  • This isnt a joke anyone who is laughing, go suck a dick this animal was amazing

  • Those are some badass animals, man. They're like the ultimate breed...

    poor thing

  • that horse is dead... lol!

  • barbarow knew somthink bad would happon thats wiy hes was akting up all day R.I.P

  • well dun jockey for pulling up as soon as you saw barbarow was hert

  • :[ :[ his leg shatterd right on the front strech :[

  • My mom loved this horse...she helped sponsor him and kept him from being euthanized. Now my mom and Barbaro are riding in heaven.

  • @cherrely im sorry about your mom! rip the both of them!

  • I will always believe that Barbaro injured himself when he had the false start. Prado pulled up on Barbaro really hard when the false start happened. I also believe that Barbaro would have won the Triple Crown had he not gotten injured. NOBODY ever talks about the false start possibly causing Barbaro's injury.

  • @TheProfessorOfLife Probably because you can SEE when Barbaro took the bad step along the front stretch.

  • @shonole I believe the "bad step" was not the CAUSE, but the RESULT of Barbaro injuring himself during the false start. Just my opinion.

  • @TheProfessorOfLife Then how do you explain his clean break from the starting box? If he was injured prior to that, surely you would have seen it before the bad step, correct? It's possible that it increased the odds of it happening, but it wasn't the sole contributor.

  • @shonole When Barbaro had the false start, the jockey pulled him up VERY hard. I believe a hairline fracture or a stress fracture occurred at that point, which would explain why the horrific breakdown didn't happen until shortly after the restart. It's nobody's "fault" that Barbaro broke down. It was a real tragedy. We will never know, but Barbaro was definitely a serious Triple Crown contender.

  • @TheProfessorOfLife Entirely possible. Not really probable, but definitely possible. Either way, it's a terrible shame. Prado did an amazing job, recognizing the injury, and easing Barbaro to a stop. One of the finest jobs of riding you will ever witness.

  • @shonole I have a beautiful Edgar Prado signed and framed photo of him riding Barbaro in the Kentucky Derby, and it proudly hangs on the wall in my "man cave", along with all of my other Kentucky Derby memorabilia. I've actually been researching a book I hope to begin writing soon about American thoroughbred horse racing.......the good, the bad, and the ugly.

  • @TheProfessorOfLife Good luck in your endeavors. I'll be certain to keep an eye out for your book.

  • @TheProfessorOfLife If he injured his leg in the false start then how did he gallop out of the gate and travel half way down the straight before he broke down?

  • @stephntilly Barbaro did what he was trained, and what he loved to do........run and race. There are plenty of racehorses who have been unsound and who have raced anyway. Hindsight is always 20/20. What I have is a viable theory, based on a chain of events. We will never know for sure what caused Barbaro's injury. One thing we can agree on is that all people with a heart, and even a passing interest in horse racing, were all touched by Barbaro's battle to live.

  • horse racing is great ill have u know but all those horses that have died is quite sad and terrible so horse racing is good and bad!

  • Anyone else feel Barbaro's pain while he moves his leg up and down?

  • he was quick to know something was wrong

i'm glad the jockey and the horse knew something was wrong and immediately stopped

Barbaro knew those people were there to help him and he was a wicked smart horse

    RIP Dear Beautiful Barbaro

  • Edgar is amazing! my favorite jockey of all time! most jockeys just ride for the money but Edgar loved Barbaro just like we loved Barbaro! Edgar GOD BLESS YOU HEART Race safe and race with your heart :)

  • I "love" how people dont really even care about barbaro when he gets hurt and the camera still follows the horses that are racing...

  • @Gypsyvannerluv Well, the race is still going on. They can't just stop the whole race. I know it may sound cruel, but it's true. It's their job to continue the race. And after the race you may notice they focus more on Barbaro then the actual winner.

  • @ItStartedAtUs i guess, but still.

  • @Gypsyvannerluv You're an idiot. NBC pays millions for the rights to air the race. What are they supposed to do, not show the race and just put a camera on Barbaro while the race still goes?

  • @OhioCanes so, apparently people cant have an opinion or a right to speech on youtube without being called an idiot?

  • 11 ppl dont have a heart

  • @tiejasmine I think the 11 people dislike it, for the injury to Barbaro.

  • I love Edgar Prado he is such a loving person. I always talk to him down at Gulfstream. He's so kind and caring. He isn't savage like some of the people in the racing industry. He cares about the animals and puts them first.

  • @ZillaShortFilms Yea I mean who wants to watch the Preakness? #StupidPeople

  • Comment removed

  • @ZillaShortFilms ThePreakness happens once a year, for 2 minutes. Your opinion is of the smallest minority. I'm sure the millions who turned in to watch the race would be very angry if they showed horrific images of Barbaro being pulled up, instead of the actual race.

