hello frodo, how have you been? I saw a video here and would like to ask you more information. what settings you used in this video to configure the desktop? where to find the theme? where to find the icons for the cairo dock? I appreciate your attention. Thank you!
@firestonegraywolf You are wrong! The entire GUI is running on the GPU! The CPU is hardly involved. If these effects are enabled small netbooks with GPU run even smoother and faster, because the GUI will not load on the CPU. These effects do not interfere with the workflow completely. Linux ist eben etwas anders als Windows. ;o)
@firestonegraywolf Dude. Yes, this demonstration was VERY busy and does not represent a norm working envrmnt. But thats bc its purpose was to showcase as many of the qualties as possible in 2.5 min. Do burn-away windows help my workflow? Nope. But all of that stunning window management and 3D pop up cube windows actually REALLY do. I am like 10X faster on my Linux than on my Mac and 100X faster than on Windows. And its NOT the hardware. Its just easier to get things done!
whats your set up message me ilike this im rocking my own lil theme with the cube and all what did you enable to your windows im running ubuntu 11.04 ,cario, compiz idk if i got kde running thou i think i got unity running still
@Johnny5liter Depends on what you want to learn. Linux can be anything from a compltely CLI system to what you saw in this video. I, for example, use linux with an extremely simplistic interface that has no panels or anything whatsoever. When I log in, I am greeted with a black screen. It takes no time at all to load, though. It all depends on what you want. I'd say the simplest to learn is Ubuntu linux. Go to ubuntu.com to find out more...
@veropooh90 i think you can do somthing simular with windows but your best bet is to install linux along side or a hard install cuz windows cant keep up with linux programs linux is like a Ferrari when it comes to speed cuz it takes less to run
Linux always has cool desktops but i still fail to see the point other then looking neat. i use Linux often and i install compiz and all that stuff but you know i never ever use all those neat effects unless i am showing my system off to a friend. so other then showing off i don't see the point in it.
man how did u add the sffects of when we move thhe folder it moves like strechable plastic when it open it opens in a folded way plz tell me abiut these sffects plz i will b thnkful 2 yA if u help me in getting these osum effects btw nice video but plz plz help me :(
ok! now what im looking for is. the ability to stop centering few on that obect that is in front of us. and to be able to use that view cam freely and move about and create more objects like this
but better than just a cube
like 3 dimensional
or even a 4 dimensional desktop
like i want my desktop to look like a monster from shadows of the colossus. ... not just a cube. and i want my cam to be the first person of a ..rpg type character
I was having trouble with unity interfering with the compiz and cairo deck. I just switched to xubuntu and everything works just fine. I really didn't like the look and feel of ubuntu 11.10 anyway. Thanks for the reply.
@chuasmare22 In fact, it is impossible. Try enabling or disabling some window effects. Bam. Your whole desktop breaks and you have to delete your config files and start over again. I prefer to use 10.04, as it is much faster and much more customizable.
@5965665 Use it with another window manager. This, however, might not look as good and may have more bugs. I suggest you switch to an alternate version of ubuntu such as kubuntu or xubuntu. There it should work fine, as there is no system customization in those versions.

This just goes to show that people actually perform better and innovate more *without* a profit motive than they do *with* a profit motive.
