It's a hurdy-gurdy. The winding mechanism is a common feature. It's not digitalized though - it may be amplified but in fairness it's sound is generally quite clear and loud.

@gaarddarkwitch That would be a hurdy-gurdy. There are many versions from simple boxes to ornate renaissance styles. One maker describes it as a kind of mechanical violin Where instead of drawing a bow across strings, a rosined wheel inside is rotated by crank to rub continuously across the strings.  Instead of pressing strings with fingers, the fingers press sliding keys that shorten the vibrating length of the string, raising or lowering the notes. Google for some makers and images!