  • @ZillaShortFilms I was watching that day. And I wanted to know what happened, after the race. I can wait 2 minutes to figure it out, however I can't wait to figure out who won the race. That would be extremely stupid for NBC to make us watch a replay. I did care who the winner was. Unlike the typical un-knowledgeable racing fan, I follow more than the years Kentucky Derby winner.

  • @OhioCanes Good for you.

  • He was so beautiful and so wonderful. Such a loss.

  • Poor Barbaro :( He was only three years old when he died. Horse racing is really hard on the horses and they are too young!

  • i love you edgar prado

  • This sucks, horse racing is so cruel... they knew the horse was not well yet they still tried to run him... money hores...

  • @TheSqueenie Horse racing is not cruel. Horses live better lives then some humans. Without horseracing there would be no need to breed them. Horses are on this earth to race, plain and simple.

  • I been in the buisness for years...Horses are born bred and cornfed to race..They

enjoy it very very much...Just think if there was no racing....There would be millions of horses with no homes...And chances are most of them would have the same grizzly end like Ferdinand...Which was prolly the biggest tragedy in sports....Absolutley horrible what happend to him....

  • @PlaYah1979 What happened to Ferdinand in Japan happened for MANY years in Japan. There are MANY champion thoroughbred horses who were shipped to Japan after their racing days were over, and who died at very young ages (under 20 years old). The death reasons ranged from "heart attack" to "intestinal disorder" to "laminitis". Nobody has investigated this "stuff" until just recently.

  • horse racing is not cruelty to my beliefs. the horses love to run! this is so sad, i love barbaro <3

  • shood hav ben barbaro

  • Thumbs up for the quick response of his jockey!

  • wow. i had known aout this but i never really looked into it until now. i'm writing a story about him for school. and wow, his story is truly amazing. he really was meant to win. edgar prado handled that so amazingly. i think this video just helped write my story....

  • THIS WAS2 DAYS AFTER MY B-DAY THAT YEAR :[

  • Barbaro was meant to be at the front of that race.... He was meant to be the winner..... He was our triple crown winner! xxx R.I.P Barabro

  • i think the five hits him!!

  • Imgine being the jockey on ruffian when she broke her leg and just hearing the snap the jockey said he never forgot the sound

  • @megoldsw1 The Devil Wears Prado.

  • Horse Racing -- The Sport of Psychos who enjoy torturing animals.

  • @redfordforpresident Your name says it all. Robert Redford hates the USA, and he hates everything this country stands for. Just look at his movies, and how they always cast a negative light on historical events in the U.S. Anyway, back to horses. If you are so worried about horses and how they are "tortured", the surely you must be at least equally concerned about professional HUMAN athletes and all the injuries they suffer, right?

  • Barbaro will always be a CHAMPION in our hearts. Horses are such majestic creatures who, also, plowed the fields, transported humans & the goods which sustain us. On top of that, when they run (which thoroughbreds love to do), they provide us with some of the most thrilling moments in sports. WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER BARBARO for the joy of his Kentucky Derby win & the courage shown during his recovery attempt. So many were UNITED in hope for him. Best Wishes ALL.

  • @mjcamck Very well stated. Barbaro was CHAMPION. He lived as a champion, and he died as a champion. His name will always be on the Kentucky Derby winners list. He died doing what he loved to do, and his legacy will live forever.

  • He may not have won this rce but there is something he will always win. Our hearts.

  • Poor baby. ):

  • eight belles died just 3 races later :( so sad that these beautiful animals died for our enjoyment and entertainment :(

  • i care about a horse that a nation loved- i didnt think about him every minute of my life but i wz like every othr person who loved and cared for an animal

  • i can'r help but think that maybe him getting out of the get before the race started, the horse was trying to tell them something was wrong.

  • Would love to see Frankel come over from the UK to take part in the breeders cup, best I've seen since Barbaro.

  • I LITTERALLY MET EDGAR PRADO!!! no joke! at Saratoga NY i met him! (i wrote down what he said to me)he said this:

"people should not remember me when i retire as a jockey that once rode a breaking down horse. i would like them to remember me as a jockey. no more, no less. i enjoy racing and i do not wish to retire. but when i do, i want to leave horse racing as just another jockey. nothing more, nothing less."

and he said goodbye and signed his autograph.

