  • genius

  • I know where dismonds come from it aint about the bling... Great line!!! Teacher told us about thid guy he's awesome

  • A friend sent me a video of his, and I explored his work right up to his high school days.

  • The irony is hes a "poet" not really a MC or rapper, but in reality he is far beyond any 'rapper' or MC. Not only did he blow them all away but he actually loves and cares for everyone in the game playing it in the most exploitive way.

  • i love this peom

  • rate!!!

  • art.

  • wow. that was the deepest thing I've heard all week. thank you whomever loaded this. I will look up for Saul Williams stuff!

  • Dude... I wish my english was good enough to understand the improvisation in the end (i'm brazilian)...

Can someone write what he sings in the end??? (where the last chorus suppose to be)

  • original truth that i cant experience but my god i can appriciate it.

  • 2:05 is amazing.....

Well the whole thing is amazing really....

  • great.

  • dont hate... saul is good at what he does

  • I generally hate slam poetry but this is truly amazing. Shows me I've probably just been prejudiced against the form, because this guy just makes it into a work of art - the stuff I'd heard before was pretty average.

  • @sverrg I love slam poetry, but there is some pretty bad slam poetry out there, and a lot of it is also just hit or miss for me. I kind of have to search for the stuff I really like. Find it in yourself to give it a chance, because when you find the poets that speak to you it's wonderful.

  • @tehmarzvotla i think im in the same boat. any suggestions?

  • @VicariousShred My three favorites are Saul Williams, Andrea Gibson, and this dude named Korim.

  • amazing

  • Saul is such an amazing poet. So deep. Love it.

  • This is amazing.

  • Its a poem not a song...lol...I LOVE IT

  • I see the human body as a mechanical system,

can it be we make robots in a human for because were robotic,

are sidistic democratz like binlarden, hitler and bush errors in the system,

Destroying ooour complexism from the inside,

    SYSTEM OVER RIDE,

our software depleated, our machanicalism defeated HUMAN WE ARE..

  • Our grammar completely untaught too, apparently.

  • in a poem unproper grammar is used a tool, a very legit tool, and can be used in many types of writing, obviously you didnt pay attention in english class

  • Obviously you didn't read the comment I was responding to, although I can't seem to find the exact comment even considering it was only a little over two weeks ago.

  • Love his lyrics* First thing I noticed when I first heard him was damn this guy can write :) He has this great way of being honest, vulnerable and even funny, great lyricist* "Send my regards to brooklyn" Oh and he's even great off the top of his dome, he's got some great spoken word stuff he's done on the spot :)

  • wrong video :D

  • Oh I know I was just throwing that line just cause I like it :)

  • Beautiful, powerful!

  • I saw him yesterday and he was like ten times better than this and is amazing and so inspirational

    Woooooooh!

    Go Saul!!!

  • lucky=)

  • This blows me away every time I see it

  • That was amazing....it leaves you speechless.

  • Buy his books.

I own 2 of them. That is how I discovered him.

Books can be good. They still work without electricity and the internet.

  • which ones? I have all of them, they are all great =)

  • What is it called??

  • "...said the shotgun to the head", among others.

  • this is incredible to see live. he was the reason i began writing. i forever owe him a debt of gratitude and can only dream of some day inspiring like he has. his words are a grace upon this earth. its a shame that blissful ignorance prevents some from seeing the beauty. one

  • O.O Its the same way for me. Children of the Night is my favorite. Its inspiring and humbling to to hear, watch or read him speak.

  • indigo is my favorite by Saul, they took it off of youtube but i found it again

  • I'm touched by this. I see a brilliant, sensitive person. I've never been a racist and this shows why I never will be...

  • What brilliance.

  • EXELLENT!!!

  • I think he's awesome.

  • woooo i'm FINALLY seeing him tonight yeeeeaaahhhhhman

  • now if only some of those commercial rappers would take a leaf out of this guys book.....

  • Fucking agreed.

  • @AbstractTurntablist i feel u on commercial rappers but i stil cant get past seconds 16-18 am i confused or did this mothafuka say he used to rape the girls between 1 an 10.. no he cold mean 1 am - 10 pm or 1pm to 10 am but this nigga said rape so in my head he was tlkn bout my daughter whos one an my lil cuzn whos 10 an everywhere inbetween!!!!

