MY budgie is 8 weeks old, and very nervous. He spent most of the last 2 days (The ammount of time ive had him) on the floor of his cage, now finally he's had the courage to stand on a perch, and he's nibbled at some millet. He's very nervous with me,&though i can change his food without him flapping he does get very jumpy if i move anywhere near him. I dont have a perch small enough that i can easily move around his cage.I wink with him, but how can i gain his trust over the next few days/weeks?

If yours bite, talk to it, and leave ur hand a little bit in the cage but not to close to the bird. Eventually he won't be frightens. When a bird is SCARED, it will bite. After it stops biting , it will fly away, jump and SHAAAKKKEE. Soon it will eventually get used to you and be ur BFF (:

i have clipped my budgies wings but when she goes down on the floor i put one finger beside her tommy and then she comes up and after few minutes goes up to my shoulder and waits until i will go beside the cage, when i am beside the cage i put my shoulder beside the cage and she climbs then on the cage.. this is her first time when i train her hope it will not take long enough for her to get use to me

@poppy11th Agreed. I changed my description of the video to say i regret writing that. I wrote that at a time when the XBox was more played on my behalf but now more higher quality AAA titles are out on the PS3 and their online service has vastly improved especially with Playstation Plus and now that i have a 3D TV i have pretty much packed my XBox away and exclusively play my PS3. Completely agree with what you said, i've gone through 5 XBox 360s! Waste of money in the long run.

And yes they MAY bite you - but Budgies only have tiny bites that don't hurt and you will get used to - eventually they will stop doing it I find.. Strangely birds see your face and your hand as two different entities - you are so big to them I doubt they really understand Humans XD They do learn to love you though, just be patient and spead LOADS of time with them.. You'll have them sitting on your head and giving you kisses in no time. Finger boxing/sparring with them is another fun thing!
I find sticking your fingers in the cage is a good trick, like through the bars - just a tiny bit.. Most birds will eventually go for it as its something new. After a few times doing that - like after a day or so I mean, put you hand in the cage with a finger out - it may startle the bird, but it will get used to it and will start peching againg, eventually, do what this guy says - put your hand/finger to the birds feet and they will jump on. It all CAN be done quickly, but take your time..
Taming takes time. No bird gets tame in 30 mins. If you want a scared bird that hates you, follow these instroductions. PLEASE people, get some INFORMATION before getting a pet. Budgies live in flocks, so i recommend getting at least four.

This looks really helpful, I'm going to have to try it :) I've had my female budgie for about 6 months now, she's still quite young and I've been wanting to tame her. Problem is, she's extremely nervous and goes crazy when I put my hand in the cage, she won't even let me go near her. Admittedly her fast movements frighten me a bit also, as I'm scared I'll either hurt her or she'll try to bite me. Do you think this tactic of taming will work on her?
Hey..i tried n tried..so i juss grabbed him gently n pulled him out of the cage n let him fly around a little in the front room. I made sure it was safe n now hes veery tame and sits on my hand without getin scared...
it works, i'm 13, i have 2 budgies and they have a mirror, and i trained my 1 year old budgie in 20mins! it is amazing how well they can communicate with you! it is good for them if you click and whistle quietly to them while you are training them too
A baby or young teen, not at all. If it's older, maybe slightly, also depending on their relationship with you. For example, how long you have spent time with him/her.
Although in my opinion, they only intentionally hurt you when you are bullying it, or when you're perceived as a threat. Otherwise, a nibble would merely be a peck on the finger, just their way of saying 'Go away'.
Thank you sooo much! That's very helpful. I got my budgie from a friend not to long ago, he's pretty old but hardly ever trys to nibble me. But he still does and when he suddenly moves to nibble my finger it gives me a fright! he just jumps!
Don't be scared. Since it's still an animal and it cannot communicate with us verbally (not at first anyway!), they'll communicate with you through body actions... which includes when they nibble you I guess.
another thing is to impresionate THEM , when they scratch themselves try to scratch urself , they see it , they stop for a sec and stare u and then they keep on , its something that make them thing that u are not THAT diferent as u seem , another thing that can get u closer to them is to wear colors similiar to theyre's
That does not help very well you know!!!!Parakeets are far more difficult in taming,you know.You must feed them,play with them,hand feed them,and many more qualities to tame your parakeet.Try looking at my videos,they are much more instructional.

Hmmm not sure what to suggest. The budgie needs to be susceptible to being tamed i guess. Read up about it on the internet, maybe you'll find some more helpful tips on how to tame a stubborn budgie

Just leave your bird in a corner in the cage for 2 or 3 hours to get used to its surrounding. Then start doing this some keets are timid and you can't start training them right away

what i did with my budgie is have him sit on my finger in the dark. he wouldn't see anything, so he wouldn't have the urge to fly away, and he got used to my finger. then i would turn the light on after he was comfy, and he wouldn't be scared at all and just sit there forever...
I have three budgies. One is tame, I'm working on the other. The third one is kind of goofy compared to the other two. He freaks way more than the other two, attacks the other two, pulls out his feathers, and stuff. I got him at a different pet store so I think I might have a goofy budgie or they treated him badly at the store. I've tried this method and it doesn't even work with him. Any other ideas?

dude, i've got that problem too, put ur hand in the cage, they fly like crazy, but from watching other videos im just learning that it will take like maybe a year for them to trust hands :-P i've had mine for a month and its calming down a bit
My girlfriend and I tamed our budgie and taught it two tricks in the first month we had it. Now in the second month, we taught it 4 more tricks. These birds are very smart and very quick learners. Hand taming them is no problem.

