  • ok heres a question...i seem to have some awesome ideas to make good games...and i believe i can come up with some great things...so how would i be able to get in a career of video games without necessarily dealing with alot of computer related things or necessarily dealing purely with story??? but to pitch ideas of good story and multiplayer elements while ppl hear my ideas and make them into reality? is there such a think like that????

  • @213Gremlin Without actually doing anything, we all would be millionaires now wouldnt we. If you cant put it into reality (DEMO) they will never talk to you.

  • That doesn't mean you know alot about game development

  • @BigDStudios16 of course I don't know everything about it, but I know enough. I would say i'm pass basic. But you learn everyday and no matter what you will always continue to learn. But sadly its been awhile since I've done any game development. I have been re-learning C++ off and on.

  • @Bearrick In a video you said you knew alot. But I knew you didn't mean everything. C++ takes a long time to learn, so it will take awhile if that is what you plan on using for game development.

  • @BigDStudios16 Yeah of course, the most i've used C++ for was robotics programming, but its not the same as game dev. Now I don't have any plans on being a programmer but its essential for me to be able to at least dabble in all parts of game development. If I did say I know a lot I probably didn't mean that i know everything.

  • @Bearrick I know you don't know everything, I just ment you said that you know alot, which is not everything.

  • @BigDStudios16 yeah.

  • I watched a video of you, that's now unavailable where you said that you knew alot about game development but you also said that you used rpg maker.

  • @BigDStudios16 I use rpg maker for fun, not for anything serious. I mostly programmed with python or used game maker. I did use blitz3D as well for a short time. But when it comes to game development I enjoy being in the project management side while also doing art, and business things. I'm a buisnessman

  • of course, you won't agree with me, but i say programming is most important

  • art is really important as well because, without it we would not see anything but text too, and its more important than design document, music and sound is as well so we can hear something, level creation is more important than game design document, so there is levels, testing is more important than documents aswell, so there is no glitches or anything like that.

  • @BigDStudios16 Without a design you have nothing to design levels around, level design is apart of game design in the first place. the idea of the game, the feel, and everything else is all apart of game design. You are always designing a game even when you a developing. No matter what All aspects relate back to game design.

  • @Bearrick I never said design wasn't important but I've never made a design document and I've been able to program games.

  • @BigDStudios16 What type of games? anyone can make remakes of games, but if you want to make a good game design documents are important. You will see that a good design document is what separates a good game from a bad game. This is why everyone who is making a big project or a serious project has one.

  • @Bearrick I've made a platformer that was not a remake with a decent amount of levels, a few point n click games that were decent.

  • Actually, game design document is just an idea, and you wouldn't want to get an idea that you couldn't get on the screen, without programming, you can't get anything on screen, I've made games without having design documents, therefore, game design documents aren't AS important, but can help for a team that has years of experience, ya of course programming, art, music, ect. are important, but games have been made just buy code, they might not be as good but, without code, no game,

  • @BigDStudios16 Most anyone who goes to make a serious project, has a game design document, you might want to read Game programming all in one by Harbour. He's a programmer with years of experience and he even states that game design is the most important. Go and ask any serious game developer, the will tell you the same thing. yes programming is important, never said it isnt, but without an idea you program nothing.

  • Game design is NOT the most important part of game development, programming is. Without it, there is no game, you don't need a design document for a game.

  • @BigDStudios16 Guess again buddy, ask anyone without a design there is no game. Game design is the most important aspect of game development, period. Not saying programming isn't important or any other job in game development isnt important. All are very important. Bad programming makes for a buggy game, bad art or music make for a non-playable game. But without a design there is no game. Because the design is the idea of the game.

  • @Bearrick

m8, you are totally wrong. If you program a game, there IS a game, just no storyline and such. Game Design is not the most important, but it is generally done first. Its either the game design or the Game Engine development that will come first. So Programming and Game Design are both up there being most important. And bad art doesn't make for a non playable game nor the music... art is the polish, so its unimportant till the end.

  • @gm3dgames Game design is important, I say its the most important cause having a good design means you know what you are planning to do. The design of the game is simply an idea. Most every game has some sort of plan, if its written out it allows you to know what you are doing. Yes game programming is very important not saying it isnt. I view all aspects of game development as important. Art and Music allow people to enjoy the game more, good art and music make for a good game.

  • @gm3dgames I agree, the engine is most important, and art isn't needed at all, nor is music, but I think they are more important than design document.

  • @BigDStudios16 The engine is a toolset to making the game, but has nothing to do with game development. Making an engine and a game are two separate things. art and music are what sets a game apart and makes it fun and enjoyable. The design document allows for making the game easy, all of these things are import the design document being the most important aspect to game development. No team can work on a big project without one.

  • @Bearrick Actually, thats one definition for it, but I'm not using that definition, what I mean by game engine is, the basic technology of the game, so if it's a sidescroller, it will have the basic ellements of it, like physics and stuff like that.

  • What's the techno song called??

  • @sonicfanatic200 Its from megaman cant remember the song.

  • @sonicfanatic200 It is a remix of one of Final Fantasy X's songs.

A remix of the main theme I guess, but it would be nice if we knew the name. =)

  • this helps people get organized.. but you were kind of vague in multiple statements..you should have gone in deeper details and gave examples of everything..

  • @mamobster1500 yea, perhaps next time I will do that.

  • this is what i'm in school for

  • @shadow3245 cool, how you liking it?

  • Like I said, I have professional experience but I do see what you are saying so I shall re-word my argument. You are explaining this incorrectly and it may cause quite a lot of confusion especially with people who have no game design experience. So, although some of your points may be correct, you are teaching them incorrectly and therefore it seems as though you are incorrect. I will say teaching is an art and not one to be taken lightly so bad teaching is a folly of many.

  • yea, there probably are many mistakes in this, I've never really taught anyone anything, so i've been trying to learn how to teach people things I know. I'm hoping to do a much better video in the future.

  • ... I can't even tell you how much you fail, it's beyond words how bad this as well as all your other videos are. If you continue trying to destroy newcomers with this filth, eliminating any good game developers in our future, you will hear from Anon.

  • too bad this is a video on how to development a game design document which if you ever read anything on game documents this follows the outline to how they are made and what goes into them, your only thing is your not even watching the videos you come here and just make an insult while masturbating to videos of gyro.

  • The problem with the logic in your latest of statements is this, I have no clue who "gyro" is. I tell you this because I have spent many years in professional game development and know for a fact, from pure unadulterated experience, that this is now how you should go about the creating of a GDD (game design document). I have made hundreds of these things for professional use and this is not the right way to do it.

  • you would be interested to know that this format for game design documents comes from professionals. this is also mention in Johnathan S. Harbour's Game programming all in one book. there are also articles that talk about this as well all over the internet. so where exactly is your logic coming from?

  • This isn't game design. This is a list of ideas. Which development methodology will you use? What's your stance on waterfall, spiral, and agile? Where are the class trees? Where are the state and interaction diagrams? Please stop spouting nonsense about things you have very little experience in.

  • this is talking about a design document. If you dont know what one is go look up a few, pretty much all of them follow this layout.

  • Which is why I asked where the diagrams are. A list doesn't constitute as a design document.

  • This is getting you into game design, and understanding what goes into game documents and how to organize one, as well as explaining what it is about, if you want an actual design document I can probably make a quick one up. Diagrams aren't always found in game design documents.
