@movieman410 The first is from that film King Arthur, the main song thoughout the middle is the Promise by Within Temptation, and I can't remember where I got the bagpipe music from
There was a comment about how the entire series centers around Taran (which is very true) and how, if the books were made into films, that wouldn't work. Film writers can take some liberties with things like that. They'd make it about the companions more than just the main protagonist while still showing that he is. And with the fourth book, I agree, there's no way anyone could get away with not including Eilonwy (except, you know, Lloyd Alexander). They'd put her in flashbacks or something?
Never doubt that they could be made into monumentous, epic films. Look what finally happened with LOTR over 50 years after it was written: $2,000,000,000.00 in revenue. The right people can make it happen. :)
I would not be surprised if Disney makes The Chronicles of Prydain into movies shortly after they finish the Chronicles of Narnia movies. Think about it. If there was ever a time to make the Prydain movies, it's during these present years, where fantasy movies are very highly regarded, numerous as never before, and expected to be well-made. I expect Disney could adapt them very well, even with the darker overtones (which we would want anyway). They were written as young adult novels, after all.
@ObiWanBillKenobi well in 1985 they did produce an animated version of The Black Cauldron. from what i heard it was a Box-Office failure but i have just recently borrowed it from a friend and i really loved it.
@switchfoot423 Yes, I'm aware, and I've seen it, but too long ago to remember if it was good or bad. Lloyd Alexander said that it beared no resemblance to the books, but it was enjoyable on its own. I was referring to *real* movies, like this fan trailer or the recent Narnias. :D
@ObiWanBillKenobi yes that would be rather interesting...and yes the 1985 animation was sort of similar to the books but there are some HUGE differences. i actually read the series just last week for the first time after watching the movie for the first time 2 weeks ago
@ObiWanBillKenobi - that would be great news, if we hear of a movie in the making soon! I have just read this series, as an "old mom," and I am loving it (I still have about 1/2 of the final book to go, so I am at the point of DYING to know how it ends! This "trailer" was excellent - how do people make things like this? I would buy a ticket for this movie tomorrow, if this were the real thing. I LOVED it! Now I even have a better mental picture of the main characters, as I finish the last book.
When I think about it, I kind of doubt that would happen. I think one of the reasons The Black Cauldron turned out the way it did was because the books were too dark for them.
@mirhidauby Disney's actual darker era ended in 1985 with "the Black Cauldron" and "Return to Oz," but I say darker Disney is a cool idea--not in general for what they make, but for some things. True, the books have a lot of death (not gory, but death nevertheless, even plenty in battle), and the forging of youth into maturity is probably the clearest message of the books. That forging takes delving into darkness in order to emerge victorious.
As much as i love the books, they'll never be made in films. Well not decent ones at least that keep to the books. Reason for that is cos the storyline centres around Taran. The others only appear when Taran is with them other than 2 chapters in The High King. Film fans would want to see what Gwdion and co get up to in The Black Cauldran something we dont read about in the book itself. Likewise in the Castle Of Llyr. Eilonwy doesnt even appear in one of the books which wouldnt happen in the film
A clever screenwriter could expand the scope of the stories to include the raid on Annuvin in #2, Eilonwy's enchantment in #3, etc. I think -- I know -- these would make smashing films under the right guidance.
Omg i found this and you scared me. I thought they already made a movie of this. If that happened i would die I would so love to play Eilonwy. We had t oread these books in school and I am the only one that liked these books well I love them and i would be so awesome for these to be a movie.
GOOD CHOICES, MANY I HAD IN MY HEAD FOR IT TOO!i think i'd want Richard o Brien, Timothy dalton. Christopher Lambert and Rufus sewell in there too (: part of me would love to see the chronicles made into a film but they would probably upset me going on the poor fucking quality of often soulless and vacuous modern fantasy films. if it was a little like willow mixed with jim hensons labyrinth and a touch of krull lol ! it would be amazing. maybe del toro and jim henson should do it,
I am so torn on whether movies of this should be made...the books are so great in my imagination that it would be hard for a good movie to be created unless it received the same dedication to detail and quality directing as something like Lord of the Rings. Actually, it would have to be even better for me to watch it, because these books are so much more human than LOTR in my opinion.
I would love to see a live action movie of these books. I'm not much into reading novels, but I love The Chronicles of Prydain. Ive read the books countless times, and it never gets old.
Not bad! I like your young Taran; not sure about Hugh Dancy. And Paul Bettany is SO Fflewddur. I never thought of Gerard Butler as Gwydion but I can see that, now, too. I SO wish Disney would release the film rights to this series so somebody could do something decent with it.
Oh I remember watching Black Cauldron , disney's version I never knew it was a series of books ( how thick am I ?) I should have guessed!!! Disney mostly uses fairy tales and books!! Oh I am going to read these! Thanks for making this beautiful video and posting this!!

Dear Hollywood, if you ever do decide to turn Prydain into a film series, please cast Paul Bettany as Fflewddur. He's perfect, and sexy to boot.

Last I heard Disney pulled out of Narnia. They were losing money on them. Walden media found another backer for Dawn Treader

It would be ironic if John Hurt played Dallben as he did the voice of the Horned King in The Black Cauldron.

Not bad picks for the characters, I thought Sofia Myles was just about perfect for the older Eilonwy.
Nice work!
