and loose the carbon pad , and you will never have any problems.

    Only happy fish :)

    Thanks you 2,

    Erik

  • Hey Erik, this is Chris i was wondering if could make a video on how to make a plant substrate to help plants grow. Flourite and other gravels and sands are getting kinda expensive so....got any good ideas? appreciate it if you did. I cant seem to get the right materials. And its really hard to put in those plant liquids in every day! (Its hard to measure!)

    Good Luck,

    Peace, Chris

  • Hey Chris,

Good question , since your plants take 70% of their fertilizer out of the water and 30% with their roots .

I usually just remove everything around the plant their roots and put them in my gravel ( 10 year old gravel ) , I add fertilizer every week (halve doss , because it's mostly heavy metals )

I all so have DIY co2 with a clean bottle in between to take out the alcohol etc , connected to my 2211 eheim ( check out one of my video's)

    Peace and love

  • Hey Erik/AweSomo i don't think you know who i am but letten u know i made your filter last night and it works great!! also i am another guy who makes aquarium thing too. Also i would really appreciate it if you watched some of my videos! Oh ya where can you put the bottles if you dont have a open hood like yours? 5 stars! please respond, Thx

    Thanks,

    Peace Chris

  • Hey Chirs,

Thanks for your awesome comment .

Great man I hope it really helps .

If you don't have a hood like mine you can always put the bottle just above the water level in some way .

    I'll take a look right now .

    Peace,

    Erik

  • i would drill that thing, if the knife would glip off and cut your hand =(

  • agreed but very hard to drill

  • Just do my way , much better. Peace and love.

    Remember perfect fit :P

  • too much hassle.. invest $100 in eheim classic filter instead and you just clean the equipment once a month.. thats it.. nice work though for the poorman

  • Hey Man ,

    Funny you mansion it , I bought 4 eheim classic filters , a 2217 , 2215 and 2x a 2211 . They are doing a fantastic job.

    Take care,

    Erik

  • OMG!!! AMAZING AQUARIUM!

    what size? 125?

  • Hey Man,

    Thanks , the aquarium is 1 meter 60 x 50 x50 = 400 liters = 103 gallons

I bought 2 eheim external pumps for the aquarium now a 2217 and a 2211.

Take a look here /watch?v=wSuSCXxabjo for a better look of the aquarium

  • Why the powerhead has piece of bottle on it? btw awsome filter =))

  • because i had some spuns in there for the little fish other wise they would get chupped up :P

    Thanks peace and love,

    Erik

  • Ahh ok peace and love to you too =3
