  • Holy fuck, 8gb is like 50 bucks here in Denmark, and its even great ram :O.

  • My friend sold me 8GB from his macbook for $250, did he rip me off? He said they are usually $400 from apple.

  • @funpoleece They are $200 from Apple now, and about $35-$50 elsewhere online.

  • Hey! Just found this video. I'm new to Mac and I also ordered 8GB from OWC this week for $45. Am I the only one who is SHOCKED that Apple still charges a whopping $210 to upgrade to 8GB??? I mean aren't this sort of thing supple to be down right criminal? to take advantage of the uninformed customers like that.

This plus a few other constant ignoring of OS X bugs has made me kind of see the true side of Apple lately. They don't listen to their customers and do what they think is right. Shame.

  • @SamBorgman Apple charges that because they can. It is GREAT RAM, but not $210 sorta great. Apple is a great company, and I think they do listen to their customers, but they definitely overlook some things.

  • @RyanKnowsTech They really don't as much as I thought they would. For example: dual monitor full screening problem is still a big issue, they do nothing about it. Since switching from Windows 7, all I've been googling are "work arounds" to all these problems that are so easy to solve. Forums are full of these complaints. And yet Apple do nothing about them.

I do NOT want to clamshell my MBP to watch movie on big screen for cooling reasons. But I must or I have to use both screens same time.

  • True

  • Not treu

  • @i7msc15283 Jesus man. $400 for 8GB is more than just overpriced, it's freaking price gouging. Just go to the site shown in this video if you haven't yet.

  • @MercuryClock Amazon got Kingston 8gb ram for $39-49 for the unibody Macbook pro,$400 is ridiculous.

  • @bobbyz23 Exactly. I know Apple is infamous for overpricing their shit, but Jesus. 32GB of RAM isn't even worth that much.

  • I'm sorry, half of this is just plain incorrect.

Up until late 2010 I was running on 2GB, and 4GB from then onwards. I use Chrome, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Visual Studio, iTunes, you name it all in parallel without any problems whatsoever. As I write this in early 2012, 4GB is enough for 99% of people, with the 1% being moderate-heavy video editors. It is a complete myth that you need to upgrade hardware this often (unless your needs change), especially if you manage any system clutter.

  • @gloconnor Sorry to disagree. 8GB was not enough for the work I do, so I have since upgraded to 16GB. I would say that 25% of users require more than 4GB today.

  • @gloconnor Totally agree. 4gb is the sweet spot now, in early 2012. I would argue that any performance increases (boot time, application loading, etc) is simply a product of new and improved hardware replacing older stuff.

It's a cheap upgrade, but unless you are a power user, I don't think it is currently something that will make the computer "faster".

  • @gloconnor As a programmer, 8GB is much nicer than 4GB. Eclipse, Aptana, and XCode all use a bunch of memory together. For the average internet browser, 4GB is likely enough though.

  • Yeah i have just decided to get 8gb of ram i do alot of photo shop and video editing and school projects...

  • OMFG i just bought corsair gaming ram 16 gig for 54quid!

  • I looked around for my phone at 4:29 lol

  • I'm considering upgrading to 8GB on my MBP, but $400 for 2 sticks of 4GB RAM at the Apple Store is just so overpriced!!!

  • I disagree. My wife's black Macbook is running like a champ with two gigs. My white Macbook was running 4 gig and was down right snappy even when multitasking. If your system is using over a gig with no apps going something is wrong. You may want to check background processes.

I agree with you about OWC, been using them for years.

  • OMG. just 1.5 years later, the stuff is 40 dollars!

  • I have ran Aperture with a 4gb macbook pro. Not a pleasurable experience.

  • wow I feel sorry for you. I got my 8gig of ram for 38$ on amazon and it works perfectly. Its by Crucial :P

  • @Bleachkon1 Look at the video date, this ram was way more at this time.

  • @RyanKnowsTech wow about a year ago, it went down a lot O_O

  • Comment removed

  • @Bleachkon1 OWV sells 8GB for abou $45 with install kit right now.

  • @Bleachkon1 same here just got mines in the mail today and finished installing it like 2 minutes ago lol its awesome!

