Why doesn't Moammar Gadhafi get the picture? Why is dat man so damn stubborn? It's very important that foreigners see videos like this. Often times they come to America, and begin following in the steps of The Evil One. And they don't know the way that they are walking was paved through the pain of someone else--Black pain. When Curtis says "Save the Children" he knows the beast already has a grip on the present, but there is always hope for the future. Sadly, these cries often go unheard! Bless Bro. Curtis!
a legend....the most dont know about him. my generation is blinded by material, sexual and hatefull things.....iam german with turkish roots....if you see films like "L.A. Crush" and look to the society im living in, you see similarities. the same is true for probably many places of the world. it seems like, we never wake up....
Where are the African Americans standing up for peace and justice today? All we hear are venal rappers singing about their material possessions and sexual conquests. Our culture today is in complete decline. We need courageous individuals willing to speak truth to power at the expense of their own self interest if our society is ever to be reborn.

It's great to acquaint the sound of urban listeners(SOUL) with the innovators behind it. I have to agree..the cat on the congas is killing it..Timeless music..profound lyrics...RIP Curtis Mayfield aka the ghetto prophet!
Wow, this was recorded the year I was born. Curtis Mayfield was a genius. What a beautiful soul - this song truly captures the dream I still wish for today.
Great quality post Rolfbron, and as you say a full live recording, and as someone mentioned before, played at a low volume, down to '1'!, and sounding stripped down, funky and crystal clear as a result. A very different version to the '71 "Roots" version which sounds significantly earlier, more orchestrated and Motown-ish.
"and the people in our neighboorhood, they would if they only could meet and shake the others hand and work together for the good of the land", If only this were true in 2009 Curtis, if only this were true everyone in the old neighboorhood just looks out for #1 anymore no respect for others lives.we all need to change and live to improve the lives of others as well...Peace

Who to say it would be any good but can.t be any worser than what out here now On August 131990, Mayfield was paralyzed from the neck down after stage lighting fell on him died iDecember 26, 1999
Until they bring music classes back in the school system and ACTUALLY TEACH instruments that can play sounds we will have so called singers using voicebox's as their voices and manufactured sounds. As with the great, great Keep on Keepin' On Vid from the same set, the positive comments here sooth the soul. For a minute. Until you check out the news. Check out your mind. This is the same band as the radical Live at the Bottom Line CD, I think.
n than someone who provided a soundtrack to a blaxploitation flick. it was his message juxtaposed to the presentation of the film. buy his rare cd's, get to know the man-his music passionately. it's the message..Peace.
Curtis Mayfield is often overshadowed by the Isaac Hayes' (please understand, Black moses, is one of the masters of bad assness) Barry Whites and others. Curtis Mayfield gave us music that was spiritual-unrefined, raw and personal. Curtis' life was cut too short for future generations to cop hip to him. he is a major, though underappreciated, master of soul. Rev Al G, please keep fullfilling the promises made by the marvin g., curtis and the others who spoke to you. for the kids he was more tha
I find it really annoying that when this great man died on boxing day '99, there was very little mentioned about it (in UK anyway). All the media attention was on the talentless P Diddy pulling out a gun on someone in a nightclub. Anybody remember? What a difference between the two, absolutely no comparison. RIP Curtis, pure genius.
The problem is that popularity and sensationalism is more acceptable than the death of a genius. PDiddy in terms of music history can't hold Mayfield's mic. Do you believe that PDiddy would be considered a genius 35years from now like Mayfield is considered today? Mayfield had timeless songs that featured songs of progress, hope and inspiration. Can't say that about the majority of acts out now.
@pauly71 If that's true what a shame, that someone that gave so many years of great entertainment was disrespected like that, and i'm sure P Diddy eat it up.
@pauly71 Curtis Mayfield Never died, Malcolm X never died, Elijah Muhammad never died, Michael Jackson Never died, Marvin Gaye never died. they all just went to YouTube!
@pauly71 man i agree with you so much on your comment, but he do get the attention by people like you that bring this to our attention. theres going to come a time when we won't need the media.
This is one the first songs I heard of Curtis Mayfield and it drove me to listen to his vast range of truly classic songs. A rare talent. Great band too.
When music was takened out of the school systems and the record companies are more about hits and cloning artist to sound like the latest "it" entertainer. Very few artist were as profound and socially conscious like Mayfield was. Can you name a artist of today who had serious lyrics like him, voice like he had and can play the hell out of guitar? Am I right? Is that the famous '71 live at Paul Colby's Bitter End NYC personel?

defenitely the band pretty much sounds like on the Bitter End recordings. i just know one thing for shure: this is definitely great MASTER HENRY GIBSON on percussions.