  • @jdhommer i think he's saying "rate". Him and his cousin used to RATE the girls between 1 and 10. at least i hope that is wahat he's saying!! =)

    peace

  • @jdhommer He said "rate" NOT "rape"...come on man, you're better than that...

  • @henoka Actually I think he says "rank".

  • @bethwenner You are 100% right. Good catch.

  • Dohh-pe!

  • "im not 50 cent no im not bulletproof u can take a aim but u cant kill da turth" WOOOW

  • holy shit.

    that was BRILLIANT.

    the last part especially.

"i know where diamonds come from it aint about the bling"

  • BRILLIANT!

  • EXCELLENT.

  • Now... how can i get a copy of this CD after a year of being released? can't find it anywher!!!!

  • YES! I totally agree. He came to our school and in addition to being AMAZED by the poetry, I couldn't belive how sweet and sincere and chill he was. LOVE YOU SAUL!!!

  • Such a beautifl man with a beautiful sentiment.......we need this guy, like seriously. He's so great live and ther eis a real sense about him that he is completely sincere and passionate...a voice of change

  • This is a true gift from above

  • i wanna hear saul and the rooots do a song together.

  • ok thanks ive only just started listening to saul so i still need to learn all the songs haha

  • that wuld luk cuul in calligraphye.

  • Wow...

  • "I got a Heart Beat Produced By God! And yo It sounds Hard"

    Hella Underrated!!!...

  • I was confused about this bit, sit souns hard or sounds hot

  • When I sing it I alternate. :D

  • *is it sounds hard or sounds hot

sorry typo, i meant I am confused about what the lyrics are for that bit, i love Saul Williams, no need for a thumbs down lol.

  • Godly

  • This is great. Saul is a pure genius with soul for days.

  • can't kill the truth..... nothing but heart in this!!!!

  • GENIUS...

  • he's fucking awesome

  • soooo crazy i didn't like being dark either until i got older..... TOOO REAL

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW>>>BEST THING I EVER HEARD.,.. I THINK I LIKE THIS MORE THAN TR(N)IGGER, and Penny for your Thoughts. This is....not even a word to describe it.

  • No shit. Best performance ever.

  • Could someone help me with the last few lines? I am german and do not get them exactly.

'Yo I'm tied that loose' ?

    'line missing'

    and then lateron:

'Here's what you need to do:'

'Just hold [...] to your heart'

'I got a heartbeat produced by god [...]'

    Thanks, appreciate.

  • I think is was "Yo, untie that noose. Son, we ain't free, we're loose"

    and

"Just hold that mic right to your heart and hear it.

I got a heartbeat produced by God and it sounds hard."

  • This is amzing!!!!!

    Period

  • Hey black stacey!!! Good poem.

  • fucking beautiful, man! how does this dude not have a billion views?!

i just found out about saul williams like, a couple of days ago, so yeah...it's exciting

  • because he is speaking the truth. if he went mainstream he would make no money. All them other artists dont have SHIT on Saul Williams!!

  • this ma man.

  • Ahah, people speak up even in poetry readings.

Why do you think you snap during quiter poetry readings? Showing exictement, agreeing with words, or whatever.

Why do people yell and shout or bust out a "BUH BUH" during spoken word? It's high-energy, and mind blowing.

  • I've actually seen Saul perform in person and even got a chance to meet and talk to him. I was quite disappointed. This is one arrogant prick. Gifted artist but arrogant as f*ck.

  • TALK ABOUT IT. REAL SHIT.

  • wooooooo0000ooooooow

  • that deserves a HUGE standing ovation!!!! it was so beautiful

...aint nothing more beautiful and more sweet than the truth itself :D

  • Added some music for fun. badongo(dot)com(slash)file(slash)10784457

  • 3:37-3:41.....holy cow

  • I hate it when the audience makes all those annoying noises. Cheer if you like but don't do this whole "wooo, oo YEAH MAN!" bs.

    it's a poetry reading, not a concert.

  • i know i hate that too. let him do his thing. when he said he is not bullet proof but you cant kill the truth i almost turned off my computer.

Saul Williams is speaking the truth

  • I hated hearing the people complain about the audience's interaction. Ask ANY performer, and they'll tell you they appreciate it.