  • I have read several books on Barbaro- he is my life i love him so much- and i feel so bad for the jockey, edgar prado because he loved that horse to death.......literally

  • @PonyFinalsChamp A dead horse is your life? holy shit thats pathetic

  • its just wrong. its all wrong. Not that horse racing is a bad sport, but they race them before they have matured! At least 5 years old, preferably older, is when they should race. It's just so sad to see his stumble. And here's another thing. He was only 3 years old, 3 YEARS OLD PEOPLE. He was still a colt, not even matured. Edgar Prado made the right decision, a very smart jockey indeed. To all the people who run these races, RETHINK THEM, NOT 3 OR 4 YEARS OLD!! It was a very sad, RIP Barbaro.

  • I had an exacta box of Barbaro and Bernardini, who I liked better than Barbaro. I wake up and see the result. I say to my Mom "Barbaro didn't hit the board?"

Mom said: "It's much worse than that."

Bernardini was the best horse no matter what. Nothing would ahve beaten him on this day.

  • This still gets to me...and hearing the crowd after his breakdown. Just makes me tear up.

  • @megoldsw1 I know, you can tell that even with the broken leg, he still wanted to run.

  • Edgar Prado is one of the best jockeys of all time IMO, he had such a quick response. Many other jockeys would have kept racing to get the purse.

  • I'll miss you Barbaro. I love you

  • RIP, Barbaro.

  • Edgar Prado gave me his goggles when i was a little girl. I feel aweful about Barbaro. i wish he could have lived

  • @ BKamron I'm into to racing to my dad is a trainer and I ride, and honestly you just blamed a bad step on horse racing, I know it's terrible to see this kind of thing but the horse took a bad step, it isn't all of horse racings fault

  • @megoldsw1 yes he did God bless him

  • lol did anyone care about the winner at all this day?

  • I don't want to point fingers at any horse, but is it just me or does Brother Derik do something a little weird right before Barbaro gets hurt?

  • @ModelHorseMovieMaker You're right. Alot of people wonder if Brother Derek possibly may have played a factor in Barbaro's injury. Maybe, he kicked him or something. There was a huge article on it.

  • I googled Barbaro yesterday and there was a picture of him and it looked like his back leg had literally come off.....he was also on the track so it looked like it happened at a race.....anyway I was just wondering if anyone knows if this really happened? or it was just a photo shopped picture or something. thanks =)

  • i lv edgar prado he is my fav jockey and i feel for him.

  • Barbaro was not looked at thoroughly enough after busting through the gate which is not shown here and the biggest part of the video and most important. He fractured his leg busting through the steel bars and they shoved him back in the gate. All involved should be ashamed. Why aren't those bars padded anyway? There is no good answer as to why they are not.

  • Notice how people are still cheering as the race goes on. If the horse they bet on is still in the race, they don't care if another has been seriously injured. They just want their money. That's sick.

  • This is so sad! Horse Racing is a cruel sport. It was so hard to watch!!!

  • @BKamron Thanks for insulting all of Kentucky -_-

  • @ModelHorseMovieMaker I grew up on a farm with horses they are animals I really love and I know first hand how cruel horse racing is. A lot of you who are talking have no first-hand experience with the sport and have never been to the tracks. It can be very inhumane!

  • @BKamron If it was so inhumane than they wouldn't allow it. I personally think it depends on if they have the right training, jockey, etc.

  • Barbaro would so win if it wasn't for that injury

  • Love you forever Barbro, you ran into my heart. You did something you loved they didn't force you to race, but you wanted to do it and you were born to run <3

  • when was the last time a horse won the triple crown? did u guys hear about eight bells??

  • its been five years since i watched the preakness stakes and i just about broke down when I saw Barbaro being pulled up. He gave us as Americans hope and I know that right now he's romping in the fields of Heaven. God Bless Barbaro

  • I cried when I watched this, who knew I'd cry over a horse I've never even met personally but in my heart I feel like I've known him for years.

  • you risk the possiblity of your horse breaking down everytime he goes out to run...he could be in the best physicall form and in the best health and still break down. this happens everyday millions of times a year and most of them dont get the chance to have life saving surgery like barbaro. but its a risk we all take. anything could happen you just have to learn to except tht..as harsh as this may sound...dont get attached..ever...dnt fall inlove with a racehorse. its always a coin toss.

  • When they show him slowly lifting his leg up and back down multiple times at 2:50, it's so hard to hold back tears. I feel so bad for the poor boy :(

What a wonderful horse he was though... Never will forget him

  • Will u guys just chill this happened 4 years ago and EVERYONE is still on him!!!!!

