Its the story-telling aspect, the way the song is a story, you can picture in your mind exactly what she's singing about. This kind of gift - and it is that - is incredibly rare and for someone of 19 to have this ability and to be able to articulate it is once in a generation stuff. I really believe that a lot of people dont realise just how significant a discovery she really is. The last female writer with such natural ability at this age was Kate Bush and that was forty years ago. Amazing...
I am a fan of old school soul and jazz singers. Adele has got a set of pipes like I never heard before. Billie has more pain, Ella has more range, Etta has more desire, but roll them all together and Adele is up there with them all if you view it as a total package. All of the sons from this session are far and away better than just about anything else I have heard in the last 10 years. A few exceptions, but this.is.just.superb.
The thing I've noticed is that she sang in her real accent like this on her first record but she sings in a phony American accent on her second record. I don't mind, just something I noticed

It's so nice to see some talent amongst a sea of computer generated crap that all the kids think is 'music' today.
This girl's got a gift - a really good one. It's exactly the opposite of the popular crap today - it's all go and no show. All bite and no bark. This is attraction and not promotion.
Thank God there's still some talent out there. Now if only 'lady' blabla (and her cult followers) would get hit by a bus my day would be complete :-)

She was only just 19 when she did this and got the slot by sending in a demo tape to the show! Absolutely unbelievable talent. Of course we all know what happened to the follow up album, '21'. Released end of January and already sold 7 MILLION COPIES worldwide! For once, genuine talent = massive success.

PS. Justin CANNOT sing live, and ADELE sings FLAWLESSLY live. If you REALLY have any experience in the music industry, you cannot tell me that it is easy to go live and sing like that! it takes raw talent, which adele HAS.!

That's what that was back then genuine raw talent.You can hear so much potential in those early songs and i think the songs since have shown a good level of evolution and maturity.
If she can keep up the same level of progress i really can see this Woman being mentioned in the same breathe as your Carol Kings,Nina Simones,Janis Joplins etc .