  • Bought Samsung 8GB DD3 1066 mhz, SO-DIMM, 204 Pin for only 45 euros at amazon for my Macbook pro 13" mid 2010. Why should i waste 270$ for the exactly same type of RAM?

  • @BazzaraBeatz Over a year ago, that was the price of this memory!

  • you, sir, love to talk

  • HOLY PEANUT BUTTER BATMAN! I just ordered 8 GB Corsair RAM from Amazon or like 30-ish bucks.

  • 270 DOLLARS I SPENT SIXTY and got crucial ram way better then owc... Don't buy there total rip.

  • @cincytechman haha u got ripped coz i got my £29 on mine which is like 18 dollars

  • With student discount it works out slightly cheaper for me on the apple website, should i still shop around?

  • @AiluroPanda I would just get it from Apple in that case.

  • @AiluroPanda for me 8 gb comes out to be $400!

you can buy 8gb for $40!

  • I bought 8gb for 75 euros at Kingston.com

  • It works but it says ECC disabled. Thanks.

  • Ryandoesnotknowtech.

I didn't even bother watching the whole video.

  • @DeeWox I'm sorry you did not enjoy the video, or the information provided within.

  • @RyanKnowsTech You use a macbook, not a pro? because i have my black macbook and i dont now i i can put 8gb of ram.

  • @Kuikli2 It's a Pro. This was my 13 inch, I now have a 15 inch i7. The black MacBook Probably can't do 8GB, but the 2008 and later MacBooks would.

  • fake and gay. there are tons of cheaper ways to upgrade your ram. how much did ya get for this?

  • @MrBambooocha99 Notice the date, over a year ago. RAM was MUCH more expensive then.

  • @RyanKnowsTech okay i'm sorry dude

  • I like Crucial better than owc !

  • Hmm why pay $269.00 for 8gb ram when Newegg have the same 8gb Kingston ram for $34? And Kingston is about the best ram you can buy for desktops and laptops. Those prices at that time was ridiculous!!

  • @bobbyz23 Yeah this was over a year ago, prices have drastically changed.

  • @RyanKnowsTech Yes on that site ,i've seen drastically reduced prices on Newegg and other sites for the last 2 years, some sites just like to make a 200% profit. But,nice video .

  • i have a cheap vista with 1 gig of ram : (

  • I know its over a year later but i definitely bought 4gb of ddr3 1333mhz for my imac for only $18. These prices are crazy high!

  • WOW, I just went to that site and the 8.0GB is drastically reduced. I understand that RAM has been coming down, but it makes we wonder?

  • Lol, crucial ram is down to like... $30 - $40 dollars. Check amazon o,o . Get it while it's cheap guys :D

  • Is it the same thing for windows 7? Please let me know if you know

  • @7GGonzalez Yeah pretty much

  • Comment removed

  • stop trying my life

  • goto nover teck 8gb only £100

  • It doesn't work with Samsung and crucial... I guess I am sticking with crucial.

  • I have one more question. I have 4GB laying around and I am just wondering if I can mix Samsung ram with Crucial ram. I used the system scanner and everything so far is working great. Thank you. I have 8GB installed right now.

  • @2Cool4Games Yeah it will probably work.

  • Comment removed

  • Linux memory management is much better than apples memory management. Linux only uses 43mb ram if you have a cool theme installed and a picture editing software running (photoshop on a compatability layar)

  • 290 dollars? i bought 8gb for £50

  • I've got 1gb 10.5 iMac. Adobe products work fine like flash, photoshop and after effects as long as you don't run two of them at the same time if you've got a browser open. Although I just ordered 6 gig ram and it's being shipped.

  • Bro look at this sh!t.

    i41.tinypic (DOT) com/2cqk5sj.png

Thats while using final cut pro x :-/

  • @MyBikeGotJacked lol I've got 8GBs it does the same thing.

  • @RyanKnowsTech bro my name is Ryan Schultz too !

  • @MyBikeGotJacked Haha cool!

  • the 8gb ram on that internet site is 48$ now on Christmas 2011 dammm sucks u paid 200 or some shit lol

  • @KuShToKeR630 I know dude I just bought it and when I heard him say that he paid $200 I was like DAMN!

