To do and incredible Conga solo is the easy part, but to be a band leader, arranger composer and really be in charge of both a Jazz ensemble that was famous and performed all year around for non Latin Audiences all over the USA, Europ and Asia and do the same with a Salsa band it take a real master hence Ray Barreto was a Master.

I remember seeing Ray Barretto for the first time at the Palladium playing with Tito Puente. I asked Tito who the "new kid" was on conga and he laughed and said wait you'll see. Sure enough he wailed and along with Willie Bobo, Tito, it was a night I will never forget. Bravo Ray you have taken your place along with the other greats, Mongo Santa Maria, Patato Valdez.
