I been driving long enough to get 11million miles of seat time. Anyone that says ABS is for newbies and that a semi can stop shorter has never used it before. My newer rig has it and it's saved my ass more then once. I totalled one rig years back and had it has ABS my rig would not have been lost.this guy shows how it let's u steer with brakes on it works.
This vid is pointless. Have a close look at the surfaces. The vid pretends equal conditions, which isn't the case. "With ESP" the truck drives on snow which provides a relatively good amount of grip while "without ESP" it rolls on glassy ice.
ESP sucks as does ABS. It may be good for beginners or those who will never learn to master a vehicle. For experienced drivers especially ABS is a disadvantage. In fact it extends the braking distance. Thank God trucks have the feature to switch it off.
@schl0tte: "For experienced drivers especially ABS is a disadvantage." -> Not everyone of us is a professional racing driver. For the _average_ driver these electronic systems add a lot of safety and they help to prevent deadly accidents.
ABS is never a disadvantage. If you are experienced as you say you should be able to break hard without getting the ABS on. It is called as limit breaking fyi. Breaking hard doesnt mean hit the break pedal as hard as you can if you are experienced and mastered a vechicle you should know this. Else ABS is a big advantage for you.
In Europe they require CC bumpers on the side too-it's the law. In the US it's only at the back .When a car hits a trailer it can easily become a cabrio whith the roof and the drive's head gone.
MAN on ice - that's amazing! Maybe you want to post the video for the MAN video competition? Have a look on our channel „myMANstory! Peter from the MAN-team.
The last few years in Europe, I figured out what the guards are for around the lugnuts, and the side skirts along the trailer are for.
Being the streets are so freakin narrow there, these guards keep pedestrians from getting caught into and under the wheels
Pretty clever safety features, and this guy is just having way too much fun
Delivering 54k lbs of mail in the winter, the only time the rig got sideways was women spinning out in front of me. She was lucky I made it by and recovered

Tons of fun! The plastic side skirts are mainly to improve MPG's but do a pretty good job of keeping people out too! lol

I'm actually referring to the 3 rail guards between the wheels, and the nut cover rings.
I help transport super singles in the Volvo's, and Man trucks in Amsterdam.
The best tour of Amsterdam is riding in these.
I blew it by having to drive, vs having video with.
A pit stop for coffee has it's rewards there. :)

the side skirts are to keep out cars;
