  • How many times do i need to say it - brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. there should be no doubters out there

  • this song will live on forever what a great song sung by a great artist let there be peace and love

  • I see that Justin Bieber dropped by to leave a thumbs down.

  • @dual506 mentioning names like that under the video of such a great artist is simply disrespectful.

  • Love you Curtis! : )

  • Why doesn't Moammar Gadhafi get the picture? Why is dat man so damn stubborn? If i were a dictator, i would have enough sense 2 know when it's over & when 2 step down, so that my people won't keep suffering because of my arrogance & selishness of not wanting 2 let go of dat POWER. Why doesn't he understand dat Peace won't be complete until he humbles himself 2 go do something else with his life & time. LET IT GO Mr. GADDHAFI! FREE UR PEOPLE FROM SORROW BY STEPPIND DOWN IN DA NAME OF PEACE PEACE!

  • @therealraybaby Western Powers need to Stop interfering in other countries affairs. The ONLY reason the west is there is for oil. Gadhafi isn't a good guy but it's oblivious this is about Libya's vast resources.

  • Peace, baby!

  • Curtis and Bob Marley were good friends. Light attracts Light.

  • Beautiful.

  • Find the peace in yourself, then share it with in your brothers and sisters.

  • @carlsaigon

once the peace and joy is uncovered, you can do nothing but share it!

  • This song is awesome and the video is awesome quality. Thanks for uploading this.

  • Curtis Mayfield's music is God's grace embodied through soul melodies!

  • y, UNITEDWESTRIKE

  • ABSOLUTE GENIUS.ONE OF THE LONG LINE OF MESSENGERS SENT TO THE NEGRO.Rest in PEACE DEAR BROTHER!

  • a legend....the most dont know about him. my generation is blinded by material, sexual and hatefull things.....iam german with turkish roots....if you see films like "L.A. Crush" and look to the society im living in, you see similarities. the same is true for probably many places of the world. it seems like, we never wake up....

  • Where are the African Americans standing up for peace and justice today? All we hear are venal rappers singing about their material possessions and sexual conquests. Our culture today is in complete decline. We need courageous individuals willing to speak truth to power at the expense of their own self interest if our society is ever to be reborn.

  • Pure Genius

  • Pharrell Williams kinda sings like him :)

  • i have to highlight joseph "lucky" scott on bass. i have no words, your ears will tell you. amazing.

  • @ropewalkingelephant Second that.

  • no change, still great.

  • Many Thanks For The Post

    1&True Love

  • i miss curtis every morning i wake up until the time i fall asleep.

  • ワウギタリストの、完璧なファッションでしょ。

  • Is there a complere Old Grey Whistle Test video out there or was this a weekly show?

  • @macewindu67 it was a weekly show throughout the seventies into mid 80's it is available to buy in a box set, check it out.

  • the band is incredibly tight during these performances, amazing bass playing

  • Curtis...legend

  • probably my favorite Old Grey Whistle test tune :) Too many greats to choose from

  • תשמעו למילים

    سمعو للكلمات

    Listen to the lyrics

  • Such beautiful and important music. Not a single musician today can hold a candle to what cats like Curtis, War, Bill Withers and Marvin Gaye did. We need artists like this again!!! Bill...if you're reading this, please, please, please put an album out!!! Lol...

  • This came out in 1972. Almost 40 years ago & it sounds so refreshing & revolutionary today.

The sad part is that in those near 40 years we haven't evolved beyond the music or the subject matter.

  • soothing but urgent piece from the late great curtis mayfield, whom i love very very much.

  • Thank you rolfron for sharing this beautiful, healing music.

Balm for the soul of a hurting world. Peace

  • from 2:40 on, dig the bass player... Damn!!!! Serious Jamerson-esque funk

  • Such a great loss to music - a classic performance by an fenominal songwriter and performer........

  • Epic performance!

  • great song. seen him live - just brill,

  • what a tight band

  • This is amazing. I bought the LP in the 70's but I've never seen him play it.

    Thanks.

    Keep uploading.

  • I am back again listening to this Curtis M. Jam. This is great Orin. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and don't use to much JD on the turkey. I am talking about sauce now. LOL Much love is headed your way!!

    Eddie.

  • Hey Eddie, how are you buddy? Yep, I cant seem to get enough of this one. This is my idea of a feel good song. I am so glad that this video is available. Thanks to rolfbron for posting.

Peace and Love to all that read this, Orin

  • Genuises at work , I hope we get back to thise type of music on the Black Charts instead of the "STANKY LEG" and the other two-bit lame- ass talents on the charts. Well at least the old skol acts will blow them away on the award shows as usual.

  • 最高!

  • I am liking this C. M. Jam. Thanks Orin.

    5*****!!

    Eddie.

  • Genius! Love this song!

  • A true musical genius, he inspired a whole generation of musicians.

  • yep, pharrell definettly

  • He was a pure genius taken too early out of this world...

