The ATTU (predecessor to the BATFE) visited the UNCLE set in the 1960's because these guns violated the 1934 National Firearms Act. (Short barreled pistol w/stock) The issue was resolved by paying a fine and further compliance. (See book on TV spy shows) Have seen some gas airsoft P-38s modified to UNCLE guns that have the "sound" when fired.(And also exempt from Federal Law)
This was a great video. Did you use a P-38 or a P-1 in the construction of this weapon? This is a childhood dream and hope to own one in the near future.
@196pc We used two different types, as we have so far produced two carbines. One is the Larry Green suppressor, and the other we machined ourselves by modifying another piece of hardware. We were quite happy with both approaches. The Larry Green version required us to strip off its paint, and blue the unit. We made one small deviation from the installation instructions provided with the part- cutting the barrel down to .5" from the block instead of the indicated .75", as I recall.
Dear U.N.C.L.E. cousins, I can't tell you how I've enjoyed and been enlightened by both this informative exceptional video and our subsequent conversations. I am sure that you are farmiliar with the AR 7 explorer; it is a .22 caliber magazine fed rifle where all components of the weapon: I.E. receiver, detachable screw on barrel and magazine are stored in the stock of the weapon. I've had the opporitunity to train on this weapon. The barrel is not "monolithic" but I believe it is about 16".
There are parts made to turn a Glock into a carbine. Same rules apply as far as registering the pistol as a short barrel rifle if you are going to own the pistol and the stock.
P.P.S. I don't understand why you had to acquire special permission to manufacture and possess a rifle-carbine, like the AR7 Explorer, your design is not technically a carbine. The U.N.C.L.E. carbine is actually a pistol modified to fire full auto with a suppressor, barrel extention. extended magazine, attached stock and optics. Of course the Suppressor and full auto are illegal everywhere but every thing else is legal even in NY. Here PD frowns on shrouds and pistol grips on shotguns. DAR
@centurionknight an ATF permit is required because a stock attached to a pistol with a barrel of less than 16 inches makes it a short barrel rifle. And the16 inch barrel must be monolithic. not detachable. And some states do not allow short barrel rifles under any circumstances
Outstanding! Thrush doesn't stand a chance. I owned a Glock 17 and the good thing about Glock is it's versatility and variety of additional parts, optional attachments and ease of modification. Glock even has an optional 30 round magazine, the 18 is full auto, but the P38 is a good weapon. I guess PD wouldn't allow you to fashion a suppresser, but I can see the agents of U.N.C.L.E. Oregon Headquarters put a lot of work into their carbine design and I congradulate you, DAR U.N.C.L.E. NY

Who's flash suppressor did you use for the pistol part of the Man from Uncle gun?
