  • He's coming to centre collee in Kentucky on Saturday, so excited

  • so much talent....i could never do it myself....props to him. just the way he can make his skin color look authentically black (when in actuality a black man could never do this). he mustve used so much make up and many hours into it.

ok im done trolling. i like it alot. but i feel like beatles songs werent meant to be made like this. playing fast doesnt make a good song. still, this guy is talented.

  • Esse cara e fera

  • Can you say, deal with the devil. This guy is awesome. My friend saw him play in Scottsdale last week

  • ok --this guy plays and thinks on a diff plane than most of us--but he is def in tune in what he doe's and what he doe's is great--very very talented--not many people can play like this--hope he becomes what he deserves.

  • "Mom I want a grand piano for Christmas." He got two guitars instead.

  • Saw hime live in Annapolis last week. He played without a band. And in drag. I was concerned at first by him being alone, but he was AMAZING. Wowed the room for two solid hours. I have liked him for a long time- but THIS is a genius on the guitar. He knows classical music, having been classics educated, and is a thoroughgoing master of his art. Never pass up a chance to see him live.

  • I call fake. Only a random asian person can play any instrument with that proficiency.

  • @PossumCuber Only a random american person leaves a comment like that.

  • I thought he was in his 20s?

  • *caps lock keyboard smash bolded and italicized for further emphasis*

  • Wow! that is how a guitar should be played, his making love to the guitar!

  • WOW!

  • 2:26 "pardon me, comin through. Am i interrupting something?"

  • @flickded he is without question one of the greatest guitar players ever. this is well known

  • Fantastic! He's truly allowing God to speak through him. A wonderful treat for the ears.

  • Real niggas play guitar with their chin

  • holy cock suckingballchockinmuthafuckinpussy leaks

    that boy is a god!

  • the people who dislike this video tend to have the shittiest taste in music ever... i would slap u all.. for the bullcrap i see in your favorites list.

  • @BlatzAdict Amen to that, Brother !

  • we went down to the crossroad...

  • He is one with his music I can tell. The whole time it's him and his music. He is living and breathing each note that is coming out of that guitar and he doesn't really care what anyone else is thinking as the audience. He is just bringing to life this song through his own interpretation and it is a special sight.

  • I swear, halfway started to sound like a Dream Theater lick...this guy is truly epic.

  • No doubt he is a good player, but this is boring as shit.

  • Dude is tappin chords, playin melodies, and a bass line all at the same time !!!!!!!! Hes playin the guitar like a piano !!!!!!!!! He started off playin the piano then he heard Jimi Hendrix and decided to play guitar. Dude is raw !!!!!!!!

  • Wow!!!! His chin move in 4:27 reminds Jimi a lot!!!!

  • just wathcing this video makes you grow balls and you know what else does this one fight scene in the movie ip man

  • my entire body has become one big goosebump.

  • Half of these views are from me!

  • clean up on aisle 5. This video is fucking amazing so is stanley jordan.

  • @joshtube9 there's way too many people in the Beatles version!

  • I can understand why there are people who disliked this. Stanley Jordan is incredible. No argument there. But Eleanor Rigby is about the human spirit and what it feels like to be desperately lonely. This cover doesn't capture any of that. So it's fantastic technically, but it doesn't have any of the spirit of the actual song.

  • @joshtube9 The feeling of loneliness appears many times in his interpretation, and more of that the struggle against this loneliness, some "forced joy times", some smiles to people in order to get a response, this "no response" covered by the descent in low-pitched notes. From my point of view, this is a good interpretation of what loneliness is. And I'm sure genious people like him know what is loneliness, it's not only an interpretation, it's maybe an answering smile to Eleanor's loneliness :)

  • There is a cool new version of Eleanor Rigby by Voltaire 7. Check it out on Voltaire 7 website or itunes.

  • he nails this like a pianist who can play two different lines at once on a piano...except on guitar. Just ground breaking, gorgeous sounding, music.

  • gila babi terer siottttt.

  • ... and its kind of obvious he has influence from Stanley Jordan ... not that, that's bad, but well ... he's no Stanley (but who is). I came back and listened to the second half ... creative dude, but still kinda messed in the first go at it. Video was taken in 2006, so I'm sure its way more refined. :)

  • @pinkeye00 was posted in 2006, it is stanley jordan ! taken years ago, how do ya feel now eh ?