  • yea i have 2gb on 10.5 snow leapord :( should i buy 8 gig for €80???? im gona be downloading and using games for it. nice vid thumbs upped + subscribed ;)

  • @dmanno3 I highly recommend the upgrade.

    Thanks!

  • Hello, I upgraded my ram to 6 GB ram today. Going to upgrade win 7 to 64 bit but will this crash my PC? I have a i3, GT 220 and a 6 gig ram. Will this help my games be faster and higher FPS or does it depends on what my graphic card is?

  • @STREETGANGTERS Upgrading to 64-bit should only make things faster, since you'll have 2GB of RAM to utilize.

  • I upgraded my RAM to 8GB on My MacBook Pro Late 2011 on Crucial.com for $55.99 and it's the exact same Samsung RAM that came with the system.

  • Thanks for very nice video. Today i upgraded to 8GB (4x2) and i have two 2gb rams extra. Can I put these two in my girlfriends macbook white? I think its a 2010 model. The question is if the 1333 MHz will be ok and i will just not use the whole potential of the memory or it may cause some troubles.

    Thanks for Your answer.

    Tobi

  • @toobisek It may still work but it would under clock it to 1066MHz. Worth a shot- it's an easy install.

  • @RyanKnowsTech Thanks for a really quick reply. I hope it will work, because it can speed up her mac.

btw i used pc for my whole life and bought my first mac this friday...it didnt work as it should have so i wanted money back and wanted to buy lenovo. But my friend persuaded me to just change to for another one and i am happy i did that :)

First few days were just suffering, but now i start to love it more and more every day :) i should only put SSD drive except and put OS on it..thats all :)

  • @toobisek You'll love the Mac more everyday!

  • @RyanKnowsTech As long as i find how to manage my files...I have OS Lion and also Snow Leopard on the second partition. (250mb:250mb)

lion was too slow and i want to wait for some relevant updates. Since then i will use SL and then move it all to Lion.

But still as a "PC guy" i have a problem understanding the system of file management on mac. Thats the only thing right now...otherwise its awesome...i had Iphone 3G for Two years and i hate Itunes...so much...thats the main reason why i didnt

  • @toobisek by mac long time ago :)

  • i am regretting buying a mac now 250$ for fn ram my desktop pc on new egg van git ddr3 ram for 30$ well 120$ for 32 gb is what i realy bought so far my time with the mac book air sucks

  • Just got 8gb for $50. It's more expensive in Australia... and I don't like buying online.

  • bought 8GB yesterday(cyber monday) for $30

  • @ACMiLan1113 me to i got it from amazon ddr3 2x4

  • 8gb mem is 45 dollars now

  • I bought 8GB of RAM from Crucial for $45. Works great!

  • go to amazon, you can get 8gbs of corsair ram for only $40!

  • Hey whats that CPU temp and fan speed monitor program you have in the menu bar? I have istat pro and its just a hassle to view the dashboard just to check temps and fan speed.

  • @712536 SMC Fan Control

  • HOLY I ordered 8 gigs of RAM for my Macbook(WHite) today for $50 because a friend recommended it to me. i decided to look up the performance differences and my mind is blown at the prices shown in this video. I can't believe how much that has changed.

  • will a 2010 macbook pro unibody 13" screen with 2.4ghz core 2 duo accept 16GB?

  • @whatsuphomedog1 No, I don't think so.

  • @whatsuphomedog1 I confirm no, the maximum amount for all the mac book series (2011 also) is 8 gigabytes. The difference is basically on the DDR3 quality. 2010 models have DDR3 @1066Mhz. 2011 have DDR3 @1333Mhz. Actually, there's not a big, substantial difference between them.

  • Go to hell with owc. Go to crucial.com

Yeah. Bet your slapping yourself right now.

  • @phillies9513 Uh.. no. macsales.com has 8GB for $52, while crucial has 4GB for $50.

  • what about the iMac 7,1? I just went out to upgrade to 4GB but if it can run DDR3 4/4 I would be overjoyed. Is there an answer to this? Running Final Cut Pro often and was going to upgrade to Snow Leopard.