  • @MichaelJs1luv96 were people who actually care

  • why would they race him they found problems with him and he broke his leg before the race

  • @dboot90 i dont think there were any problems he was just more excited than usuall or more easily bothered by the crowds idk. i wouldnt have raced him after he broke through the gate the first time. for a horse to brake the barrior b4 the official start, and then start again and WIN...its rele rare ive only seen tht happen every so often...but it takes alot out of them to dod tht twice. he was excited..took a bad step it happens to the best of them..

  • @lizhancock18 he got little injuries during practice and he broke his leg minorly on the track then he broke through hurt it more than he got to the climax and couldnt go anymore so edgar did the rite thing

  • @dboot90 hmmm...so he had minor injuries and the vet passed him as fine..idk abt you but to me tht sounds a lil fucked up. you dnt run a horse in a race with minor injuries...idc if its just a bone bruise...u jus dnt do it.

  • @lizhancock18 by the break of the gate till when tom durking said and there off he was already done by post time he was really fucked up

  • @dboot90 damn

  • @lizhancock18 damn is rite

  • @dboot90 i watched a thing about him last night...still cant believe it happened. he looked overly edgy..maybe a lil bothered in the post parade. gah!!! ppl and the money. do you know if Edgar knew he was injured b4 the race?

  • @dboot90 i mean durkin in my other

  • Its so sad that such a young talented horse had to die so soon.... he would have been an amazing race horse. R.I.P Barbaro <3

  • barbaro was gonna win the triple crown, it was gods will he didnt, there will be a triple crown winner soon

  • @DemonChinChilla355 so god made that horse go threw pain?yea bullshit

  • @Horses4ever8 so your saying god cant inflict pain on anything, your bullshit

  • @DemonChinChilla355 why would he???????????????

  • @Horses4ever8 because hes god, he could make it rain shit if he wanted to

  • @DemonChinChilla355 wow then he's cold hearted

  • @Horses4ever8 no, he just runs the world, and he probaly had a bet on berandini in this race

  • @DemonChinChilla355 lol x[)

  • @DemonChinChilla355

how can you be sure the horse didn't trip over a leprechaun? or maybe loki fucked his shit up??? really, the evidence for those scenarios is just as strong as for yours.

  • @dfunkt thats right

  • @DemonChinChilla355

when was the last time a horse won the triple crown?

  • @SuperVancouverBC affirmed in 1978

  • @DemonChinChilla355 with the amount of emphasis and money placed on horse racing, there are too many horses and too many good trainer/jockey/owner combos to compete with for anyone to be able to produce a horse that would compete and a high level at three different distances. There will never be another triple crown winner.

  • @uoregon4life I think Animal Kingdom will change your mind, and if you doubt something can hapeen in horse racing, you obviously dont know it, in horse racing.............ANYTHING can happen

  • @DemonChinChilla355 so are you saying its god's will that he got hurt? god wouldnt hurt a living creature

  • @SuperVancouverBC trust me, he can do what ever he wants, but thats my opinion

  • @DemonChinChilla355 i thout AK was gonna be one this year, well we can always hope for next year

  • @3:15 i saw him lift his foot in pain and i cried... its so sad. RIP Barbaro

  • Look as he runs out of the gate I've not noticed this before but if you watch his right hind (injury leg) he runs on it funny from the gate too???? Or is it just me!!!!!

  • I wish this horse could have lived. He was one of the greatest, on his way to be a Triple Crown Winner. Whenever I see or hear his name I cry. He is honestly one of the best horses. He is a amazing champion.

    RIP Barbaro.

    Gone Too Soon

  • He looks lame at the beginning..

  • @DannieEmProductions Yeah you can definitely see that. But Edgar was fantastic at pulling him up so fast, some jockey's never would've felt that.

  • @EquineEthic1 Your right, but you get that extra sense from riding for years. I mean people on TV must have seen the lameness too. Too bad they didn't know until it was too late.

  • @DannieEmProductions At that point there really wasn't much they could've done. People who were really watching and could spot stuff like that probably saw it at the beginning but...yeah.

  • Is it just my imagination or did Barbaro come out of the starting gate limping? He even seems to be favoring that right hind leg while they re-loaded him after the false start.

  • @thackery12 He did. But I guess they didn't catch it.

  • this is happened on my birthday.... i'm born on 20 may 1992. too sad... beautiful horse..

  • Barbaro was and still is my favorite race horse. he always will be. R.I.P.

  • That was very sad, I wish it never happened.