  • @simakki I bet he does feel like a dipshit haha

  • @simakki Yo man, sorry but he has been playing this song since the 80's. I'd say he was just thinking about all the chicks he was gonna get after playing the song.

  • @pinkeye00 I met Stanley about a year and a half and that is most def. him dude haha

  • @pinkeye00 - I have seen Stanley live like 10 times and met him after several shows. That is him. My guess is that although the video was from 2006, the actual performance was earlier. He is like 52 years old now.

  • If he could only keep his staccato less cut off and more rounded. Not to be overly critical but it sounds like shit.

  • I saw Stanley at the Hollywood Bowl opening for Miles Davis sometime in the late 1980's and he did a phenomenal set..

  • qewr[poitrew olnnb...pardon me, words kinda get out wrong after I see this guy play...epic

  • 22 people are rednecks

  • @Yoroichi19 23 now, bungholes

  • @Yoroichi19 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yes

  • @Yoroichi19

Unfortunately there are 29 rednecks already

  • Mind boggling.Simply amazing.I'm speechless.1 of the best.So beautiful.Just another day 4 this guy.An accomplishment of a life time 4 most others.Crazy.

  • going to burn my guitar been playing for over 30 yrs and this depresses me

  • OMG chin fretting technique :O

  • how can anyone not enjoy this?

  • I'm better...

  • @swazy99 Prove it, cuntflaps.

  • How do you dislike this video? for heavens sakes he played with his chin at one point! (4:27)

  • @ahendrix oh its all good. All the ppl who disliked it were jealous

  • @ahendrix Look..this vid is all very fine and I enjoy it...but music is more than all technique..would ye be able to listen to this for like 2 hours?????

    Have a nice day.

    Vanu.

  • @vanu49again Are you serious?? This is jazz, not just "technique" and unless I'm mistaken jazz is music and Stanley Jordan is a musical prodigy. And yes, I would be able to listen to this for 2 hours. In fact, I've listened to it for way more than 2 hours.

  • @ahendrix I actually disliked, I think he's overplaying it a lot of time (like from 3:50 on). He didn't finish the melody once, he's using way to many fills. Best part is when he's grooving (from 1:50). Don't get me wrong, I understand how hard it is to play like this, but I just think musical value is more important then moving your fingers around really quick...

  • @DreamBrother86A Agreed. The other version from 'The Tube' in the 80's was loads 'sharper' on terms of form.Check out the other version (bright pink shirt.) Undoubtedly a fantastic player but as you said he does over do this particular recording to the detriment of the song in that you wouldn't buy this and listen to it, it's messy and overtly 'fret wankish'

    Looks cool as fuck though.

  • @DreamBrother86A You have to give it to him, though. This is amazing for an improvised performance. Once he set the core melody in the beginning, he just went off! I guess I would have liked to hear more of the Eleanor Rigby theme in there, but the sheer musical prowess more than compensates.

If anyone finds this boring, you probably need to take a few more steps up the music appreciation ladder.

If you don't understand it... fine. But don't knock it... this is genius.

  • @ahendrix they dislike anyone who plays better than them

  • @ahendrix maybe you didn't get it right. 29 people say they don't like the "video" , not the song, not the man, not the way he played. They just dislike the "video". Ok? And stop this nonesense "Oh, who could dislike this video?, Oh God, what a shame" and my balls shake.

  • @ahendrix and by the way, i don't like it either. but I won't press dislike, if that causes a problem

  • COOOL love his unique style

  • wicked

  • Good guitar player but please stop fucking Beatles songs up.

  • @tassepersson This didn't affect the original song in any way. If anything, it gives the listener another dimension to view the song from. I would say it augments the original. Think of it as a flower. The band is the gardener who plants the seed which grows into a plant, then little flowers start sprouting off the plant. Inspiration is beautiful.

  • Why did the stupid lady walk by the camera. When Stanly is playing you sit down shut up and friggin listen. unbelievable!

  • @walkofftheearth She couldn't take another orgasm delivered by his guitar playing.

  • Desde Colombia!! es lo mejor que he visto........asombroso estilo e interpretacion.

  • hes like hendrix with a classical guitar

  • dispite mainly b'in a shrapnel shead type of guy,J Becker,Shawn lane,Yng in his prime[2 me 81-86],i can easily say this is one of the most beautiful, technicaly masterfull things ive ever seen/heard.the improvised lines r brilliant,everything.wow.hes 1 bad dude.fantastic.thank u fenced01.