  • i've got 8gb of 1333 and i have a better computer because im running window

  • What if my Macbook only accepts 4GB of Ram. I have a White Macbook Unibody from late 2009 and I constantly use Final Cut Pro X on 2GB of RAM (2GB of RAM and FCP X are not the best of friends). I still have 2GB of RAM. What should I do?

  • @MaddogTheRobot That'll do 8GB no problem. Trust me, I know Apple says it won't, but it will. My friends' 2008 MacBooks support 8GB DDR3 without any issues.

  • @RyanKnowsTech Thank you!!!!!

  • @MaddogTheRobot make sure u use 1066 ram. if u use 1333, it'll overheat way too fast.

  • bought my 8gb for 35. Even better after rebate, 25. My mac mini is much faster

  • hey iv a 4GB DDR3 Macbook pro 13" 2009 good machine and i wanted to now would 8GB improve gaming and laptop speed cause since i upgraded to lion it hasn't been as snappy as it was on snow leopard. booting is faster but everything else takes that little bit longer and not have as smooth rendering + i was told it would improve my FPS is the true

  • @iphonepunker Yes RAM will help speed up just about everything.

  • Thanks for this, im looking to get some new ram because i have 4GB and when i run minecraft, my server, i tunes, google chrome ans msn its laggy and i like to enjoy fast surfing and that kinda thing ") need to get some money then i should be on my ay :)

  • I bought 8 gigs for $45. nbd.

  • also get a app that clears your inactive ram in the appstore... soo helpful!

  • go to crucial.com and you can get 8gb for ram for $50

  • another question, lol i have a butt load of ram that is "inactive"

    these are my stats... why?

    free - 39.9 mb

    wired - 714.0mb

    active - 1.41gb

    inactive 1.85gb

    used 3.96gb

    why is it like this?

  • @zztop5911 That's normal, but I don't know why. It's fine. When Mac OS X needs RAM, it'll find some to use, so how little you have free doesn't matter.

  • @RyanKnowsTech Yeah, what does the "inactive" RAM mean?

  • @shnunk1 It's been used by applications, and is still full of that data. However, it doesn't need to be used anymore. When it is needed, that data will be cleared out and it will be used with the new data. You can count it as free memory really.

  • @RyanKnowsTech Thanks for that mate.

  • can you load a video tutorial of upgrading it.

  • Hey ryanknowstech I have a question for you. Have you ever heard of crucial ram? I am thinking about getting some ram from there. Have you ever heard of them? By the way great video!

  • @zztop5911 Yeah Crucial is a good name, you'll be fine!

  • SSD is far more important than 8gb upgrade #sharingtheknowledge

it really makes a bigger difference than more ram, trust me.

  • @kikz786 I agree, I now use a 6G OWC SSD.

  • i just ordered mi 8gb rams from amazon for 50 euros with shipping costs

  • great review!!! thank you. Next time test with G.Skill

  • great review!!! thank you

  • Will this make any difference in terms of gaming?

  • @searklarak I don't game at all, but I'm sure that it would!

  • Do you recommend ram upgrades from Crucial? I'm debating on whether to upgrade from 4GB DDR3 to 8GB DDR3 ram. Thanks!

  • @H4x0r18 Yeah Crucial is a strong company, go for it!

  • lol It is SOO much cheaper now. imagine in ten years when people are popping a TB of ram for 50 bucks :)

  • are you saying this for all macs? im about to get a 13'' macbook pro, do you suggest upgrading that? and what about going over 8GB

  • @LordToby25 Yeah 8GB is the current sweet spot. Over 8GBs is WAY too much money- like $1500!

  • @RyanKnowsTech here in canada i pay 183 $ for 16 gb

  • @MrGRiiiND Not in a 2x 8GB configuration!!

  • @RyanKnowsTech 4 x 4 GB

  • @MrGRiiiND Exactly, you're lucky you have four RAM bays, laptops only have two so it's harder to get more for less money.

  • @RyanKnowsTech Well I took your advice and upgraded my macbook from 2gb of ram to 8gb of ram.... and it is the best thing i ever did, thank you for making this video my mac runs so much smoother and preforms so much better, again thanks :D

  • @MyWonderApple Awesome! Glad you're enjoying it!