  • thats all good but when the audience interaction gets so loud to where the money i paid to hear Saul gets drowned out by an audience member im gonna be mad. I pad to see Sau...i didnt pay to have to sshh an audience member

  • I think that's a really bizarre way of looking at it. I can understand if you want to read Saul's book in peace, or even if you want to chill at home and watch videos on youtube. But going to a show is an experience, and crowd interaction puts power behind the words.

I don't go to a hockey game and expect every to be sedate. I don't go to a concert and believe everyone should be hush-hush.

A really good example of a crowd's role in performance is in any of Jared Paul's if you check that out

  • this is not a poetry reading. it's a performance, and the audience definitely should be able to speak back to him.

  • i love him woooooooooooooooww

  • increible

  • 3:27-3:30 Legend!!!

  • its not rap its hip hop ( i love saul )

  • BRILLIANT!!!

  • WORD!!

  • sentence

  • LOL. Exclamation!

  • "You can take your aim, but you can't kill the truth."

    Best

  • Goddamn. Chills. Don't think I've ever heard of anyone with such a command of language and universal truth simultaneously. What a powerful combination.

  • i know where diamonds come from. its not about the bling

  • He is so unbelievably amazing. I love Saul.

  • This is great! Thanks for sharing.

  • Art at its truest!

    beautiful

  • Saul is the illest.

  • beautiful art, makes me proud to be human

  • He would be so much more inspiring if he spoke as an atheist. I can't relate to the source of his passion. I just need to see proof of the awesome power of man, devoid of claims of religious help. Excuse my self-absorbed bantering.

  • It's cool. Your atheism is just as valid as Saul's mysticism. I've got nothing else :).

  • Saul really seems to believe in himself, and the power of humans.

"YOU are God, you best believe

don't waste your time down on your knees

    it's everybody for themselves

you have the fire and the cross

don't save your soul it's sour loss

    collective soul, collective well"

  • If people are leaving racist comments dont respond to them.

  • good lyrics but im not a fan of the musical sound of this song

  • Such a beautiful man.

  • and TALENTED!

  • amazingly awesome.

  • this man is my hero!

he should team up with zach when rage gets back together!

  • shut the fuck up!

  • A majority of white musicians (if you can even really call them that) are the ones crying now adays in country music. "Gee Bill, my wife left me. My little girls growing up and turnin' into a slut. Well hot damn, my truck broke down." Please, when someone is doing commercials for a Ford truck, it's about as souless as rap music. Merle haggard and Waylon Jennings are rolling over in their graves. Not to mention all the sissy emo horseshit out today.

  • Well put.

  • So true.

  • I think you're being pretty racist here, a MAJORITY of white musicians?! crazy exaggeration and pretty racist yourself. There's white rappers, there's black country singers, who cares?

just to shatter your stereotypes here, I hate country music and like this song, and Saul, i just think it's a shame that most of his stuff on here is littered with racist comments.really don't think Saul cares what kind of person listens to his music or makes music, why would you?

  • No, it would have been racist if I said ALL of the white musicians. Plus, it's not racist if it's true, it's fact. And how are you "shattering" any stereotype? What stereotype is there? Did I say "nigger" or "honkey?" No, so the next time you talk please try and think before you speak.

  • well out of all the musicians that are white in the world are THE MAJORITY of them playing country music and doing what you said? the music I listen to happens to be made be about 90% white musicians, and it also happens to be 100% not country music, does that mean that all these massive bands I listen to are in the minority?

  • Now a days, any music group that isn't rap or hip hop is the minority.

  • you can be racist without name calling, yeah you could be a hell of a lot worse, just saying, there's no need to group white musicians (if you can call them that, bit much there too, like saying your skin colour affects the music you could ever think of making) into a small stereotypical group of whining country musicians

    and I did think.

  • Someone attacked blacks to one extreme so I did the same for another.

  • If you think Rap is soulless then you're listening to the wrong rap music.

  • That was supposed to be in response to a comment by pigd1666. Youtube can't handle my comment.

    Anyway, Saul Williams is amazing.

  • Mostly everyone is listening to the wrong rap. Why is it that pointless artists get the big airplay or why s it that artists, ACTUAL artists don't get the respect they deserve? That's what I'm talking about.

  • overseerczr, Shut the fuck up.