Try target training. I have videos on my channel that teach you how to tame a budgie, teach it to go on your hand or anywhere you want, and even some tricks you can teach your bird. Good luck with your training.

All my parakeet does is fly around the room when I have him out of the cage, he doesn't want anyone to touch him or hold him anymore, help? (he wasn't ever like this in the beginning)

This looks really helpful, I'm going to have to try it :) I've had my female budgie for about 6 months now, she's still quite young and I've been wanting to tame her. Problem is, she's extremely nervous and goes crazy when I put my hand in the cage, she won't even let me go near her. Admittedly her fast movements frighten me a bit also, as I'm scared I'll either hurt her or she'll try to bite me. Do you think this tactic of taming will work on her?

Hey..i tried n tried..so i juss grabbed him gently n pulled him out of the cage n let him fly around a little in the front room. I made sure it was safe n now hes veery tame and sits on my hand without getin scared...

it works, i'm 13, i have 2 budgies and they have a mirror, and i trained my 1 year old budgie in 20mins! it is amazing how well they can communicate with you! it is good for them if you click and whistle quietly to them while you are training them too

Depends how old they are.
A baby or young teen, not at all. If it's older, maybe slightly, also depending on their relationship with you. For example, how long you have spent time with him/her.
Although in my opinion, they only intentionally hurt you when you are bullying it, or when you're perceived as a threat. Otherwise, a nibble would merely be a peck on the finger, just their way of saying 'Go away'.

Thank you sooo much! That's very helpful. I got my budgie from a friend not to long ago, he's pretty old but hardly ever trys to nibble me. But he still does and when he suddenly moves to nibble my finger it gives me a fright! he just jumps!

Don't be scared. Since it's still an animal and it cannot communicate with us verbally (not at first anyway!), they'll communicate with you through body actions... which includes when they nibble you I guess.

but try not to pull away ur finger when they do it , they learn that by biting theyve been left alone and they stick to that tactic
another thing is to show them that u can actually moove quite fast but intentionally u moove slow when close to them

another thing is to impresionate THEM , when they scratch themselves try to scratch urself , they see it , they stop for a sec and stare u and then they keep on , its something that make them thing that u are not THAT diferent as u seem , another thing that can get u closer to them is to wear colors similiar to theyre's

That does not help very well you know!!!!Parakeets are far more difficult in taming,you know.You must feed them,play with them,hand feed them,and many more qualities to tame your parakeet.Try looking at my videos,they are much more instructional.

Hmmm not sure what to suggest. The budgie needs to be susceptible to being tamed i guess. Read up about it on the internet, maybe you'll find some more helpful tips on how to tame a stubborn budgie

@fixxxer928 well i tried to tame mine even though i take care of it (cleaning the cage, food and water etc.) but i can pet my bird but she won't come up on my finger

Only time and patience will allow your budgie to feel enough trust towards you that he/she isn't going to be afraid of you as much anymore. Remember, your hand is h u g e in size compared to their own body size, and they fear for their lives. Changing their home, their habitat at yours means another confusion for the animal, and your hand is already hugely confusing to him/her.

Just leave your bird in a corner in the cage for 2 or 3 hours to get used to its surrounding. Then start doing this some keets are timid and you can't start training them right away

what i did with my budgie is have him sit on my finger in the dark. he wouldn't see anything, so he wouldn't have the urge to fly away, and he got used to my finger. then i would turn the light on after he was comfy, and he wouldn't be scared at all and just sit there forever...

I have three budgies. One is tame, I'm working on the other. The third one is kind of goofy compared to the other two. He freaks way more than the other two, attacks the other two, pulls out his feathers, and stuff. I got him at a different pet store so I think I might have a goofy budgie or they treated him badly at the store. I've tried this method and it doesn't even work with him. Any other ideas?

my bird only gets on the perch for a treat n it doesnt go on if my finger is covering the whole perch but itl go on if there is even a milimetre left but i went away to boston for 2 weeks n when i came to toronto my birds would just cling on to the side of the cage plz help i dont know wat 2 dooooo!

let it settle but if u start trainin it is easy to start when u get it cause it usually does no move but i think u should leave it for a while

dude, i've got that problem too, put ur hand in the cage, they fly like crazy, but from watching other videos im just learning that it will take like maybe a year for them to trust hands :-P i've had mine for a month and its calming down a bit

My girlfriend and I tamed our budgie and taught it two tricks in the first month we had it. Now in the second month, we taught it 4 more tricks. These birds are very smart and very quick learners. Hand taming them is no problem.

i've got 2 budgies, for 3 days ago, 1 male 1 female..
and they are still young, around 1-2 months.
i think they can trust my "hand", because when im take feed to them, they come to my hands ( sometimes i need to move my hand to them ) and they eat each one, but i dont know they are finger tame, because when i need to take one of them out they jump away from my hand,
someone can help me with my budgies? what i should to so they can be "tame"

Try target training. I have videos on my channel that teach you how to tame a budgie, teach it to go on your hand or anywhere you want, and even some tricks you can teach your bird. Good luck with your training.