  • Stanley is not God, but I like to listen to him!

  • jeeeeeesus.

  • How can I possibly be successful while there are guys like Stanley around?

  • @TorressssssME: The sad truth is that talent has little to do with success. If that were the case, Mr. Jordan would be on the front cover of every music magizine every other month.

  • Too good ! vraiment bien !

  • soooo, anyone know any other guitarists who play guitar with this technique, or who invented this style?

  • @BladeLemonMilk don't know much about electric jazz guitar, but as for acoustic two-handed tapping, you might wanna check out michael hedges, preston reed, justin king, kaki king, kelli rudick, andy mckee, etc.

  • @therockingviking, FYI, Stanley Jordan started out as a classical and jazz pianist

who decided to apply his keyboard skills to guitar. His technique on the guitar was born out THAT other instrumental understanding. He was "discovered" playing in this style somewhere around 42nd street and Time Square N.Y.C. in the early to mid 80's playing (of all things....go figure!!..) an ACOUSTIC classical

style guitar that had a small saxophone pickup connected to a small battery operated amplifier.

  • @therockingviking, FYI, Stanley Jordan started out as a classically trained jazz pianist who decided to apply his keyboard skills to guitar. His technique on guitar was born out of the technique on the other instrument. By the way he was discovered playing in this style on NYC's Time Square playing (of all things...go figure!!.) an ACOUSTIC guitar. This happened in the early to mid 1980's; you might wanna check with those other players and see from where THEY got the idea BUCKO!!!

  • @Bayogiloo preston reed/michael hedges started tapping in the mid/early 80s. shrug. i'm not saying that stanley jordan took the idea from them--his style is a lot different.

  • @therockingviking you're correct in that their styles are very different. I've met Preston here in Cleveland when he was performing at a club here call Fat Fish Bleu in the Downtown area. Even he said he "hadn't seen anything like what Stanley does". FYI Stanley was playing like this when he was 12/13 yrs old (on acoustic). And again he was discovered while playing an acoustic in the early 80's. Think about this and then do the math....:)

  • @Bayogiloo i wasn't trying to say that stanley jordan was copying hedges or preston reed, or that he isn't as good as they are--i was just offering some names of other guitar players who kind of use some similar techniques, some of whom started using those techniques at around the same time. anyway, i think we can both agree, stanley jordan's amazing. (btw, i'm from cleveland, too :) )

  • @therockingviking Your assumption on WHO started tapping is 100% misinformed... Michael Hedges my ass.

  • My favorite guitarist bar none! I saw him in 2005 at the Jazz Standard in NYC. Stanley Jordan is not a mere guitarist, he's an angel on a harp.

  • Considering someone successful is very subjective sometimes. IMO if he can get by just performing live and selling CD's and not having to work a day job he is successful in my book!

  • funny thing is he started out on the piano first.. picked up a guitar and said "why cant i play this the same way i play piano?" he makes it his own instrument, thats for sure

  • Talent...

  • Jealousy doesn't even begin to start to describe the hate I feel for this man. Why even bother with lessons, there's no way i'm gonna be able to do anything near this.

  • man this unreal

  • For people like Jordan , Adrian Legg and a few others they had to throw out the top 10 scale and re write it to 15 or greater

    These people are not human

  • That's great, he just needs to learn to sing at the same time now.

  • He is not that amazing lol. He is very good but lol

  • @RejectedRejects Can you do better?

  • How the hell can that man still look so young at fifty?

  • @Herfinnur He's permanently 20 years old. It's the music-plus, it's a well-known fact that he is from another galaxy.

  • @rmsolympic1 AAAAAAAAA YOU LOVE GUITAR EEEEEEEEE YOU LOVE THIS IN? YOUR FASHIT BLAK ASS REAL AHAHAHA STUPID BITCH SHUT UP YES BLAK IS RASSSSSSSSSSSIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIST

  • He is so far off the richter it ain't funny.

  • By far the most talented, under-rated guitarists EVER! Thanx for posting this! It must be nice to be able to wield that kind of technicality!

  • @IBANEZDADDY I'm havin' a hard time believing there are people posting who don't know WHO this cat is!!!!!!!

  • I can't believe there's people talking in the background...