  • @RyanKnowsTech Oh I'm definitely enjoying it, now time to put an SSD in it ;D

  • I have been a customer of OWC for years now. Have bought external HDs, SSDs, CD/DVD burners, memory, etc, so I can say that yeah, their stuff is good (quality).

  • ok i have the imac 27 2011 with two 2gb ram can i add two 4gb ram or does it have to be four 2gb ram four 4gb ram and so on. will it work with 12gb of ram in all four slots (two 2 gb in 2 slots and two 4 gb in other 2 slots) i hope yo under stud my explanation thanks

  • @LastArabGamer There are only two RAM slots, I believe. I'd go with 2x 4GB. If you do have 4, just keep them all the same regardless of what they are.

  • i have 16 gb ddr3 ram for my PC

  • Crucial is the best place to go

  • I just bought 8 gigs for my Mac mini for $70.00 shipped from the US to Australia! I highly recommend buying RAM now!

  • @shnunk1 What brand and where did you buy it

  • @abdu2s eBay. Search for "server-ram".

  • @abdu2s eBay. Search for "server-ram."

  • @shnunk1 Same here I had 4 gb and my games were laggy but blamed it on my card just got a 4 gb (total 8gb) and WOW I can now run skyrim on high with graphics mods just fine, before I could only run on low.

  • im not very goo dat this XD, but can you explain , interms of processing, why we should buy the ram from owc rather than the apple store (im well aware of apple overpricing, but i want t o make sure i get something legitimate)

  • @fernandotta OWC RAM is fine, just as high quality of Apple, just save yourself the money.

  • Where did you get that wallpaper? It's nice!

  • @GetsugaD7 Thanks, its one of the 100 billion I have in an app called Wallpaper Wizard. I made a video about it- it's on my channel.

  • I bought a brand new MacBook Pro 13.3 (4GB RAM, 250GB HD, 2.53GHz Dual Core Processor) from an iStore on December 2009. It was a Xmas present from me to myself. I use it mainly for music-video recording and editing so I need the space and memory, and also have music and movies and other stuff.

I think OWC is a great site as well, I've decided on 2x4GB RAM OWC modules ($67.90 now) and a 500GB Seagate Mometus XT hydrid drive ($129.90). What do you think?

    Cheers.

  • @waltervt Those sound like good upgrades to me!

  • Do you think that I should get 8GB. Do you think it's worth it on a 2 year old imac 27 inch with Intel core 2 duo?

  • @2Cool4Games If you want to keep the computer for at least another year, then yes.

  • I'm so stuck in the past bro... I only have 1GB on my '08 Macbook and it's worked very well until recently since I've started doing some serious video/picture editing (Photoshop/After Effects)...

Do you suggest I buy a whole new Mac or simply upgrade the '08 that I have?

  • @jasonbournetodie Hmmm, the new ones (even baseline) will blow that out of the water with their Intel Core i Series processors. You're better off to find a loving buyer for the '08 and get a new 2011 MacBook Pro 13!

  • @jasonbournetodie Hmmm, the new ones (even baseline) will blow that out of the water with their Intel Core i Series processors. You're better off to find a loving buyer for the '08 and get a new 2011 MacBook Pro 13!

  • @RyanKnowsTech That's what I was hoping to hear! Thanks for the input.

  • I have a 2.4 2010 unibody mac mini. I had 2gb running adobe master collection (photoshop, indesign, premiere, after effects, everything) and it ran fine for me. I could even do simple editing in premiere and after effects. But I recently upgraded to 8gb and there is a monumental difference. Point is, if money is a tight, and your not doing serious video editing you are completely fine.

  • My RAM just arrived today. I highly recommend the 8 GB upgrade! Made my 2010 Mac Mini into a dream machine.

  • i have 2 gigs on my macbook pro, i really need to upgrade. would you suggest 4 or 8 gigs for running a minecraft server?

  • @lukeibe Go with 8GBs, it's pretty cheap now.

  • @RyanKnowsTech yeah, i just ordered it

  • Go to Amazon.com for the cheapest RAMs.

  • That is incredible how in just a year, 8GB of RAM has dropped from about $300 to $50!! WOW!

  • @TIRanald I got 8GB of RAM for $35 the other day. Unbelievable.

  • @RadioactiveTouch depends on what you are doing…..