  • wen n how did he pass?

  • This was the song that was playing when my first love and I shared our first kiss. A Jewish girl and an Arab boy, no less.

  • man, his music is so uplifting, i love Curtis Mayfield, RIP...

  • It's great to acquaint the sound of urban listeners(SOUL) with the innovators behind it. I have to agree..the cat on the congas is killing it..Timeless music..profound lyrics...RIP Curtis Mayfield aka the ghetto prophet!

  • timeless...listen to the lyrics

  • just dont get songs like this genius any more

  • i didn't know the poor man died until last year, apparently he was paralisyed when a light station fell on his back, great music

  • during a live performance as far as i know, will be sadly missed

  • brilliant

  • Wow, this was recorded the year I was born. Curtis Mayfield was a genius. What a beautiful soul - this song truly captures the dream I still wish for today.

  • Great quality post Rolfbron, and as you say a full live recording, and as someone mentioned before, played at a low volume, down to '1'!, and sounding stripped down, funky and crystal clear as a result. A very different version to the '71 "Roots" version which sounds significantly earlier, more orchestrated and Motown-ish.

  • THE BROTHER ON THE CONGAS IS KILLING ME SOFTLY. Ah Yes, kill me brother. YaHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • He was a musical genius, so under appreciated!

  • i was looking for a different song entirely but this one is really good

  • "and the people in our neighboorhood, they would if they only could meet and shake the others hand and work together for the good of the land", If only this were true in 2009 Curtis, if only this were true everyone in the old neighboorhood just looks out for #1 anymore no respect for others lives.we all need to change and live to improve the lives of others as well...Peace

  • Bob Marley says that Curtis is one of his influences. Very deep brother.

  • seriously , fuck yeah, drums, bongos , bass ect cany be betterd !!

  • This song is off his studio album Roots

  • where are the new R & B bands

    the New Issac Hayes., Quiny Jones,Teddy Riley,Kool &the gang.Ohio Players,BT Express,Chic,Tower of Power,MFSB,War,EW&F,Slave,James Brown,Rufus,

The old bands have to play their old stuff no problem

Well there is a problem Black Radio won't play their new stuff anway

Who to say it would be any good but can.t be any worser than what out here now On August 131990, Mayfield was paralyzed from the neck down after stage lighting fell on him died iDecember 26, 1999

  • Until they bring music classes back in the school system and ACTUALLY TEACH instruments that can play sounds we will have so called singers using voicebox's as their voices and manufactured sounds. Record companies also have to be willing to give new acts with something important a chance to do their thang

  • Is there any album with this song or is it only live? It's SO great!!

  • The Cat was far ahead of his time,we had not idea his music

would be Timeless.....and his message has a reach beyond

    Race.

  • What's a great feeling when hearing this!! I hope Pharell Williams thanked him tafter "copying" his style

  • Is that a young Tony Williams on drums?

  • they threw that stage light on his back those dam pale white niggers

  • why are you such a moron?

  • Mister Curtis Mayfield was a real gentleman with a subtle musical feeling. RIP soulbrother.

  • one of the most underrated artist ever!

  • niiiiiice Sunday funk..peace be the word...love the groove

  • Young Cats!...This Is what U Call Funky Funk music.....can u dig it?

  • I can dig it and so can u!

  • One of his best songs and one of my favorites by him

  • this is pure genius. end of story.

  • i love this song

  • we got to have piss

  • As with the great, great Keep on Keepin' On Vid from the same set, the positive comments here sooth the soul. For a minute. Until you check out the news. Check out your mind. This is the same band as the radical Live at the Bottom Line CD, I think.

  • "save the children...give them a chance" Spoken in truth and love...and we love him back forever...thank you for posting.

  • n than someone who provided a soundtrack to a blaxploitation flick. it was his message juxtaposed to the presentation of the film. buy his rare cd's, get to know the man-his music passionately. it's the message..Peace.

  • Curtis Mayfield is often overshadowed by the Isaac Hayes' (please understand, Black moses, is one of the masters of bad assness) Barry Whites and others. Curtis Mayfield gave us music that was spiritual-unrefined, raw and personal. Curtis' life was cut too short for future generations to cop hip to him. he is a major, though underappreciated, master of soul. Rev Al G, please keep fullfilling the promises made by the marvin g., curtis and the others who spoke to you. for the kids he was more tha

  • I find it really annoying that when this great man died on boxing day '99, there was very little mentioned about it (in UK anyway). All the media attention was on the talentless P Diddy pulling out a gun on someone in a nightclub. Anybody remember? What a difference between the two, absolutely no comparison. RIP Curtis, pure genius.

  • The problem is that popularity and sensationalism is more acceptable than the death of a genius. PDiddy in terms of music history can't hold Mayfield's mic. Do you believe that PDiddy would be considered a genius 35years from now like Mayfield is considered today? Mayfield had timeless songs that featured songs of progress, hope and inspiration. Can't say that about the majority of acts out now.