  • How old is this cat?

  • Very, very impressive. I can almost feel the soul he is at this very moment. For his ability to play the guitar like a piano, I will only say that it could be cleaner sounding. Which will acheive in due time through playing like that. Awesome upload, thanks.

  • he is one with the instrument...

  • good player but i'd like to hear more originals

  • This guy is freakin' awesome!

  • This is a very difficult thing to do, demand years of study, congratulations for him.

  • what the hell was the beginning

  • an intro

  • those are some strong ass pickups..lol

  • MY GOD Stanley is bad as Hell man.... Just SICK guitar... Jaw on the floor good...

  • The notes are all finger-tapping, if you're saying he lacks accuracy, you try tapping a bassline and harmonizing melody along with it... It's extremely difficult, i know, i've tryed it and failed miserably

  • Not bad! Definitely prefer the beatles version, though!

  • Jesus this guy is good!

  • Is this guy British? Why isn't he a household name in the States. I found this video after I did an Elenor Rigby search...had no idea who he was. But he's incredible.

  • He's from Chicago. ;-)

  • its look like chocolate rain :D

    great guitar \,,/

  • Far better than most of other version, but lacks a bit of precision on the higher notes. Still, considering the speed, quite satisfactory.

  • @kozinc After reading your comment on Stanley's playing, I was surprised to be unable to find any videos of you playing an instrument. Maybe it's just me. Anyway, peace and blessings koznic!

  • I'm more of a singer. Besides, I specialise in musical criticism (the constructive kind, not the other kind). So, I'm not really for posting stuff - I go listenin' to all kinds of music and mark the better ones and think of ways to improve. Then, I post if I think there is a possibillity of a major improvement. So, while I know a lot about the music, I'm not as good at playing instruments. So, it's definitely not just you.

  • @kozinc i dont think stanley will read the comments on here somehow, but keep on if you want

  • Hey, I don't do it for him, I'm doing it for anyone who might want to imitate him, so the imitation could be an improvement over the original. Besides, if he does read the comments (small chance), he'll know where to improve. ;)

  • yeah lemme break it down all you critics are hating because you cannot play this good if at all so you find some small mistake which IMO atleast proves this man is human...you call yourself a music critic, i call you a hater :) shut up this is DOPE. oh and not tryin to spam but i made a sloppy hip hop beat using samples from eleanor come check it out its called black magick curse. 5*

  • Don't get me wrong - I LIKE this guy. He has flaws, but he's still very good. So let me tell you this: if I didn't like him, I'd have made a list, not a single piece of advice. I hope that clears it up.

  • da chills, i haz dem

  • it's an Ibanez yea ?

  • judging from the headstock, its a dean

  • @iamthewickedchild it's actually a custom Vigier Arpege with a flat fretboard and carbon fiber neck.

  • i effing love this guy

  • bravo my man,,,,hi from Greece.

  • awesome. This guy rocks, blueses, jazzes, reggaeses, beatleses ...xD

  • And to think i still struggle with B unless its a bar chord....

  • lol i only know

    b in bar.. lolz

i been playing for a year

  • @cupraqueen B has to be a bar chord as far as I know... I guess there's that B dom 7 chord that goes X21202, is that the one you're talking about?

  • tu puta madre te ardio el chikillo pendejo se be ke tienes gusto por los prietos jajajaja

a demas ni sabes de guitarristas animal me pelas la verga y tu estas negro pero del ano jajajaja asi komo el de tu puta madre

  • yeah, this shows he's good, but significantly far from the best guitarist ever, even the circle reserved for the hundreds of thousands of 'one of the best guitarists ever's' as named by modern society is far off for this one. Show us a video of him doing a Tommy Emmanuel song and then maybe he'll get there. Otherwise let me get back to my nap.

  • If he did a tommy emmanuel song he would demonstrate substantial skill. But skill is dull. It's the sheer passion and abandon with what he plays and puts into all the notes of this song that makes him a step above.

  • yeah but you cant tell me Emmanuel doesn't put passion into it. It's the combination of passion and skill that makes a good musician or band. His combination is off balance. He doesn't have enough skill to make it to the big time and he's got too much passion to just stop. That's why I say he should do a Tommy Emmanuel song-to capture the feel and technique of it. I personally don't think he could pull it off.

  • Lol dude take it easy.