    Maybe he could've won! :,(

  • God Bless poor Barbaro :( at 1st I never watched the race the full way through until about a year later. I'm glad they at least tried to save him. He made a lot of progress in his healing but then developed Laminitis. Lam isn't caused on the track either! His owners payed thousands, maybe millions of dollars in his recovery not because he was a money maker, but they loved him. Geeze, I loved him too! we all did. Barbaro is one of the reasons I love horse racing today. He inspired my passion <3

  • They should have put that horse down immediately. You hate to see this happen to any great horse but they were liTerally just giving a hurt horse extended time on this earth. Eight Bells was put down on the track and it saved that horse a lot of pain and agony. They should have done the same to Barbaro. RIP

  • @stephen39217 If no one ever tries to do something, no one shall ever succeed. I believe the Jackson's and Barbaro fought as long as they could.

  • And to this day, the assholes in the infield are still too drunk to notice what happened.

  • I was at this. i was only 12 at the time but i was sad :(

  • You cannot tell me these horses dont love this..........barbaro was still giving it hell when jockey was checking him up

  • how cud they not see that he was limping on his back leg b4 they even put him in the god damn box!

  • So Sad :( However, I was hugely impressed by the reaction and the way they dealt with it

  • Sure, maybe some owners don't care... but you can't do well in this business if you don't care about your race horses. Movies are terrible in depicting thoroughbred owners as the "I don't care if you think the horse is hurt, race it anyway" type of people. These horses get the best treatment. If you had a horse worth millions of dollars, would you push for one race when you think that could be the last? Or would you wait and just race the horse in 10 different races?

  • I have watched this so many times and it still makes me so sad

  • If Barbaro wouldn't have broken down that would've been some race between him and Bernardini. I guess we'll never find out R.I.P Barbaro.

  • RIP little horse ='(

  • you watch this and then say jockeys or owner's don't ''care'' not so!!!

  • @fullstrutn You're 100% correct. Look no further than how upset the rider was

  • Even though he was hurt whats even more loving bout him is he kept giving it his all. I love U BARBARO!!!

  • I cried when I saw this live on tv. Everytime I watch it I get shivers when he starts getting pulled up. R.I.P Barbaro </3

  • Watching this again gave me shivers :( </3

  • RIP Barbaro

  • did you hear that cracking noise, well that was my heart breaking... luv ya now and 4eva big boy!

  • 4:53 made me cry even harder...

  • 2e:37 ;( made me cry at 237

  • Meh, just a horse

  • @dpasdamoney well if it was a horse you would have a bit of heart dude

  • @dpasdamoney ur just a person would anybody care if u died? NO!! :D hee hee thumbs up 4 the horsees

  • @dpasdamoney no hes not just a horse hes a champion horse!!!!!!!!!!

  • Afleet Alex was the horse who got me interested in the sport, after I read about him in a magazine. I began watching races every now and then and heard about the Kentucky Derby, Barbaro was the first horse I saw win the Kentucky Derby. I was upset when I heard he`d broke down and I began watching more races to get updates. I was devastated when I heard he`d been euthanized. broke my heart. I miss Barbaro, he is was incredible. I will never forget him. <3 Miss ya big guy.

  • Why do you "hate" the owners of Barbaro? Come on now if you are going to say that you have to give a good valid reason. They were a little odd but no reason to hate-they did what they could.

  • He kepy running that show how much this horse wanted to make America proud. Its like he knew. I love you barbaro!

  • @trev845 Maybe you should look into horse racing a bit more before you dismiss something as 'just a horse'. Those horses pulled us through our darkest hours, think of the depression, and gave us something to believe in. Barbaro was no different. He gave people something to believe in, inspired them to be great like he is.

  • @trev845 meh ur just a tard

  • i hate his owner

  • I used to have respect for Michael Matz when he competed in Grand Prix. At least then he knew that a horse was "young" at 8 years old. He knows damn well that NO horse should be running at age TWO. I am positively disgusted that he entered the arena of racing. I will never have respect for him again, and he has blackened my memories of him as a show rider; makes me wonder what he did to win back then...

  • i am happy that bararo's jockey was not selfish i was wacthing some racehorses and a horse fell the jockey kill the horse they had to put it down we miss you Barbaro

  • i was 8 when barbaro was put down i think he was put down

  • barbaro is still undefeated an un beatable forever

  • michael matts immediately realises that he lost all his betting money and he rushes to the pitch. faggot.

  • OMG did they say edgar, that guy, when i was two he gave me his goggles!!!

  • see i swear some ppl are soo danm stupid!!

  • poor barbaro!! but at least the jockey didnt push him!! and it could be worse!!

  • awwww poor barbaro i felt so bad seeing him go outta the herd like that but the rider did the best thing to stop him fast that poor horse :( i cry whenever a racehorse goes like that i love horse racing and all racehorses i hate how there are some ignorant jockeys out there who push there horse to the point they are running over the speed they can. and then end up badly injuring themselves. R.I.P barbaro ill miss ya and same with eight bells.