  • Yes you are sure right, the idea is to keep the young people stupid and to have war like mines.

But remember when one tree is cut another one will grow.

    Peace.

  • @pauly71 If that's true what a shame, that someone that gave so many years of great entertainment was disrespected like that, and i'm sure P Diddy eat it up.

  • @pauly71 Right On Brother!

  • @pauly71 Curtis Mayfield Never died, Malcolm X never died, Elijah Muhammad never died, Michael Jackson Never died, Marvin Gaye never died. they all just went to YouTube!

  • @pauly71 man i agree with you so much on your comment, but he do get the attention by people like you that bring this to our attention. theres going to come a time when we won't need the media.

  • It's an unfathomable crime what happened to Curtis Mayfield. How this great great man ended up proves to me that God does indeed sucketh the big one.

  • AMEN!

  • Nothing else need be said.

  • the greatest! forever in our hearts

  • Thanks =)

    Hi :) L0

  • Mmmmm. I love the song and the message just as much. Much love to everyone that comes across this!

  • Curt Mayfield's da bomb! Pharrell's always tryin' to sing like him. lol

  • ...the one and only Lucky Scott on fender bass...a truly iconic man!!!...

  • @emithband yes! the bassline is so tight, genius music.

  • LEGENDARY TUNE!!!

And that drummers quite tasty :)

  • simply brilliant. lyrically to the point- explains the thoughts of our common people. we gotta have peace. think of the children .

  • "... and the soldiers who are dead and gone. If only we could bring back one."

    A-fucking-men.

    Sleep well Mr. Curtis.

  • Curtis Mayfield was soul music, period.

  • Curtis was most certainly dah man. what an band. playing at low volume here.

  • I miss Curtis...Live music on tv, the way it used to be, and deserves to be.

  • that song was a big hit in the voice of peace radio .curtis is great

  • Incredible basswork from 1:48-2:10 !!!

  • amen

  • Brotha Curtis Mayfield is a legend.

Brotha Curtis can sing songs which are about moving us up and to bring peace and harmony.

Brotha Curtis Mayfield was a great soul singer and musician.

    RIP, Brotha Curtis Mayfield.

  • 10/10 brill

  • Curtis is just the dogs bollocks.....bless up

  • This is one the first songs I heard of Curtis Mayfield and it drove me to listen to his vast range of truly classic songs. A rare talent. Great band too.

  • This live performance is what got me interested in curtis mayfield. Great message and good vibes.

  • Why the fuck did my generation get ripped off,I wish I could have seen this guy live

    Peace

  • SENS SUCK! sorry i'm from toronto. i can't help it.

  • When music was takened out of the school systems and the record companies are more about hits and cloning artist to sound like the latest "it" entertainer. Very few artist were as profound and socially conscious like Mayfield was. Can you name a artist of today who had serious lyrics like him, voice like he had and can play the hell out of guitar? Noone had his style of playing. When he died he took that style of playing and lyrical geniusness with him

  • You're so right, it should be illegal.

  • I am allways still for many years when I hear that song .

  • this is so spiritual

  • Power &

    Equality to

    All

    Confessing

    Emancipation!

We got to have P.E.A.C.E!! Thank you, Brother Curtis.

  • A Ghetto Disciple, a Resident of the Concrete Jungle, an Inner City Preacher for the people less fortunate and sang a song with a message of empowerment, elevation and expansion. He may have self-contained, self-produced, self-made, but he was selfless when it came to spread the spiritual corn of love through his music. RIP CM.

  • im an old rocker at heart, but this is one of my favourite performances of all time. It's about as perfect as it gets ..sublime

  • save the children...peace...keep the world alive...sweetfunkyearth

  • peace be with you all

  • Where are the artists like him nowadays?? Him Bob,Peter and Marvin are prophets.

  • This is when music really mattered, Mayfield had a voice from god & could deliver a message across like no other. He's the original street poet. No one like him

  • Absolute genius..

His music & lyrics are timeless & beyond words

  • Yeah!

  • PEACE

  • the greatest to do it!

  • where was i when this man was playing his music.great. rest in peace

  • So cool!

  • OGWT 1972 Thats me on guitar! Remember I was sick has hell after having my first jellied eel

  • I swear i will die a happy man if i never see a better live performance for the rest of my life. Just wonderful i wish i could have been there. Screw the jellied eels man you made my life better for having done this thank you so much.

  • Siiiiiiiiiiiii!!

    Curtis es lo máximo!

    Dios del soul!

absoluitamente muy lejos de todos los pop: Su larga trayectoria artística tan identificada conla causa de sus hermanos, qu egrande!

    Que underground!

    Un tipazo!!

  • Am I right? Is that the famous '71 live at Paul Colby's Bitter End NYC personel?

  • defenitely the band pretty much sounds like on the Bitter End recordings. i just know one thing for shure: this is definitely great MASTER HENRY GIBSON on percussions.

  • Perfect
