  • it's scary how the axis had hundreds of pilots that out killed the allies, i mean, number 8 on the allies ace list had like 40 kills, the highest by Ivan Kozhedub was like 60, a good 290 less than the top axis pilot!

  • @MilitaryAircraft101 Yeah it's a huge difference in scores alright. Allied pilots were generally removed from frontline service for a period (especially RAF) once they became aces, so they could teach the younger pilots. Germans stayed in their planes until they were shot down, and they had practiced on many inexperienced opponents (and in the Spanish Civil War) before they had to fight RAF, USAAF, VVS etc, so they had massive kill counts. Finland is one to examine too, very high scores!

  • This aircraft is inaccurate. It is nothing more than a PC rendered model. It has no swastica on the tail. No revisionist crap. Model it the way it was supposed to be. Accurate regardless of who it offends. It's History!! Deal with it you candy asses.

  • What's the brand of this aircraft? Looks good.

I've got the diecast one of this (in 1/72)

  • @Jaliya48 It's made by ICM.

  • nice work!

  • Thanks :)

  • pretty good, but should have put the mottling on the side

  • The best Bar none.. It seems like you still get the odd comment on your modelling vids?? I guess you just have to grin and Bär it.. :) Ich danke sie fur die response.. :)

  • you nead an airbrush

  • der hieß bär...

  • I have a 1:100 metal model of this white 13, same painting. (Osprey publishing)

  • 1:100 - thats got to be tiny.

  • Yes it is, but i am making a huge 1/32 FW-190 A8 red 13, Heinz Bär in JG Oesau :)

  • Nice job. I love those Battle of Britain Bf-109's.

  • Thanks, yeah the colour scheme was a bit more bold than late war 109's.

  • great Emil :) love it

  • Well, suppose its ok, no weathering or wash (unlike yourself). I have largely stopped plastic models and moved on the wooden ones that (hopefully) fly ;) Making a fokker g1 right now.

  • Really nice job! (as with all your "aces-planes"). But you should know that his name was Bär - if necessary, write Baer, but pls not Bar!

  • Thanks, I'm adding the Umlaut right now. I do enjoy German punctuation!

  • Was 'Bar' the same as English 'Bear' (the animal)?

  • Bär = bear

bar = is used when measuring the athmospheric pressure, for example the pressure in my tyres may be 3 bar.

  • Grrr!

  • nice job ..... i'm about to start on Bars fokkewulf Fw190A8

  • Cool. Is it number 13?

  • yes .... number 13 :) .... the kit is by academy in 1 :72 nd scale as soon as i can i will post a vid of my recent projects.

  • I'm quite addicted to academy kits at the moment, I'm doing a P-51 and have 3 kits of the p-39 in my cupboard (for 3 soviet aces).

  • i just finished the b17f (revell 1:72 nd scale) an hour ago :) decided to buy an air brush kit before i buy any more kits .... looking forward to seeing the p-51 :)

  • Well done, will there be a video? I have an airbrush but it's not much use without a compressor (I will be buying at some point). I have painted the inside of the P-51 (had to mix a rough approximation of zinc chromide green!) ;P

  • yes .. video will be forthcoming ..... had to stop work on it just now .... ran out of blue for the underside , and not real sure of some of the colors for the camo ..... instructions say grey and violet grey .. but the box art shows it in light olive green with darker green mottling .. any ideas ?

  • If you google "Urban's Colour Reference Charts

United States" you might get help with general US colour schemes. Perhaps if you look up the specific plane and see if anyone else has made it (and what paint they used). 'FS' Federal standard colours are very handy.

  • "Pritzl" Bar is my favorite ace! He was successful in every theater that he flew in and was second in the rankings against the Americans and the British pilots shot down...behind Hans Joachim Marseille! Great choice and nice job on the plane!!! His Swabian accent drove Goering nuts! Don't ya just love it???

  • Haha thanks, I have no idea what a Swabian accent sounds like?

  • Is this 1:72 scale? Which manufacturer?

  • Yes a 1/72 ICM kit. It's the same mould as the Tamiya 109E. They do E3 and E4 kits.

  • Very nice Me-109 great camouflage, I have Gunther Rall's Autograph he flew a Black black 13, Rall is ranked third on the list of top Luftwaffe aces, with a record of 275 kills in a total of 621 sorties, i've built he's Me-109G2, great work

  • Cheers! Where on earth did you get the autograph? Surely it must be worth a lot. That guy must have downed 1 enemy plane almost every other time he flew! I have a (wonky) revell 109G on the shelf and an (unmade) Italeri 109F which I hope to do in Eric Hartmanns markings (the grand daddy of them all).

Is your 109G in 1:48? Please upload some piccies!

  • Hi SmiertSpionem I wrote to someone who knew him, so I wrote a quick note asking for his Autograph, and to my surprise a few weeks later an envelope came with a Luftpost sticker on it inside was the sighed photo, you could have knocked me down with a feather, as for the model it's in a box somewhere, saying that I might do another one,(do a better job):)

  • Oh I see, well let us know if you're gonna make it anytime soon. Well done getting that autograph.

  • Sorry I was a bit vague their Mate its been some time, having some trouble painting one off my F-105, the paint was just a little bit to think so i was spraying and getting tiny dots, I got in touch with Dave at Antics and he help me out try again :)

  • Did you add enough thinners? Or is that not possible with acrylics? I got a slightly dotty effect on my spitfire, but can be painted over.

  • I got some Tamiya thinners,I should of had a 30/70 mix or round about and the consistancy of milk. I use a 5m syringe to try and get it right

  • Very nice indeed.. Me like!! What's the kit make again..? one of the few I've seen that actually looks like a Me109.. :)

  • Icy M (ICM), and NO fit issues?! I believe it's their own mould with lovely detail (pictures don't do it justice). Most manufacturers do '109E's' but ICM made the effort to do E-3 and E-4! *Gasp*

  • 57 varieties?? Or was that just Heinz 109?

  • I was waiting for a 'Heinz joke'. I bet you've Bean waiting all day to crack that one open - 'Souper'!

I believe it was abbreviation of Heinrich, but it sounds much cooler.

  • It could wel be.. but who ever heard of Heinz Himmler?

  • Or 'Dolph Hitler? Manny Goering? Jo Goebbels? etc

  • Dolph Hitler? Wasn't he the 3rd Reich'est person in Germany, at one point?

  • Yeah although he never got much Fuhrer than that.

  • Nor was he any good at golf.. he always ended up in the bunker!! Will post the Pe-2 info later in the week, so it doesn't get lost.. ;0

  • Danke

  • Bitte!

  • No, I'm a lager man myself but thanks for offering.

  • Very cool plane.

13 is my favorite number, only because I was born on the thirteenth though.

Did you paint this one as well? You do fantastic work.

    Dianne

  • Thanks, I did paint it - was a bit easier to paint than usual. All that was needed was a bit of masking tape to do straight lines. I'm not sure why he picked 13, perhaps to prove it wasn't unlucky?!

    :) Dave