Stanley have being doing his thing since the early 80s and going strong, and about not making it big, those who like jazz knows about him, and the jazz market isent that big.

And please..dont compare to Tommy Emmanuel, two big diffrent styles, there is no comparing.

In my opinion, i dont care about Tommy Emmanuel and his soft core music.

If you dont agree, then go back to your nap then lol since dude..thats like just YOUR opinion. Not every dies for Tommy Emmanuel

  • you obviously don't know stanley jordan well...

and has this tommy emmanuel ever done letterman?

Jordan has done it MULTIPLE times...

  • 1. its not about the "big time". its about whether or not you can play. robert johnson never made it to the big time and he s considered the godfather of the blues.

    2. the dude can play. this video might not be the best example but i ve seen him throw the fuck down. the dude can play.

    3. he is a very subtly word renowned musician. the people tat know about him know wat he s capable of. he s shared the stage with people like umphreys who in my opinion are among the best musicians out there

  • wow, a harvard music grad - and what sort of credentials make you, limpcracker, qualified to pass that sort of judgement? do you even know what you're looking at!??!?

    no one plays like jordan.

  • Ok, you go nap old man.

  • absolutely MIND BLOWING GREATNESS!!!

  • Good God..He is Good!

  • anyone know the year of this ? early/mid 80's ?

  • I think this one is from 2000 +, maybe 2004? im just adding numbers, but this is a new performance, maybe even later.

  • The hear something amazing, search for "NÁ OZZETTI - "AS ESTAÇÕES" - IVAN VILELA - Viola Caipira em 19-03-2009 (4)."

Eleonor Rigby on 10 string guitar.....

  • I'm not saying this in a racist way at all, but it's weird how you never see any black guitarists but when you do they're FREAKIN' AMAZING.

    Like Jimi Hendrix.

  • Well, i dunno. Listen to more Jazz, Punk and Funk. Lots and lots of black guitarists out there, they just don't do much three chord rock.

  • @ThatLizardGuy, I take it that you' ve never heard of George Benson or Wes Montgomery or B.B. King or Howard Carol or Paul Jackson Jr or Chuck Berry (whom the "Beach Boys" stole from.) or Jonathan Butler or Earl Klugh. Don't get to the other end of that radio dial much do ya huh old chum?

  • Stanley Jordan can be classified as one of the best guitarist ever just by the sheer talent shown in this video. .."

Agreed. But, that doesn't make him God.

    Eric Clapton isn't God either.

  • that touch technique is impossible to get down lol I've given up

  • unclog your ears. listen to the stairway to heaven cover, then you may return and apologize.

  • He's too good to ever have any major success

  • Umm, you're kidding, right? Stanley Jordan is a world-renowned jazz artist, in the same league as John Scofield and Pat Metheny.

  • @Gagagrr whatchu mean? he already is a major success lol

  • @cheebabeater perhaps within jazz.

  • @Gagagrr That make's zero sense! Please explain your theory..

  • @Gagagrr He is still traveling the world and playing and get paid major bucks for doing it. Les Paul gave him MAJOR props! What's your success threshold?

AND WHY AREN'T YOU ON YOUTUBE?!!!

  • ive never even seen anything like this before!

  • I taught myself to play like Stanley just by watching his videos. Only difference is I play acoustic. I've still got a lot of self-discipline to go before I'm on his level, but when I play for people who have never heard of Stanley, they think I'm the best guitar player in the world lol at which point I have to refer them to the master himself. I make really good money playing for tips though. If you have the natural talent, I suggest learning tapstyle because people love it.

  • Comment removed

  • drunken please dont even attempt to compare yourself to stanley jordan, i think ita funny you talk more about yourself here than you pay respect to stanley like you would if you were a legitimate guitarist

  • I'm trying to give advice, telling people I got good at guitar by studying Stanley. I'm not boasting so drop it.

  • my biggest problem with tapping, is it's NEVER loud enough

  • @drumstyx6464 AAAAAMMEN BRO!!!

  • haha awesome

  • he just played with his FUCKING FACE!

  • saw him live once, nothing like watching him play 2 guitars at same time in person. Was nothing short of phenomenal. I'll never understand why undeniable talent like this isn't properly acknowledged and rewarded.

  • This is where the word "gifted" is appropriate. You can't learn to do this. You have to be born with a gift. Thank the stars for gifted folk like Mr. Jordan!
