I'm having problems starting it, I got it for free and its not starting I put gas and oil and cleaned the spark plug and the guy said it worked. so any suggestions?
@midnightwaffels Your engine could have a number of faults, first of all check to see if there's a spark, if not it could be the cut off switch is broken, there isn't enough oil in the engine or the oil sensor has failed, or the ignition / spark plug is faulty. If it sparks, check the carb, make sure it isn't clogged etc, and test with a drop of fuel in the cylinder and see if it fires. Also check the valves and make sure the engine has enough compression. hope that helps :]
Springs will not increase compression but will allow the engine to rev higher, but with increasing the RPM's you run the risk of blowing it up. Check out oldminibikes com there are threads about these issues. Replacing the flywheel and the rod is a must with higher RPM's. Compression can only really be increased by milling the head. Then you run the risk of not being able to pull start your engine. Rod, flywheel, cam, springs, and a carb. True HP running close to 15hp in above
Is this much different than changing the spring(s) in a GY6 150cc scooter engine? Ity has two springs per valve, A smaller one inside a larger one. Do you know anything about a GY6 engine?
Hey I got a problem with my valves I replaced the springs and now the exhaust valve is clicking and only opening a tiny bit then after it clicks it opens all the way?? I put up a video it's called
FYI. I got 5600 out of my son's clone. no gov., K&N ,small track, 12-78 gear (muffler got knocked off half way thru the race) and a 90 jet. digitron showed 210 degrees.
I know that we "should" have better parts in it but that is against the rules, dumb huh.....
I recently upgraded my 6.5 hp clone with a header , new intake, and bigger carb jet. (and also bypassed the governor ) It runs like a champ now. I was wondering If it is necessary to change my valve springs to the 18lb ? What is the specific purpose of changing the valve springs?
When you replace the spings from the stock 12-13 lbs spring to a 18lbs you allow the motor to increase rpms. You will also need about a #92 jet to keep from going lean at the high rpms. And as with any mods you need to have a aftermarket rod and fly wheel for safety. check out oldminibikes on the net
It is not recommended to change the springs unless you have installed a billet aluminum rod and a Billet flywheel. Your engine should not really see more than 4500 rpms with just the governor removed.
man i wish changing briggs animal springs were that easy. i have to rent a spring tool and i have little keepers to keep track of. i do have a clone on my mini bike so this should help thanks for the vid

thank you! very descriptive.

Why did you put 2' of rope in the engine?
giffy5775 11 months ago
@giffy5775 to prevent the piston from moving.

You should not use 18 pound springs without a racing flywheel and billet rod.
Accidents with ungoverned engines are messy.

is really worth all the trouble if i just ride mine around the yard? I took my governor off.
